That it shouldn't be? Well dear, neither you or I control that. You can play moral police all you want but won't stop the fact that Stockholm syndrome (not a cliche but an actually deeply impactful condition) exists and there are several survivors living with it.

If you're going to stand on a soap box about calling out misogyny, at the very least know what it means. Would you use that same phrase if it was the woman who held the man hostage because of obsessive/possessive feelings? Or a same gender situation?
Subverting anyone's free will for selfish emotion is an issue, regardless of gender.
The battles women fight because of gender inequality are many and serious, we don't need people who don't understand nuance to step in with a mic, like they're knowledgeable enough to speak for everyone.

Stockholm syndrome exists unfortunately, I didn't define it or create it. It's the complexity of human minds and emotions at work. I stated facts, and didn't even share my opinion about the relationship. Just that I'm impressed PoJ represented some of that.

If the discourse is beyond you, don't waste your time responding, just scroll past, it means you aren't the audience. Responding in Caps to a point that wasn't even in the original post makes no sense. I didn't conclude if anyone is or isn't a scumbag. I didn't encourage or speak against the toxic relationship.

fictional dark romances, ignore the "weirdo" name-calling from @kbeauty's overreaction. I may not be a fan of that sub-genre, but I strongly believe in "to each their own" and don't agree with attacking people because I don't share their entertainment preferences. Stay safe & healthy 😌

So much dialogue about whether to romanticize a toxic situation or not, but honestly, they depicted a harsh reality…
Sometimes victims catch feelings for their villains, even when they mentally know better and actively try to run from the situation. The moment an effort was made to see past the cruelty to the cause… they’re starting to see a person, not just a monster.
And there lies the tangled web of human emotion, where love and hate can be different sides of the same coin.

PoJ really is a romance feast - depicting so many emotions associated with love - crushing, yearning, obsessing, then there’s unrequited, and reciprocated ( intentionally or reluctantly)… I can’t think of a single show that has fit in all these subgroups of the romance genre and still told an interesting story.. I’m days past finishing it and still enthralled. A rare joy.

It's exactly that, dreamlike... She took the time to bury a lot of them, and she fought to avenge them. Their souls are welcoming her back home.

Outside storyland, this is an extreme trauma response- the mind can fill gaps to make reality more bearable.

The princess royale's final arc - The princess and strategist had already agreed to marry between themselves, they just needed everyone else's buy-in.
By being the only one willing to save her, and doing it publicly in that manner, her mom was bought in.
Her Emperor brother becomes irrelevant so his buy in isn't needed.
Her prior engagement ends with the Li family's treason.
Then the strategist was left alone with the princess in her room while in the palace, somewhat undressed (fewer layers since she's in bed recovering), and he's declaring everyone else was dismissed, he'll care for her himself going forward.... this is an impossible breech of propriety without the critical life saving element of the fire/cpr scenario. It would only happen if he had been accepted by the royals as her future prince consort.

Someone else recommended it too... Is it a HE or a forever yearning story?
