Loving the pacing, everything so far but I still miss TharnType. Yes, it was bonkers and had its glaring flaws but it gave us a character who was the bottom *and* the brawn of the operation, and he basically flouted all the ‘wife’ clichés. Type is still an outlier in Thai BL.
Episode 11 so good (tension, pace, a sense of purpose) I ignored the plot holes and almost forgot they’d tried to sell a second BL couple around episode 9 only to realize it was too late and say ‘nah let’s just leave it there’.
Considering the eight episodes that came before, it’s high-stakes gambling having another chapter after this one. Episode 11 would be quite the finale—they remembered their plot and it was everything the series promised to be and failed to fulfil—and I’m not sure they’ve got the chops to top that.
The cute ending of this episode reminded me of a guy who tried to defend the finale of 2gether The Series on YouTube: “Why should they kiss? Their love is PURE!!!!” I guess they’d have a stroke if they saw The Eclipse episode 7.
(Spoiler alert) Major plot development in episode 10: we’ve got Nivea product placement instead of KFC.
PS: I’ll defend Sea from the Ohm/Nanon fan club anytime. He managed to deliver the line “Thank you for cleaning my face and cleaning off my dusty heart” with a straight face. Not many seasoned pros can do that with such dignity.
PS2: OMG, the showrunners remembered the plot of their show!
Episode 7 - First scene: late night. (Yi kisses Plaengrak's cheek goodnight and goes home by himself because there's no healthy sex life in this corner of the BL universe.) (P's ex-boyfriend, the one with cheap soap bitch vibes, the one Y learned everything about some 2 episodes before, storms past Y out of nowhere and tries to kiss P. P clearly rebuffs him and runs to Y.) P: It's not what you think. I'm telling the truth! Y (crying, drooling, and risking serious Botox intervention in the near future): Even if nothing can happen between us, I'm fine with it. (P cries, drools, and risks serious Botox intervention in the near future as Y walks away from him.)
Me (after watching the scene twice to check if I got it right): Drugs.
Kudos to the director and writers of this. It’s not perfect but then what is? It’s certainly engaging, they believe in their premise, you have a sense of character and narrative development, and you can see there’s care and heart involved. The actors got a chance to try different acting muscles, and even the tiniest character is interesting. By episode 5, I was already rolling my eyes at Vice Versa. Here? I want to see what happens next.
(Speaking of slow motion, the curse subplot… sigh…)
Guy 2 (BL series): gives Guy 1 a sponge bath
Guy 2 (real life): brings condoms
