I missed how/why they fell in love… when did the emotions build to the point of love? Especially for Punn… 2 ramen meals, roses, a painting restoration and drawing later and he’s ready to risk it all cuz the vamp’s ignorance is kinda cute? I get holding off on killing him since he’s anti killing humans, even liking and being attracted thanks to all the X dreams…but love seems like a huge stretch…
Because withholding love from your child to raise them to be emotionally stunted is such a noble trait (not).…
Agreed, no excuse. Probably reasons for it that make sense to him and maybe even others, but whatever they are, it doesn’t erase the valid pain of the FL’s experience, so they better not all of a sudden sell it as a kumbaya moment. My happy ending is with the couple and they achieve some personal goals along the way of their fairytale romance, we don’t need microwave family healing in the few episodes left as well.
I know they'll show HuiJu's father caring for her in hidden ways from the beginning. Even though I hate it but…
Probably, because he actually has, to an extent…but even if they do, nothing can take away from the fact that he isn’t a loving dad, and she’s barely a filial child,
I’d be annoyed by a redemption arch that all of a sudden makes them close. Keep it an unfortunate consequence of misunderstandings and clashing personalities. He continues to do his version of caring/protecting, she continues to do her version of respecting. Both barely checking the box, and no real emotional ties. Let it end with her creating the loving family she would have wanted.
She’s built him up to be an uncaring monster in her mind, making her earn things her brother gets handed to…
I think you missed the part where I acknowledged her pain is valid and he isn’t a great father, but if you disagree that he isn’t the worst father either, then I envy you your limited exposure to truly terrible sperm donors.
At no point during the show has the father been depicted as a character that wants to be fair… not sure why you would have that expectation. Some may question if it’s fair she has to earn/ask, others will question if it’s fair that she gets what she asked for and even more (e.g. 20% more shares). His wife would have played a role in getting him and the company to succeed while she lived, if she divorced him, she would have taken a large percentage on her way out which would have gone to her son alone. Now there’s another heir in play that came out of left field…rough math, even if he was going to split his interests equally between his kids, she should only be eligible to 25% of it, the son getting his mother’ 50% and 25% from his father. Is all this considered in your evaluation of fairness?
Regardless, real world, no parent treats all their kids equally, even when born of the same parents. That’s just facts, and expecting otherwise is a setup for disappointment, resentment, bitterness, you name it. I think that’s the real life danger that’s often glossed over - when entitlement is forced to face reality and can’t cope. Sure, idealism can build a new world one day, but expecting ideal today is a recipe for heartbreak. The rise of a generation that lacks resilience is a more pressing danger.
Also, no parent is actually obligated to equal treatment. Child protective services isn’t getting involved for preferential treatment that is not life threatening. In fact, if there’s a special needs or health issue with one of the kids that requires preferential treatment in the home but the parents aren’t providing it, that’s when they’re more likely to get in trouble.
All that said, still think her pain is valid and did not say daddy is right, just that she has immediate perspective right beside her that he could be worse, so getting all worked up about him in adulthood… waste of her energy.
Maybe the spoiler tag should be checked by default? There should be a large red BEWARE warning atop the comments…
Of course they can engage, spoiler tag doesn’t stop engagement, it just adds a layer of protection for people who haven’t seen the show yet and don’t want too much details on it. I’ve been engaging while watching, the added step of tagging something as a spoiler hasn’t stopped me…
The PM (SML) couldn’t pursue FL before because his career aspirations wouldn’t allow for that union… politicians…
😂 valid reason to root for him. At some point I wondered if QM may have caught feelings for the ML along the way, or if it’s just pure envy that he’s more equipped to rule than her husband… and so part of her behavior isn’t just fear of losing power, but also resentment that the cards she was dealt didn’t include the ML….
I’m just going to say it….her dad could be SO MUCH WORSE. He’s not great, absolutely, and her pain is valid,…
She’s built him up to be an uncaring monster in her mind, making her earn things her brother gets handed to him, which ok is “her truth” but let’s be objective here….
There are many illegitimate children that would never even see the inside of the conglomerate, talk less of being able to run a subsidiary, regardless of how great they are. There is always the option of hiring outside management that are equally great or even more so, and would actually feel beholden to you for giving them the opportunity, versus an entitled and ungrateful child.
Everything he gave in to along the way, from bike to building to shares, is evidence of at least some form of sentiment. He is never obligated to give her the same or even more than her brother. He legit could have Nannies raise her in a different household and have her school elsewhere… all of these privileges exist because he decided to not be a complete and utter a-hole, despite how “greedy” she came across. He could have denied any access to the privilege that comes with the family name, made her pursue success truly independently, and still staged a hostile takeover of whatever she was able to build without the family might backing her. That’s what a powerful businessman that truly holds her responsible for messing with his life would do,
He’s clearly more than acknowledged his part in her existence, but her bravado and his guilt have impaired real affection. Besides, not like we’ve seen him all that affectionate with his son either…
So yea, he’s not great, but he’s not the worst either. She at least could show her potential and build a fighting spirit. ML’s father on the other had, consistently crushing and diminishing him, even physically abusive (can’t use your words to tell him to take off the robe?!) A real piece of work that one.
The PM (SML) couldn’t pursue FL before because his career aspirations wouldn’t allow for that union… politicians…
Exactly! And she even made it clear to the PM when he offered himself instead….the prince will always be the prince, the PM is an appointed role that’s more vulnerable.
The PM (SML) couldn’t pursue FL before because his career aspirations wouldn’t allow for that union… politicians…
Exactly re: FL and Queen Mother, they are similar but only in the two ways you mentioned - ambition & pride. When it comes to grit, they are miles apart - that’s what I meant by QM clearly hasn’t faced adversity & is sloppy. She’s always had it thanks to her family positioning. Meanwhile FL keeps having to earn everything from her privileged family, so she’s built different. Agree with you on this.
I’ll be surprised if the PM doesn’t F it up…as the Queen mother pointed out, so much restraint being thwarted unexpectedly can lead to explosions… would be sad to see his villain arch, but won’t be surprised. It takes having a dark side to reach that political high. If he's actually able to just wish her well and be helpful, that’s what would surprise me more… I would still love it though, I don’t mind unrealistic fluff at all 😁
I think we started seeing FL accept that she can be genuinely liked towards the end of ep8, and she’s also been willing to partner with ML without trying to control everything up to this point, I hope he can do the same (he’s more of the risk when it comes to acting on his own e.g. the breakup). If they work together effectively, I think their combined strength outweighs any concept of weakness, rather it would be attempts to rely on themselves without bringing their partner along that would be the weakness to me.
My question is this - how could they get into his safe to find the contract even if there was an investigation…
I don’t think it’s the safe copy, and tbh the headline doesn’t actually need the contract as evidence, if it’s a tabloid “inside source” is enough. If anything I was irritated when the contract was just casually on his end table before he put it in the safe… in a home where you know there’s a planted spy? who put it there and why? Too many people know about this thing at this point so it’s no surprise that it leaks.
There’s more nuance in this show than the audience is giving it credit for…
The PM (SML) couldn’t pursue FL before because his career aspirations wouldn’t allow for that union… politicians go for nobles, not commoners, and definitely not one with “illegitimate child” branding. I think he was waiting patiently to serve his term, then become a background “kingmaker” (not literal, in this case a political power juggernaut), at which point being with her would be another power play, combining his influence with funds and commercial relevance, therefore also keeping him influential. Till then, he remains the oppa bestie she can rely on, thereby he has his cake and eats it. The emotional crisis of her being with a formidable match versus her trophies was the first time he had to consider sacrificing his own aspirations for romance.
The directors did a fantastic job a few episodes ago when they showed FL’s perspective of encounters with her father, after showing his POV. She continued to seek affection and validation, but in the most demanding way possible, and didn’t have the maturity to understand her father was struggling with the consequences of his mistake… since she did not appear pitiful because she offsets her insecurity with bravado, he was able to mitigate some of his guilt towards her and focus his energies on the son who unexpectedly lost his mother and sole heir status due to his father’s foolishness. Honestly it’s rough to watch their relationship when you really consider both perspectives and how they may have misunderstood each other over the years.
Queen Mother coming from a family that breeds queens… clearly it’s a matriarchal setup and too much power has gotten to her head, which allows for sloppiness. Because ML hasn’t utilized his power as regent doesn’t mean he won’t… why provoke what you aren’t ready to face? She’s too comfortable, clearly hasn’t dealt with real adversity before. Silly girl.
The rest of the story lines are cute, and all of it is enjoyable 😁
Now I regret not watching this years ago while it was airing, it’s fabulous. Also would have been better in small doses, episodes are too long to binge
