Title A Naked Boy
the plot alone sounds absolutely gross to me. we need to stop romanticizing stuff like that.correct me if im wrong
If you watched the movie, you will realize that it was his EX-BOYFRIEND that he sees and not the boy (son of the ex-boyfriend) -- because they look alike. That's the vision he used to see when they were still young and in love.

It's still classified as romance because it's a failed romance. Not all romances are successful.

But why would you want to be hated by someone who had been so good to you? And then, be good to a stranger who you know also has the same intentions -- and sleep at his house! Talk about inconsistencies!

I get that. But what I don’t get is the sudden rudeness. That is not Aek at all. Aue went to his provincial home unannounced, right? He wasn’t rude to him at all. That alone should have given him an idea how Aue felt for him. So, that dinner rudeness was uncalled for. Why did he go there in the first place?

I EXPECTED TOO MUCH

Trailer made me expect much of this series. Love the photography and production design, the colors, the texture. Especially the provincial scenes. But great photography alone doesn’t make a great movie or series. This one suffered from its dragging pace and lousy dialogues. Lots of shots should have been edited and wouldn’t affect the story flow at all.

Acting is awkward especially from Aek, Vich and even veteran Gameplay. Aue is consistent, and so is the mother and other support characters.

Despite its snail-paced storytelling, I still watched the series, hoping it will get better.

And then EPISODE 8 happened. From the candlelight dinner onwards, everything went downhill. I couldn’t stomach Aek’s character here. Why was he so rude? Why walk out? It was out of character. He is suddenly homophobic! Then, another out-of-character moment came from Aue himself: He kissed Aek! What was he thinking?? Then the running while crying in the rain. Haha!! Laughable. Then stumbling down. More haha moment! Then that hospital scene: Why was Eve suddenly there? And why did Aek call a stranger to be with him – then spend the night with him??? Duh.

And Aek’s coming back to Aue, what was that? No apology at all? He came back as if nothing happened? As if he didn’t punch Aue on the face? As if he didn’t act like a homophobic prick??

Just fast-forwarded the last 3 episode, actually wishing Aue end up with Eve. Haha!!! Yeah, that’s how I hated Aek. To me, he doesn’t deserve Aue at all.

And that finale was more about Vich-Prem story than anything else.

Then that non-kiss between Aue and Aek at the end. Sigh.

Initially, I thought I’d be giving this at least a 9 / 10 rating, but in the end, I gave it a 7. Yeah, I’m kindhearted that way. I know it deserved a much lower rating. But hey, first time producers, so… let’s cut them some slack.

Nice premise, but execution failed. Writers made the characters stupid, so I couldn’t sympathize with any of them. At the penultimate episode, I just couldn’t care less anymore. Just want to finish this moronic series. Mix deserves to be ousted at the onset. What an obnoxious, useless character! And he gets rewarded in the end. How crazy is that?? Obviously there’s a Season 2, but won’t be looking forward to that. Sorry.

In terms of production, Japan and Taiwan and even South Korea are way ahead in the BL world now. The Thais and Filipinos who used to have good BLs, are now lagging behind because of old stories being rehashed. It’s quantity over quality now. Sad.

5 / 10 stars

I agree. Wore out that fast forward button. Moronic characters in moronic storyline.

EP 12: The actor who plays DANIEL KING (the artist/painter), is he also FATHER OLIVER in YOUR NAME ENGRAVED HEREIN? They look the same. I searched high and low but can’t find any info on him. Is he the same actor? Anyone, please? Thanks! =)

EPISODE 11: I’M SHIPPING YAN FEI WITH HER EX-HUSBAND!

To be honest, in this episode, I’m shipping Yan Fei with her ex-husband Yung Tai. At the company party, Yung Tai didn’t do anything wrong, yet both Yan Fei and Hsuan Yu treated him badly. That champagne incident is just ugh, so rude and impolite!

The flashback about the marriage proposal (with that painting titled “Cyan”) is just soooo romantic. It was followed by another flashback with another Daniel King painting titled “Magenta.”

Also, Yan Fei’s mother cheering Hsuan Yu on is so out of character! That is NOT HER at all!

In all honesty, other than shipping Yan Fei with her husband, I’m also shipping Hsuan Yu with Mark!!! They will look good together. I swear! Haha!!! =)

Love the GAMEBOYS feel to it, especially the last scene when they finally met up close and the camera was moving around them. This is short and sweet. Very special. It will leave you smiling in the end. Cute, light, funny, touching. 10 / 10

I checked their ages. None of the cast members is FOURTEEN. Where did you get that? 🤔
Oh. You’re right. But you began your sentence with “As for King… “ — so you were talking about him. Nowhere in that paragraph did you mention ICE, so I didn’t bother to check on him. 😊

Btw what's that sheep doing in the poster??
A film critic mentioned the use of sheep in gay films:

Sheep were used in critically acclaimed gay films like BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, GOD’S OWN COUNTRY, and STAYING VERTICAL. So, what’s the connection? Lambs are often used as an allegory of sacrifice in the Bible. It’s the most commonly used symbol in Christianity. So, the sheep is a metaphor on gender queers who are sacrificed in the discrimination and oppression from society.

Also, at the start of the movie, a sheep died. It was a foreshadowing of bad things to come. But at the end, a calf was born. This means that there’s hope for our main character.

Great gay-themed movie from 2006. Taiwan doesn't disappoint when it comes to this genre. Great acting from the three main leads. First saw Joseph Chang in CRYSTAL BOYS and he was fantastic in it. He didn't disappoint here. Saw Ray Chang first in WE BEST LOVE and he's also a revelation here. I just find the ending a bit abrupt though. Still, I give it a perfect 10 rating.

This series now ties with CHERRY MAGIC as my #1 all-time favorite Japanese series.

The two main leads, esp Nishijima Hidetoshi, are really lovable.

The only thing lacking is more affection (touching, holding hands, embraces) from the 2 main characters.

Other than than, this one is a solid 10 / 10.

Definitely worth watching!!! There's something magical about Chinese period BL series like this one and Killer and Healer. Love the way they really go all the way in terms of production design and costumes. This is a solid 10 for me.

Title The Yearbook
About half or a third of the series are flashbacks, so the apt title for this series should’ve been FLASHBACKS - THE SERIES.

To be fair, with proper re-editing, this could still be saved. Decent acting from a goodlooking cast.
On Killer and Healer Sep 3, 2021
Everything about this series is perfection. Okay, I may not like the ending but that doesn't take away the obvious hard work put into this drama by the entire production team. The acting is superb, and so is the production and lighting design and musical scoring.
