I agree about the sound, i watched and loved fangs of fortune and personally felt like the background music/sound…
There seems to be a lot more sound effects/ quicker changes in music in this show than in FoF. I also feel like the timing of the sound effects might be slightly off too. It’s a bit awkward because it’s obviously been designed to increase the emotional intensity of a scene and sound design should increase the immersive experience of a show but if it’s too noticeable or heavy-handed then it sometimes has the opposite effect.
I think it the director style.... it so much like FoF in that senseI dont mind it at all, but yeah I can see why…
I can see why his fanbase likes it. It’s kinda like a personal signature which makes him stand out. I don’t feel it was as strong in his previous ones but maybe I didn’t watch enough or pay enough attention. But yeah, once I started noticing it, it was hard to ignore.
Gave this a curiosity watch partially because of the mixed reviews I saw on Weibo and partially because I wanted to see if there were elements of Painted Skin in it and I think it’s okay so far. The FL(s) doesn’t seem to be sidelined like in FoF and GJM’s skill for world building is still peak. I just don’t get why the filming is so deliberate and the sound design is so overbearing-at times it’s oddly pretentious. I feel like it messes with the performances and makes them feel less natural. It affects immersion too. There’s obviously a rich world being built but it’s hard to get immersed in it because of these two elements.
The billing order is all messed up. How did it get approved?
Apparently MDL doesn’t follow billing order which is news to me as it is a generally accepted industry standard 😅 It’s strange to want to be out of sync with the official channels.
So glad to see Mimi in another costume drama, and a historical drama no less! I’ve been following this show for a while, since it was rumoured to belong to Nini and Youku, so I’m happy to see it finally come into fruition too! Wishing the show a successful booting, and safe and smooth filming.
It’s so rare to get historical dramas centred around female figures so I’m really looking forward to this. I really hope this drama portrays Empress Feng with respect and gives her story the care and attention it deserves.
I think it might be the wrong link. It links to a New Year’s Eve post from Dilireba’s studio 😅. This was Harper’s Bazaar link I found; https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5278548988530016
The slow pace took some getting used to for me too but I think the show had some interesting ideas and was good looking. It has a slower pace than some shows due to set up and dialogue but it has a very good sense of world-building and character connection as a result.
No manipulation. Every drama has its own life. It’s good the other drama has 500,000 reservations. Hopefully,…
Those kind of rumors happen all the time. It even happened with Love and Crown. There were a few occasions where marketing accounts said it wouldn’t air. Huamei had 0 promotion other than a poster and I mean 0. I thought RoaTF had little promotion but Huamei has to be one of the least promoted shows that I’ve ever seen. I think in the end it only had 2 posters total. It didn’t even have a wrap-up special. And also even if the platform isn’t optimistic that isn’t the end. Sometimes the shows the platforms are optimistic about are not always the shows that do well. And vice versa.
