Some of us here need to chill. I have watched plenty of series, and I find Nitiman to be very refreshing, and I like the pace and the representation of the story (I have read the entire novel too - and I think the way it is acted out is actually very good!)
Every series has its great parts and shortcomings, and every one of them have people who like them and dislike them. Don't like what you see? Move on, watch other series currently airing, there are many others out there playing now (we are so pampered now with so many series running concurrently from various countries).
Sometimes, just don't think too much about it, just sit back and appreciate what you see. It is a fiction story and entertainment but with grains of truth that many of us can relate to (For me, I kind of like the story development, and find them quite real actually).
Episode 8 is just excellent. It's getting better ever since Episode 1 (which was already good all the way since then). From all the past series I watched, this is one of the very few that I can relate to most if not all the characters and one that made me pay attention to every single part.
BBomb and Jin especially are the best, and getting better with the development of their relationship. I always look forward to their scenes (of which being the main and vastly predominant couple, there are very plenty).
Episode 9 will be a little bit on the sad side for the main, it seems... But I look forward to it nonetheless, as I have always been for the past eight weeks! Very few series made me to wait on them week by week as this one. Not perfect, but very good!
(Disclaimer: My own perspective and opinion, I know not everyone shares the same thoughts - up to each individuals' preferences of course).
Waiting patiently for the final episode in less than 24 hours. And seriously, enough of all these continued posting and efforts to smear and make this series (and any of its couples or storyline) look bad.
It is not perfect, and in the end it is entertainment. Some of us may not find it to be of our taste, but let's be rational ok? Enough with all the accusations that so and so are doing something in the very early episodes, when it has repeatedly been quashed by the recent episodes.
If you look in the new teaser for ep 19 and 20 you can see the rings and i think they belong to li cheng maybe…
From the blazer colour it seems to be Yong Jie, given by Xing Si. Plus, Yong Jie kisses Xing Si's hand right after that. But nothing is certain till next episode.
"Watch it slowly and understand the context..." C,MON! How can someone try to find a context that justifies getting…
Watch the whole story, don't just watch the first few episodes. Many if not most other series/shows also have their uncomfortable moments, but it is necessary to understand the entire story. This series showed great development in characters in all the four main characters involved across the episodes.
Sometimes I still can't believe how some is so against XS-YJ couple even until this point, when we are almost…
And I don't know if this is MDL phenomenon, but across everywhere else, YouTube, Viki, LineTV, websites across Greater China and East Asia, this series is very well received and praised. Its rating on Viki is 9.1, just below Make Our Days Count at 9.2. YouTube comments are also very, very positive overall.
Sometimes I still can't believe how some is so against XS-YJ couple even until this point, when we are almost to the last episode, even to the point of skipping all their scenes. As I said, yes, all of us are entitled to our opinions, and it is our choice if we want to skip those scenes (some even just drop this series altogether).
But once the whole series is over, I invite all of you to try and watch their scenes again from the very beginning. Watch it slowly, and understand the context and nuances of the story, and as some of us have highlighted, there are a lot of hidden things in many non-verbal and verbal cues throughout the many episodes - read some of the earlier comments if you need help understanding too.
I do feel sad seeing how some of the against comments kept on dwelling on things that especially episode 9 (this week) has definitively quashed as nonsense/not true (And yes, I highlight it - it is the supposed 'rape' by YJ on XS. It is not). VP Gao's attempted rape on Muren is rape, but as shown, Licheng saved Muren just in time, thankfully!
I am not expecting you to love this series, but at least give it a chance, and don't just brush a whole storyline aside (or even the whole series. Once you try, you may realise that it isn't like what you thought. Some of the comments below showed how this is the case, when ppl begin to understand the complexity and depth of the story.
And I really hope as many of us surely share the same hope, that this series will have a sequel (season 2), as I am sure that quite a lot of us, and also in Taiwan in particular, wants to see the continuation of both Licheng-Muren CP and Xingsi-Yongjie CP, just as much as we hope to get a closure on Make Our Days Count with a season 2 if possible.
The latest episode is epic! Of course I enjoyed Licheng and Muren's plot this episode, but scenes with Xingsi…
Note: Actors on the XS-YJ side were great, especially Michael (Xingsi) and Tiger Wang (the dad). Wico (Yongjie) was amazing too in the last episode. Mum was quite ok, but that is partly her character too.
Just my personal opinion - especially since while I enjoy the lighter drama of Licheng-Muren CP, I still prefer the more intriguing, deeper and heart-wrenching Xingsi-Yongjie CP. Charles and Anson did great job in portraying their characters!
Sad and happy at the same time that next Sunday is the final episode :(
The preview for the last episode is just so good. Licheng and Muren's scenes, and of course as faithful supporter of XS-YJ couple, can't wait to see my favourites' scenes! And it seems that (from the blazer colour), Xingsi would propose to Yongjie in Boxiang and Zhigang's wedding, and place the ring on his finger! (Maybe Licheng and Muren too?)
Looking forward to Boxiang and Zhigang's wedding too! My favourite MODC couple! Hope for MODC 2 official announcement somehow :D
The latest episode is epic! Of course I enjoyed Licheng and Muren's plot this episode, but scenes with Xingsi and Yongjie were just great. Those conversations, especially the ones between Yongjie and dad, Xingsi and mum, and the last one were amazing. And that my favourite OST playing as the final conversation unfolded really made me cry while waiting for the response.
I was almost worried that the dad would reject, and then I heard one of the best scenes I have seen so far in all the series I've watched:
'I can't accept it, but I am willing to support you, because as a parent, my love for you both is more important than my own feelings'. And then immediately after, having fully accepted that Xingsi was born as he was, liking men, 'I choose to continue to love you, and because of your choice, I will also love him'.
No cliche, no overreacting, and showing real struggles on dad's side and also on Xingsi, Yongjie and mum's side. I really like how everything turned out, through all the past episodes. The path were difficult, painful and yet, in the end, they truly and finally be together (just as Licheng and Muren too).
Deeply touched by this episode, and as expected, roller coaster of emotion, but very happy in the end!!
I know that this series is not for everyone, but for those who are still opposed to this series, it is ok to disagree but I believe we should understand the whole story more holistically than just focusing on fragments and parts of it.
Peace! And hope for a great episode tonight (though I know it will probably be sad and an emotional roller coaster)
I'm 'hoping' that their wedding won't be in this and that they save it for MODC s2 so that Yu Shi Gu and Hao Ting…
Yes, I agree on this too! It would be nice if then the HIStory 4 Close to You characters appear in MODC 2 as cameo for their wedding! And hopefully good ending for Yu Xi Gu and Xiang Hao Ting too! :D
This episode is just too sweet. And as someone who has always been rooting for Yong Jie and Xing Si from the beginning, I really can feel it when Yong Jie screamed, "Ye Xingsi is mine!!"
Wico is really very good in acting out the part when Yongjie thought that Xingsi chose him as a brother, the emotions are just so good there (You have to go and see it to know what I mean). And this episode shows that, while he is still young and impulsive, just as Sun Boxiang was in MODC, (don't forget how he kissed Zhigang forcefully, and did some stupid things, just as Yongjie did, although Yongjie was a lot more careful and calculating in his moves), but he was willing to learn and even let go, even if it causes him great pain. Thankfully, as predicted through the preview, Xingsi reciprocated his feelings and went on to claim his love!
And really, when Yongjie said, he did not even know how to sweet talk, he showed just how precious and vulnerable he was, despite all of his genius-level abilities and foresight. He just need Xingsi to love him, and now finally, they have each other (Episode 9 is likely going to bring a bit more drama again to both of them).
For Licheng-Muren couple, things are really very good, and really enjoyed their parts and their relationship. Their conversations were really good moments, and I hope that next episode, the VP will not cause so much trouble and drama with all of his actions (he is likely the one who tried to drive a wedge between the two with the recording of Licheng and Meifang)
Note: I am very happy to see the moments when the Sun Boxiang-Lu Zhigang cameo appeared (waited for it since the preview last week). Didn't expect my favourite MODC couple to have so much screentime this episode! (I hope that their wedding will be in the last episode!) - and confirmation of MODC season 2 please!
I disagree with you about just one paragraph. MODC was truly amazing, except for the last episode, and not necessarily…
I have just completed reading the translated novel too. And as others mentioned, there is an extra chapter, that detailed a happy ending version, which I hope MODC 2 will be based on, when everything in that last chapter is just a dream, a nightmare for Hao Ting.
Some of course would prefer to keep the story that way, but I am really looking forward to MODC 2 and how they will steer the story in happier ending in the end for both couples.
Note: Minor thing, but I really hope they keep Bo Xiang's short haircut in MODC 2 if it does come out later this year. His longer hair version in the last and next episodes of Close to You is nice, but I prefer the short hair one from MODC :D
I spelled Yu Xi Gu's name wrongly! Sorry, I am usually very particular to details, so can't let this one be! :D
Out of all the characters in MODC, I love Sun Bo Xiang and his character the most. And when I see Yong Jie, it simply reminded me quite a lot of Bo Xiang. There are differences of course, but parallels are plenty. The age gap between him and his lover, how he was 'looked down' because of his younger age among others. Of course, Yong Jie is much more calculating and intelligent, but I can't avoid seeing so many similarities.
Hope to visit that Rainbow Bridge one day too, it is really a beautiful place!
Just completed rewatching HIStory 3 : Make Our Days Count properly from beginning to end. A truly amazing series together with HIStory 4 (in its own way).
What amazed me is just how many parallels existed between these two, beyond the more obvious ones. I hope I am not the only once who noticed that the Sun Bo Xiang - Lu Zhi Gang couple is a parallel of Fu Yong Jie and Ye Xing Si in quite a lot of ways. Bo Xiang is so much like Yong Jie in temperament and character, and how he loved Zhi Gang so deeply, just as Yong Jie loved Xing Si. And of course, Xing Si had had past lover(s) before, just as Zhi Gang had 3 boyfriends before Bo Xiang.
(And that bridge scene between Bo Xiang and Zhi Gang... just reinforce the scene at the end of episode 10 when Yong Jie said that he will let Xing Si come home, each scene are really good! Though obviously the former one is much more romantic as their relationship already developed quite a bit further).
While the Xiang Hao Ting - Yu Zhi Gu couple is obviously a parallel of Xiao Li Cheng and Teng Mu Ren in many ways too. Of two people, one who obviously had had straight relationships before (Hao Ting and Li Cheng), who eventually came to find their true love (Yu Zhi Gu and Teng Mu Ren respectively).
And honestly, given that we now know that all HIStory series are connected in some form, it is seriously amazing that Meifang is the one who really witnessed not just one but two sets of twp couples, from her High School all the way to her working days!
(Really looking forward to this Sunday, hope to see development of the YJ-XS couple, more of Li Cheng and Mu Ren couple, and of course, Bo Xiang and Zhi Gang - and I hope to see Hao Ting and Zhi Gu too! Hope HIStory 4 : Make Our Days Count 2 will be out soon!)
