Tbh GJM should've just said they are 2nd billing cuz TJR and JJY def are like the main main characters in the…
They probably wouldn’t have accepted 2nd billing. Especially as 2nd billing for TJR as he’s never played a lead role before and they both have. Billing is really important. That’s why there is so much discussion around it. It can even involve negotiations and some actors will decline a project based on billing.

Title Bai Yao Pu
After watching VoS and reading a rumoured premise for this show the hope I had for it to stay a female centric work is growing dimmer.

Did you see ad statistics? How it was going in commercial value?
Haven’t seen any stats lately but it can’t be bad.

As in how many ads per episode?

He didn’t need one though. It wouldn’t have made sense for his character setting and storyline.
Yeah, it would have probably have the same problem as the LuWu sisterhood storyline that now feels incomplete and is getting scolded on Weibo.

All all the main lead are strong but mostly Ji ling
I feel like you can’t really blame the audience. GJM started his career as a writer for young adults so he knows exactly what will draw them in. The JiLu storyline was designed for them. It has all the elements of a popular YA fiction and the way their storyline was presented lends itself very easily to media like Tiktok, which has a younger audience too. Idol dramas essentially have the same audience base as young adults so that’s GJMs target.
I think Double Wu was for the audience that wouldn’t usually watch his shows. They were shot completely differently and once the narrative decided their purpose had been served, the presence and quality of storytelling for their storyline dropped. It’s just that ZSX and CDL gave a really strong performance and had good chemistry so audiences while they may not be able to articulate the problem, feel the imbalance.

Who is the strongest character in this drama?
It’s kind of hard to tell because everyone’s power level seems to fluctuate but they’re all pretty powerful. On actual powers, I believe it should be Wu Shiguang according to the lore. And unless I missed something, Lu Wuyi should be very powerful too since she managed to suppress everyone. Ji Ling is also powerful but his powers seem to come from others. On his own, I’m not sure how powerful he is.

Just finished. This was the first GJM drama I ever managed to finish and there’s so much I want to say but won’t lest I get called a hater😂
It is terrifyingly ironic though that one of the main themes of this drama was to let go of one’s obsessions but GJM couldn’t 🙂‍↕️ Anyway CDL and ZSX don’t get tricked again. 😂 Double Wu forever😭And Lu Wuyi and Wu Wangyan, may y’all live wonderfully sisterly lives where you don’t have to be put through a meat grinder to be coenzymes for men(Lu Wuyi you especially🥹)✌️

I understand. I like her acting too but she doesn’t have very many dramas sadly🥲 Hopefully she’ll find a script she likes and will join a good crew this year.

Is it true that Joseph Zeng and Chen Du Ling's characters were turned into supporting characters when they were…
I haven’t watched the end but narratively, yes, they became support characters. It’s not really a screentime issue so much as how the story unfolds and what purpose they’re serving to the overall story. They both did a good job though. My favourite couple is Double Wu and out of the 4 main characters I like them best after Lu Wuyi.

Count me in! I love PXR, and Zheng Yecheng is a perfect match for her, imo. Can't wait!
I can’t wait either! Their cake fight at their closing ceremony was so cute. I'm really hoping this show does them justice.

Jinjing’s character is such a contrast to the serious plot—her lines are...lol But she definitely brightens…
The whole tone shift was just too weird for me. Sis has been working with GJM for so long he could give her some better roles.

It’s okay. I figured it was a mistake. Also, I think JJY is doing a great job. LWY will definitely be one of her life roles.

I think you’re confused. I’m not talking about Lu Wuyi at all. I’m talking about Jolin Jing’s cameo. She plays Mu Long and Su Jian. I’m not criticising the actress either. I’m criticising GJM for the character design and the awkward writing of the character. She can actually act quite seriously so I don’t understand why GJM always gives her comedic roles.

Whew lawd! What on Earth happened to the pacing in episode 20😫!? And the tone shifts…they were so sudden, they nearly gave me whiplash😣
And GJM really needs to stay away from anime style humor. It’s not something that can be replicated in live action very well without being awkward. Feel sorry for Jin Jing. Sis really tried her best but the character design isn’t suitable and seems hard to act naturally.

Title Blood River
what’s the correct billing?
1. Gong Jun - Su Muyu
2. Peng Xiao Ran - Mu Yumo
3. Qiao Zhenyu - Su Zhe
4. Chang Huasen - Su Changhe
5. Yang Yutong - Bai Hehuai
6. Kong Xue’er - Mu Xuewei
7. Zhang Shi’an - Tang Lianyue
8. Geng Le - The Patriarch

This is the correct billing according to the app and the official announcements. It actually includes more people on the app but I can’t remember them at the moment.

Story wise, she seems to function as a vehicle to showcase Ji Ling’s charm so I don’t expect development which…
No, there’s nothing wrong with it. It‘s just what I feel GJM is doing but it’s not a bad thing. When you create a character, you’re supposed to create them to serve a purpose. Sometimes it’s for the plot and sometimes it’s to offset other characters etc. And, when you hit a certain level of storytellling ability, you know what to do to get the audience to react a certain way. Why do you think GJM places a lot of importance on soundtracks? Because he understands music is a really powerful way to guide the audience’s emotions. People complain about his over usage of music but after a while it creates almost a Pavlovian response. When they hear the chanting, the audience feels a flare of excitement or anticipation because they know a fight is coming or something cool is going to happen, etc.
And I do think Ji Ling is the main protagonist even though it’s supposed to be a four person storyline but I don’t have a problem with it personally. You can tell which character GJM likes in his works. He can’t hide it at all😅 I don’t think I’ve seen such an excellent character design in such a long time. From a technical standpoint though, I feel like it does unbalance the story because it feels like the other three characters seem to be playing support for his plot line when it should feel like an ensemble as it was sold. It seems other people feel this way too but perhaps don’t know how to articulate it and focus on things like screen time. In fact, screen time doesn’t matter as much as how the story is told. That said, ensemble stories are quite hard to tell. It’s why a lot of advice to storytelling beginners is to decide the protagonist from the outset. I feel that GJM has gotten better since FoF, but he still has work to do.

No, what I said before still stands. To me, LWY’s purpose is to get the audience to like JL. Female audiences will like his devotion to LWY and though he has scenes outside of the love story, they will be charmed by the boyish nature and vulnerability he mostly only shows to LWY. This doesn’t mean that JL isn’t likeable on his own. It’s like adding an extra layer of
Sparkle to him. Especially since GJM seems to be pushing the character towards the popular character trope of “Beautiful, strong, and miserable”.
