I know this series is going to be quite sad, and good at the same time. So I held back a while until today, when…
This series may not end in a sad way. There are still two more episodes left, and don't read too much into the preview for Ep 7 yet.
Personally, Nut and Phob both deserves a good and happy ending. Each of them had suffered so much, and all these, the series successfully delivered to us, even in just six episodes so far. I totally can feel the years and time that passed (kudos to the team for doing that wonderfully!)
Good balance between sweet and sad moments - and I hope for more sweet ones to come...
I know this series is going to be quite sad, and good at the same time. So I held back a while until today, when I watched from Ep 1 to 6 in one sitting.
What I can say is, The Yearbook is one of the best series I have seen thus far, and considering that it's Mean's first project as director, and the main characters and others being mostly new, adds on even more to how amazing this series turns out to be, surpassing even my own earlier expectations. I totally love Nut and Phob's love story, and it is to me, an embodiment of true love, that not many BL series successfully managed to present.
The OST is simply, amazing, and the music that plays consistently throughout the episodes (especially the guitar) is mostly timed perfectly to elevate the emotions and storyline further. Acting was mostly great too! Title's acting as Nut is best, and Man's acting as Phob is also very good, second best for me after Title's.
I like Ep 6 too, unlike some others below who thought that it wasn't good. Ep 6 ties in the storyline very well, and added in quite a few layers of depth to the story, and it is meant to provide both explanation and suspense for the next episodes. And it is meant to encourage people to rewatch, as after you have seen Ep 6, I am sure many among us will want to rewatch again right from the first episode after more of the story is revealed (more to be revealed in Ep 7 too, see the preview at the end of Ep 6)
No spoilers here - go and watch the series from Ep 1 to find out yourself what they are.
I rate this no less than 9/10 overall, and I really encourage those who haven't watch to go and watch (you can wait until all episodes are out to watch, in 2 weeks time if you don't like to wait for the next episode).
so did they do it when the friends laced Bbomb's drink?
No, and I really admire Bbomb's self-restraint there. Quite a few ppl took issue why they didn't do it, but a healthy relationship is not all about s**.
He was struggling with it, but he kept it down. No doubt he wanted to do it, but he likely respected Jin more than he wanted to force his way on him.
For anyone looking for YouTube links for all the episodes, here they are. Especially if you want to rewatch them again. Best quality is still on WeTV for me, but is only available via VPN.
For those who haven't watch this yet, please don't let the comments discourage you. This series isn't excellent or perfect. It has its flaws, but personally, having seen more than 100 BL series, this is one of the better ones for me. It is ultimately up to individual preferences.
Sometimes, we expect too much and that is why we become disappointed and even angry. Remember that we do not know yet what the producer is planning in the long run. What if they are indeed planning for more series (second series, series based on the side couples etc.)? We will only know this later. No one knows that a series will have a second season or not until it is confirmed.
The story in the original novel itself is already completed with this EP10, and they mostly stayed faithful to the storyline and the characters in the novel as they did this series, with some minor modifications in the event sequences. But this does not mean that the producer cannot consider expanding the story further.
I am sure the great interest many of us (including me) in seeing further development of Keam-Ball and Song-Jay stories are seen and heard by the producers (and even the actors). If we want it to happen, then we should support them. In YouTube and other places I saw reactions to this, the comments, opinions are much more positive than here in kisskh. Literally everyone is asking for a second season.
So, if you want more of those couples (including Bbomb-Jin), support them and hope for the best. I am not asking you to love the series like a rabid or addicted fan, but see it from a more wholesome perspective. It is not God-tier BL series, and given the relatively new slate of actors, but it is not a bad series. It can be interpreted differently by each one of us, and to me, this whole series has been heartwarming, comforting and meaningful. I will miss waiting for it every Friday, and I will miss its absence on the hour after midnight on Saturday...
I have to say I wholeheartedly enjoyed this series. A lot of people find it boring because it's rather slow and…
Wholeheartedly agree with you. It feels just so realistic and soothing, that I always look forward to watch it every single week from the start after long busy week at work. Even though it is past midnight when it’s available, I simply do not mind waiting at all.
The characterisation and development between Bbomb and Jin is one of the best among BL couples I have seen, and while some factors like lack of experience of the actors and a few questionable actions from the friends, I can see that they were really trying their best, Noh and Jom in particular.
Note: By the way, as someone mentioned below, and I felt it too, that the way Noh portrayed Bbomb is just representing Bbomb and who he was (his cold, introvert and distant personality) before he slowly opened up to Jin more and to love and society in general.
And if you are hoping for continuation of the story of the side couples, then go and support in the main YouTube…
Nope, just someone who watched this series and found it very satisfactory. I know not everyone has the same opinion, but there are many others who have similar opinion and are rooting for the continuation of this series.
For anyone who is just about to watch this series or just happened to stumble upon it, please don’t be put off…
And if you are hoping for continuation of the story of the side couples, then go and support in the main YouTube page. That way, I believe the producer will be encouraged to push out season two even more.
I hope that second season is being considered, but it does not help if we bash this one here just because we didn’t get what we wanted. A lot of times, story to be enjoyed need to burn long and last long. One series is not enough (many other series proved this), and if you want more, very simple, support the producers and actors.
For anyone who is just about to watch this series or just happened to stumble upon it, please don’t be put off…
To be fair, if a series is bad, it is bad. Sometimes it is also up to individual preferences and likings. So, don’t let others’ perceptions or judgments, be it good or bad on this series to influence you. Go and watch, and make your own take on it.
I for one, will rewatch it again from the beginning now that it is done. Worth watching and rewatching? Definitely yes for me.
For anyone who is just about to watch this series or just happened to stumble upon it, please don’t be put off by the comments you see here.
One thing I realised about kisskh after seeing quite a few series and the way people left comments and reviews is that while some of them are really good and valid, but many tend to be excessively critical here, and those who are a lot more vocal are usually those with negative impressions, while those who enjoy and like the series tend to be a lot more quiet/not commenting.
Based on ratings elsewhere and the likes and comments in YouTube, this series is very well received and liked. Each one of us presented various points here in the comments, so consider it carefully and do give this series a chance.
First thing, I hope they will consider to make a season two for Nitiman! And story author hopefully will extend the story beyond too (of course the series does not have to depend on the original story for second series).
What attracts me most to Nitiman from the very beginning is just how real it feels when I watch the episodes, the characters and especially the relationships, and how they try to deal with the issues surrounding those relationships. The usual BL tropes are there, but I feel that if we look beyond and deeper, we can see how Nitiman is a gem with plenty of potential, not excellent, but overall wonderfully made and done.
We must consider how many of the actors were relatively new, and the production company is not one of the most renowned ones in doing BL, and yet, they tried their best and I feel they did just amazing for first time doing BL series (or any drama series in that sense). Some found fault with the pace of speech, thinking that they were like reading from script, but honestly I just didn't feel that is the case.
(Special commendation to Noh for portraying Bbomb. He is just actually very handsome in person, and his portrayal of Bbomb is even more so. Whenever he is sad, angry, happy, smiling, he always looks good in all of his portrayals and actions. Jom also did wonderful in portraying Jin, and in the last episode in particular, he does shows his charm and cuteness more too).
Now back to the series: Nitiman's title is also known as Human, Society, Forensics and Lover. I feel that these have been explored quite well by the series, and understanding this made me like, enjoy and appreciate this series a lot more.
Human: This show is one of those that really shows the human side of life, of people who are going through periods of infatuations and love, and how each persons' feelings manifest in their daily lives. Bbomb's story and Noh's portrayal is superb in showing this in particular. Jin's struggles between his past and present relationships were also quite well shown in my opinion. And this is one of the few shows that shows the mundane nature of our human life at times: study, eat, drink, study, play, sleep, and rinse and repeat. It is how it is like in our world, be it when we study or work.
Society: Bbomb's mother put it very well, how since meeting Jin, he has changed. We all know that Bbomb just really loves Jin so much, ever since when he exchanged his meal with Jin. But he was one who rather chose to keep everything to himself, and to suffer and endure pain. This is where the whole 'society' came together, as shown in the finale episode, that everyone played a certain part in encouraging Bbomb and Jin to be together. While I do not agree with some of the ways that they did things, but to be honest, isn't that how we ourselves do things to each other at times? This is again, one of the reason why Nitiman just felt so real when I am watching it through all the episodes till today.
Forensics: This show proves to be one of the more intriguing series with mysteries and plot that served to confuse the viewers and mislead us, to make us think of many possibilities that can happen. That is exactly why so many people were not happy with this series, because instead of patiently examining the evidence and understanding the nuances (as in forensics), we chose to be quick to judge and be turned off by certain actions. Again, as I said, things could be better acted in some parts, and some of the actions were not morally right, but hey, that is real world isn't it?
Lover: Nitiman shows us that being in love is not so simple, or so sweet or lovey dovey all the time. Communications is very important. Many pointed out that miscommunications, misunderstandings between Bbomb and Jin happened essentially throughout many episodes, up to the last one today. But again, that is how things are in our relationships. The closer we are, it does not mean that we will avoid misunderstandings. Rather, it may expose us to even more misunderstandings and conflicts. Remember, the more we know about the other person, the more good and bad things both can come from it. In the end, it is how both people in relationship work together to solve the problems together, and learn to trust each other more.
The ending was great, and it shows just how both Jin and Bbomb has grown in their character since the beginning. Bbomb learnt to trust Jin, despite the many ups and downs and misunderstandings they had. Jin grew more confident in proclaiming his relationship, and that moment when he made his relationship with Bbomb official and publicised in the Facebook is the key milestone in this journey.
Don't forget that Jin was really still torn between his past relationship with Aim and his present with Bbomb. That was why he couldn't fully commit to Bbomb earlier on. A slice of his affection for Aim remained in his heart, and it was the moment when Aim and Jin had a heart to heart talk by the staircase that this was finally resolved. Aim herself was unfortunate that she was caught in the crosshairs, as someone who supported Bbomb since the beginning and knowing his love for Jin, and yet, ended up being Jin's love interest instead (by mistaking those tickets at the 'Moon' event for Aim's rather than Bbomb's). While I wished that the episodes can be expanded more, but I felt that EP 10 has sufficiently resolved most of the story and did it in a good way too.
Overall, I am very pleased with Nitiman, since the very beginning. From the trailer I know that this will be a great series. I am giving it a 9.5/10 overall score, as they did well in all areas such as storytelling, OST and music, cinematography and production, given the handicap as a team and production that had not handled big BL series/drama series before. Hoping for a season 2 and side stories to be expanded more. That ending with Keam-Ball hopefully is a sign that the production team and director are open to expand the series further with the same cast!
I am still halfway watching EP 10, but it was great so far. Amazing episode that wrapped up the story very well for me. Even before reading the novel, I have kind of known what happened behind everything, and most of my predictions came true. The true motivations are now known, and is as I expected it!
Just have to say, the love between BBomb and Jin is one that is challenging and seemed to be impossible, but by chance and (thankfully) with everyone's help, it became possible. All the plots in the previous episodes just served as a suspense builder before this episode's grand reveal.
Will write my view under spoiler and in review later, to keep this as spoiler free as possible. But overall, I can say, this is one really beautiful love story, and BBomb, you really are one super patient (and jealous XD) bf!
I said it before, and I will say it again. Nitiman is ultimately a story of love between Bbomb the 'Niti' and Jin 'Manman'. That is what I think the title tells us about what the whole story is. The series in fact has expanded on the novel quite a bit, which is even way more Bbomb-Jin centred.
Advantage of drama series versus novel is that, you can include more characters if wanted, not practical in a novel setting, while the novel does expand more on the development of the relationship between the two mains, which novels do best in. Some things are best described in words, while others are best shown by action/acting.
If this series is to explore properly all the potential relationships (assuming just Song-Jay, Keam-Ball) all at once, then I think it will need 30 episodes or more to complete. I am perfectly fine with the pace, for Bbomb-Jin development.
For the other couples, then what we need is side stories and series in the manner how some other main series have spawned their own side story. (Like LeoFiat with the recently announced Don't Say No from the TharnType - and TharnType itself is already a parallel story to the Love by Chance in the same Universe).
Instead of bashing Nitiman, which is in fact quite decent in many ways, we should hope for the producer and team to publish more related parallel, side stories along the main line. That was how many other series also did theirs right?
It's literally the first show in which the characters are actually doing what ppl they age would normally be doing...studying,…
Agree with you! In fact, that is why I feel this show is kinda very realistic! Rather than being too dramatic. They dared to delve into the ordinary, and unfortunately, got bashed for it here. :(
For all the comments below, it is understandable. Too many of us are expecting too much from all the characters.…
Not sure whether to call it spin-off, or side story (I think side story more appropriate), like how some series has led to creation of other series based on the parent story.
But I enjoyed the series so far very much, including EP 9 (of course, it isn't perfect), because I keep the focus on the two main leads, and the rest are supporting characters to their story. There are some parts that are not up to par, but overall, I am very happy with the quality of this series, considering they are still relatively new compared to other more established ones like GMM.
For all the comments below, it is understandable. Too many of us are expecting too much from all the characters. For me, as I have read the entire novel (I know most of us haven't) - this story of Nitiman is ultimately about Bbomb and Jin and them alone as the focus. The other characters are there as side characters to support the story.
I myself am rooting for Keam and Ball, and Song and Jay (the famous Kaownah and Turbo pair), but especially for the second one, it is where our expectations based on off-universe pairing that led us to be frustrated when we do not see the progress for these two couples (first one is more obviously hinted, but so is the second one - remember how Jay keeps on hiding the music lyrics?)
Again, Nitiman is about Bbomb and Jin and they are the focus. The series adaptation of the novel expanded the novel quite a bit, as there are things that series can do which a novel can't (example inserting more characters interactions).
Instead, we should hope for spin-off of these couples, Keam-Ball, Song-Jay etc. Who knows this is the intention of the direction in the long term? And if that allows us to explore more of Bbomb-Jin couple more later on, then why not? (They are one of my favourite BL couples - story wise and the actor portrayal wise).
How many series have 3 amazing OSTs in just 9 episodes?? The latest one in ep 9 is just plain amazing. I was smiling ear to ear when watching the scenes with the music in the background!!
Personally, Nut and Phob both deserves a good and happy ending. Each of them had suffered so much, and all these, the series successfully delivered to us, even in just six episodes so far. I totally can feel the years and time that passed (kudos to the team for doing that wonderfully!)
