There’s been a lot of discussion in China as to why this show did so well with so little marketing and I’ve always found it surprising that no one has brought up the novelty of having a female lead as the spy chaser. Especially one like PHM who is capable, non objectified, yet not so masculine coded, and doesn’t need rescuing by the end. It’s really rare. Add to that cast of various different professional women who also have their own strengths and/or personalities and a fast paced and suspenseful plot and I think you get a really interesting combination.
As to the barrel question. I think it’s a scriptwriters problem. They can create interesting characters but don’t seem so great on the logic behind chasing spies. 😅

The stills are quite nice so I think it will be okay. Yuehong looks okay if not a bit hazy. The key is whether the director knows how to work with SFx and how to direct actors within the green screen. Luckily GJM has a lot of experience in this. Take a look at his Ying Yang Master. It has a lot of SFX and looks okay.

I’ve never heard of VST (I don’t follow film tech very much. Just the art of it) so I can’t tell you about it but they most definitely are using real people so there’s no need to worry about motion capture.
Seems she had difficulty find a drama to play. Recently she either play guest role or not important side characters.
Um, She is currently shooting a S (it may be S+ but I can’t remember…) level drama with Ren Jialun.😅She took on the Chang le Qu role on the side while shooting Phoenix Stage😂 As a drama fan, I’m glad to see her filling in the gaps with cameos. There’s more to see.

Hats off to the makeup artist and hairstylists for this show. 🙌 That her team is willing to share the look every day says something. There haven’t been many styles but the consistency of the looks has been really high. I think consistency is often one of the weak points of Cdramas, so I’m really glad to see looks with consistent quality that also look good in both close-ups and distance shots. Also looks like the crew might be filming certain chunks of the plot during the same period. This should mean less shots with suddenly changing looks during the drama. 🙏 So happy.😭Xiao Ran deserves decent makeup.
