Fair enough. Your points are all valid. Not every show will work for everyone.
Maybe it’s because I’m influenced by the book, but one of the things I like about Jiman is that she may love NYX but she won’t lose herself to him, and she won’t let him affect her ultimate survival. Whether that’s wanting a divorce because NYX isn’t good to her at the beginning or going no contact because she can’t trust she won’t be discovered - I think they’re logical choices. Especially considering she had just fallen off a cliff and ran for days only to see his cart pulling away. That scene felt like a bit of a wake-up call for her. He has to go be the prime minister. Lord knows I don’t believe in “hurting you to protect you” but considered NYX already put Ji Man’s life in danger by a moment of incaution by speaking about NSY’s true end in a place where he could be overheard, I don’t blame the precaution Jiman took. If she contacted him there would be a chance something similar could happen and while NYX might be sad, she might be dead.
^^^ Anyway tastes are different. Hope you find a show you can fully enjoy. ☺️
i dropped it at like eps 16 ish, as a novel reader i didnt like how they completely changed the focus of the drama

I’m okay with the drama but I’m really sad that the show didn’t: 1) Keep Jiman’s scheming and cleverness 2) Her aloofness to NYX for as long as it ran in the book 3) All the different ways she earned the 💰 (People keep complaining about the business parts of the show but book Jiman was really on her grind the whole time. And I love to see FL pursue a career😂)

The emperor basically threatened Jiman😅. He could have had her killed for lying but was lenient in telling her to scram. And she does try to make contact but is too late and realises it was probably a dumb idea anyway. The only way they could be together is if NYX is able to be an effective prime minister and Ji Man fixes her reputation. Once this is realised, their marriage is granted and basically blessed by the emperor. This is much better than being pariahs in love and fits the main themes of the drama, which is “no one can and should be everything to a person” and “love alone/obsessive love can’t sustain a person”.

For how loved Xiao Feng is by the audience, many feel this was the best ending for her. The Xiao Feng at the beginning and the Xiao Feng at the end are two different people to the point it’s depressing. While watching I could almost feel how tired she was. Especially when she looks up at the sky and sighs before going to the battlefield. I’ve always felt she didn’t want to but there was really no choice. This drama was very thorough in cutting off all avenues for Xiao Feng so there was no way out for her. In all honestly the show has to be praised for that. It is really hard to make this type of ending actually feel appropriate. The extra episodes were kinda like an extra benefit due to the popularity of the show. They don’t have any real meaning and are mostly filled with memes or inside jokes for book and drama fans.
