The whole tone shift was just too weird for me. Sis has been working with GJM for so long he could give her some better roles.

It’s okay. I figured it was a mistake. Also, I think JJY is doing a great job. LWY will definitely be one of her life roles.

I think you’re confused. I’m not talking about Lu Wuyi at all. I’m talking about Jolin Jing’s cameo. She plays Mu Long and Su Jian. I’m not criticising the actress either. I’m criticising GJM for the character design and the awkward writing of the character. She can actually act quite seriously so I don’t understand why GJM always gives her comedic roles.

Whew lawd! What on Earth happened to the pacing in episode 20😫!? And the tone shifts…they were so sudden, they nearly gave me whiplash😣
And GJM really needs to stay away from anime style humor. It’s not something that can be replicated in live action very well without being awkward. Feel sorry for Jin Jing. Sis really tried her best but the character design isn’t suitable and seems hard to act naturally.

what’s the correct billing?
1. Gong Jun - Su Muyu
2. Peng Xiao Ran - Mu Yumo
3. Qiao Zhenyu - Su Zhe
4. Chang Huasen - Su Changhe
5. Yang Yutong - Bai Hehuai
6. Kong Xue’er - Mu Xuewei
7. Zhang Shi’an - Tang Lianyue
8. Geng Le - The Patriarch

This is the correct billing according to the app and the official announcements. It actually includes more people on the app but I can’t remember them at the moment.

Story wise, she seems to function as a vehicle to showcase Ji Ling’s charm so I don’t expect development which…
No, there’s nothing wrong with it. It‘s just what I feel GJM is doing but it’s not a bad thing. When you create a character, you’re supposed to create them to serve a purpose. Sometimes it’s for the plot and sometimes it’s to offset other characters etc. And, when you hit a certain level of storytellling ability, you know what to do to get the audience to react a certain way. Why do you think GJM places a lot of importance on soundtracks? Because he understands music is a really powerful way to guide the audience’s emotions. People complain about his over usage of music but after a while it creates almost a Pavlovian response. When they hear the chanting, the audience feels a flare of excitement or anticipation because they know a fight is coming or something cool is going to happen, etc.
And I do think Ji Ling is the main protagonist even though it’s supposed to be a four person storyline but I don’t have a problem with it personally. You can tell which character GJM likes in his works. He can’t hide it at all😅 I don’t think I’ve seen such an excellent character design in such a long time. From a technical standpoint though, I feel like it does unbalance the story because it feels like the other three characters seem to be playing support for his plot line when it should feel like an ensemble as it was sold. It seems other people feel this way too but perhaps don’t know how to articulate it and focus on things like screen time. In fact, screen time doesn’t matter as much as how the story is told. That said, ensemble stories are quite hard to tell. It’s why a lot of advice to storytelling beginners is to decide the protagonist from the outset. I feel that GJM has gotten better since FoF, but he still has work to do.

No, what I said before still stands. To me, LWY’s purpose is to get the audience to like JL. Female audiences will like his devotion to LWY and though he has scenes outside of the love story, they will be charmed by the boyish nature and vulnerability he mostly only shows to LWY. This doesn’t mean that JL isn’t likeable on his own. It’s like adding an extra layer of
Sparkle to him. Especially since GJM seems to be pushing the character towards the popular character trope of “Beautiful, strong, and miserable”.

For me it wouldn’t be. LWY is a very charming character from the start (without JL) and if anyone sets off her innocent nature, it’s WWY. To me, how LWY works is the audience falls in love with her and then falls in love with JL through her.

Curious about people's feelings about the LWY character not having development.I just want to know what you would…
Story wise, she seems to function as a vehicle to showcase Ji Ling’s charm so I don’t expect development which is fine for me. Some characters don’t really “develop”, they transform. There are some bits of growth with LWY questioning things instead of following no matter what but LWY’s character seems like the type to transform, meaning she should change. Transformation can include growth but it doesn’t have to. It’s more about showing how the events or environment have changed a character. Her state towards the end should be very different from the LWY seen at the beginning of the show.

Very likely not. Whenever they cast some big-head actor in a drama that is based on a female-centric novel, the…
I hope it stays female centric. I’ve never understood why productions keep changing female centric works into males ones. They very rarely do well because they usually weaken or surpress the FL making it hard to watch. It seems better to just use a male centric IP or create an original work.

Seems like casting changes every week 😂 I’m curious about whether this IP will remain female centric like the original work.

How is the most inferior (normal fox) among the casts of Dragon x 2 nine tailed fox somehow presented as the leader…
Narratively, Ji Ling leads because he has the greatest understanding of the overall situation. The others don’t know anything or have only pieces of the puzzle. I think he is also the oldest among them so has the most experience and knowledge, which is key in such a dangerous situation. Lastly, if I’m not mistaken, it seems he’s been left as a sort of custodian for the 10th dragon’s ascension and leading things until the final conclusion would be part of that process.
As for GJM’s future casting options, it’s better to let GJM worry about it😂 He did work with some big names like Yang Mi and Fan Bingbing in the past but his current casting pattern tends to lean towards rising stars or new talent mixed with a few acquaintances. And after airing 3 TV series , I think anyone wanting to work with him will have a clear understanding of what he is like as a TV director.

I didn’t realise how much I missed the sisters interacting until episode 18. They’re my favourite characters and I love their dynamic. Romantic love is almost always portrayed in most shows as the most important type of love in a woman’s life so I ’m always a fan of narratives that show platonic love or familial love as being just as important.

.... I have to complain I was looking forward to this but director sirrr wth is going on with u? The first episodes…
Visuals are what he’s known for and it seems he leaning into it and wants to go the “auteur” route and create idiosyncratic works with a distinctive style. Part of this is his extensive use of certain shots, filters, and techniques. Is he overdoing it? Perhaps, but it’s his calling card and the most important thing in entertainment is the ability to stand out. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it brings discussion and with millions of fans of his own, he has a dedicated fanbase and it’s a base bigger than some of the stars he features. Personally I can’t appreciate the amount of glamour either but they serve a double purpose as they are easily cut into edits, shorts, and highlight reels-which serve as a form of advertising.
Pacing has always been an issue for him but I think he did improve with VoS. His shows always start off slow to build the world and introduce the main characters and their dynamics but I think he has a better grasp of explaining the worldview while moving the story along in VoS.

Just noticed that the cast order has changed
A few people have tried to get it fixed and arranged according to the official order but they have been rejected. The response I got was that MDL doesn’t use billing order.

I really liked Double Wu’s storyline during the Star Stone arc and enjoyed its subdued approach. After hours of grand OSTs and flashy effects, the most touching moment for me so far was those two lovers pressing their foreheads together. Romance really is in the details.

I come back and the billing orders have been changed. Can we please respect the billing orders from official channel?
This! The official billing order on the official channels comes from the show itself. If the show wanted a different order, they would have made it that order.
