Others are saying July unless that means her part has wrapped up earlier.
Maybe things have updated or his schedule is different. It would be good if it wraps soon so Xiao Ran can make it for training in the next drama (if training still happening)

Yes, this could be true especially since the screenwriter is the novelist.

I don’t really like 3D animation but I have watched some clips to get to know the characters. If I have time I might read the novel. I heard it’s different from the anime.

Showrunners have decided the ranking based on various different factors. For everything else let’s wait to see what airs.

This is usually the case in idol dramas but not always the case in non-idol dramas. In fact, I’ve seen second billing be a rival or relative for some CCTV dramas.
For this show, MYM is second billing due to rank. BBH should be the official match and love interest for the ML. MYM has their own canon love interest as well.
This casting list isn’t ranked completely accurately. I had to request an edit because it originally had MYM’s actress as a guest role. BBH’s actress is a newcomer who starred in Sword and Fairy 1 this year and is either 4th or 5th ranked according to the official announcement. The rankings are based on strength from metrics of past dramas, popularity, and essentially who showrunners believe will bring investment and viewers to the show.

I like Peng Xiao Ran too and wished she paired with Gong Jun but regretted that her character doesn’t.
I’ve watched clips of MYM and seen what might be a leaked promo photo for Xiao Ran (which means it’ll probably change) but if they keep her looks as innocent yet attractive as I saw, with her acting ability, her MYM will hopefully be very interesting role.

No it’s been very quiet on the news front. Still no confirmation or valid rumours on the rest of the cast.
This is not a romantic drama where the official couple matters first. It is a martial arts drama so who is the romance as well as romantic pairings holds even less weight. She has been ranked as the leading actress. Ranking often has to do with the artist’s own strength and/or backing. If the showrunners say she is the leading actress, then she is the leading actress. This is done all the time in the serious drama world, why is this instance somehow different from industry standards?
Honestly the level of bullying and questioning over accepting this show she is getting on Weibo is making me feel really bad for her. She just wanted to grant fans’ wishes, and found a role to do so. Why is such a touching thing meeting so much malice?

I hope this role is a success for her. It’s really quite touching. Fans asked her to play an assassin character…
How can she be past her prime with her results though? And where hasn’t she done well? She literally holds the record for CVB scores within the 90s actresses. She is the youngest actress to break 2 and is #2 overall after the refresh. Huamei is the only low budget drama to break the 100 million views in a day mark. Huamei has been on so many channels I’ve lost count and had commercials added to its CCTV8 because it aired so well. Even its 2nd round was breaking 1. CCTV certified Huamei as a hit drama and she did this as first billing with a drama that literally got a trailer a few weeks before airing. Can you understand how awesome that is?

RoaTF has been certified as a money maker, coming in #2 for the company. Jun Jiu Ling when it aired on TV for the first time took the championship for the channel.

And this year Youku put her as one of the only 90s actresses on the ads for their pension drama series. Honestly, her grades have been so good where it actually counts (making money) it really grieves me when she gets written off.

The whole point of cameos is to protect her ranking and not just anyone can get them (or at least it used to be this way). Being given cameo status is a recognition of the artist’s own strength otherwise they will be listed as support roles. Big established names do this all the time to explore the craft. Are they suddenly past their prime. If this was said to their fanbase, I’m sure they’d be offended. Successful cameos also have the added benefit of helping to break stereotypes about an actor which opens up new doors. This is sorely needed for a star with no background and an excellent way to show strength in an industry where actors are heavily typecasted. She can’t just keep spinning around in idols. All the other actresses in the cohort above her who took this path are struggling while the ones who took on support roles are doing much better, with a brighter future as they transition into more mature roles.

And she has a lead role this year. It’s Phoenix Stage, which is either an S or S+ drama so it’s not like she can’t get lead roles. She’s only aired around 5 dramas in her whole career. There are actors who have aired around that number in just this year. Without a backer, she has to rely on strength and it’s only just now that enough of her grades have come in. And who is to say she isn’t just being selective about scripts rather than she can’t get roles?

She herself has mentioned getting scripts but the subject matter doesn’t interest her and she has said since Jun Jiu Ling that it’s not about popularity but about the craft. Her idol dramas post GBMP were all without strong backing, and were probably an attempt to stay in the market more than anything else. Now that she has results, she’s probably just more picky about what she takes on. And in the case of her previous dramas, sometimes a cameo in a big expensive drama is worth more for exposure than an entire lead role in a lower cost drama.

Anyway, the future is bright and I’ll watch Xiao Ran’s whether she is a top star or a has been - all of her performances are worth it.

That’s why I really dislike some commenters who look down on her for taking cameos or playing “support roles”. A lot of the roles fans have asked her to play aren’t roles that are often played by leads. But she’s found a way to get a breadth of roles, which is to be admired. Actors should try as much as they can to develop.

She plays Mu Yumo, an assassin who specialises in poisonous insects. She’s the lead female role by rank but…
It’s not unheard of in , but I think it’s rarer in the more love focused idol dramas. It just means that her ranking in the industry makes her the leading female actress in the show. In non-idol dramas, sometimes the second lead is not a love interest at all but a rival or relative etc.

They should still have a few rival scenes together even if they’re not romantic.

It seems MYM’s match has been announced but not officially by the drama.

Yes, I’m really interested in this role and her interpretation. I know she did boxing or kickboxing in the past, and last year she worked on a movie with Jackie Chan, who must be a wealth of knowledge. Phoenix Stage also has martial arts and I’ve heard Yin Tao does interesting wire work. She’s in good condition right now and I heard the hairstyling and makeup crew are good for this show too.

There's one thing though: I don't expect spectacular fem chara writing from male creators but the author said…
Fingers crossed but I feel a bit confident it will do a decent job because Xiao Ran has signed up. She’s been adamant about choosing interesting and strong willed characters and has really been leaning towards roles that focus more on career than love.

Her last drama didn’t even have an official romantic line, hug, or kiss scene. In a really refreshing reversal of roles, she’s this really bad*ss policewoman who protects the male lead from danger. It ended up taking one of the top spots for CCTV8 shows last year and her ratings currently hold the top spot for actresses born in the 90s.

Wow Gong Jun in a Wuxia. Cannot wait!!😍😍.The donghua was awesome. Finally, Peng Xiao Ran in a costume drama.
She’s almost done filming Phoenix Stage as the female lead (and looks gorgeous). She’s also a cameo in Chang Le Qu, The Big Dream Returns, and Fox Demon Matchmaker:Bamboo Chapter.

Luckily it’s been corrected. I still can’t believe what happened today on Weibo and that the announcement took so long. It was the first time I thought I wouldn’t promote a show because I was so angry.

Don’t know the ending for the drama but there’s no real love triangle. Shouldn’t be one in the drama either.…
It’s hard to come out of it unscathed🙂‍↕️Usually people watch her other dramas to recover. Jun Jiu Ling has a healthy supportive couple and RoaTF is quite funny and light hearted.
