Ep 8 thoughts: Ok so Nan just rejected Party, and now KhunKhao returns to Thailand and by the looks of it, he…
Khunkhao and Phu are half-brothers, they share the same mother. Khunkhao is the younger one, born by Phu’s mother from the second marriage that she had in Melbourne.
Just my opinion, but this is not your typical BL series and since it was based on real story, it does feel real to me.
A bit exaggerated and over-the-top at times, but hey, that’s what real story being adapted into entertainment is about.
I understand that some people come here seeking for the main couple to be together, and can’t wait for that, and been grilling the couple, the company and all for dragging things the past eight episodes - but for me, I felt that the series was paced just nice.
It was meant to be a slow burn story from the start, and if you go in depth to the characters, their perspectives and all, it made sense (not all the time of course).
I know that this is not everyone’s cup of tea, but at least we should appreciate the story, the characters as they are (instead of demanding them to go the way we, the audience, want it)
Note: as usual, I find MDL comments to be rather excessively critical typical for a drama series in general, and the comments and posts for this series’ episodes are much more positive and supportive in YouTube (as comparison).
Nan loves Phu, but he himself did not dare to say it just yet (look at the very end of EP 8, at the scene when he was preparing the birthday dinner)
Khunkhao is actually Phupha's younger half-brother, which I had kind of suspected all along given that he was a Thai in Melbourne from the prequel episode time. They share the same mother. (Most likely I'll rewatch the Nanfah episode again right after this for more clues)
I am quite confident that either one or both of them will confess their feelings to each other in EP 9. I have a feeling that Khunkhao's intentions is after all to help Nan and Phu come together again. (I am pretty sure that Khunkhao was aware that the Phupha that Nan was looking, was his elder half-brother all along).
And Dina has actually remained supportive of Phu and Nan's relationship, as she told Nan parts of what Phu told her all those years ago (during the time of episode Phupha).
EP 8 Preview in WeTV - Khunkhao is back (from the prequel)
Think it's gonna get rather 'messy'. Please, I hope to get Phu and Nan sorted out sooner than later! (Heard somewhere that there may be extra episodes, but well, it's just a rumour)
I just want to highlight that if we have watched all the six or seven episodes so far, we will know and understand what Phu's background is.
Especially after that scene in EP 7 with flashback to Phu mourning his dad. This is someone who had lost his closest ones since young, his dad to (probably) heart attack, his mom who went to distant Melbourne and had a new family, and him not wanting to be a stranger in that family... All these childhood trauma eventually resulted in Phu being a rather distant, lonely and as someone who did not want to pursue friendships/relationships lest it hurt him again.
Notable exceptions are there, like Nan, Joe and some others, but it was rather fleeting otherwise. And ever since Phu fell in love with Nan, based on his prior experience and knowledge of Nan's thoughts and from what he heard and perceived, hence, he became more and more reluctant to reveal his feelings to Nan.
SPOILERS BELOW!
Nan said that friends cannot be lovers for him, and Nan said that if friends become lovers, that may end up in him not being able to look at the other in the eye anymore, ending that friendship.
(This was the basis for Phu's nightmare at the end of EP 6)
And when Phu overheard that again at the end of EP 7 when Party tried to confess to Nan and got rejected for the same reason, that made him to lose hope, and chose to bottle it up rather than getting hurt again. Unlike Party, who had not that much string attached, for Phu, losing Nan is indescribable - his nightmare come true is something he didn't want to happen, especially not hearing the rejection from Nan.
SPOILERS END
Hence, knowing Phu's character and what he perceived and had experienced, the way he behaved right up to now, EP 7, is just the way his character is supposed to be. I understand that audience like us have varying perceptions and wishes for our different characters, but at least as I share my perspective, I hope that other members of the audience here understand Phu's background better, his inner feelings, experiences and not impose what we think he should be like, and demand that Phu should behave or act the way that we wanted it to be.
After all, we are looking at Phu's story, and not the story we want him to roleplay.
Note: I hope that EP 8 will be groundbreaking, and that Phu or Nan will finally confess the feeling to the other.
EP 7 isn't out in WeTV VIP or anywhere else yet, it's only up to EP 6 this week.
For me, I am ok with EP 6. It was overall a good episode. I like the grandma character and her portrayal, which maybe comical at times, but there were a lot of moments when her presence helped in bringing the two of them together this episode.
To each his own, I understand that some of us are unhappy on EP 6 or the fact that the kiss scenes were not as good as expected.
To me, those are not the most crucial things in a story, and while no series/episode can be perfect, EP 6 is just fine for me. Personally, I have no problem with the way the story develops, and the acting by various actors, are good (in my perspective).
Most of the episode is pretty clear-cut, but in case some of us miss important hints on the last parts:
The grandma (very smart and observant indeed) knew that something happened between Phu and Nan, and that gecko? Definitely must be the grandma who placed it there, knowing that Nan was scared of it (grandma knew Nan well from his younger days, so this is quite likely), so that would help to 'melt the ice' between Nan and Phu.
Then that frustrating Phu's dream scene which really caught me (I really thought at first, that it was real), it was an important moment because Nan saw just how important he was to Phu, and Phu feared losing him just as much as Nan feared losing Phu (again). Thus far, Nan must have felt that he was the only one suffering for that ten years of longing and trying to find Phu without success, and now, he saw that Phu was actually feeling the same thing.
(Part of the anger that Nan experienced, out of sheer emotion at the end of EP 5 is Nan may have thought that Phu had lied to him because of some matters, or something related to Dina, which made him really insecure when Dina's call was picked up by Phu. This EP 6 ending scene, besides it being really sweet and touching, is an important moment of healing, of them gradually coming together, to be truthful to each other at last)
Note: That nightmare? It was the manifestation of Phu's greatest fear, of why he was running away in the first place. He was afraid that confessing his feelings would destroy his friendship forever, him losing Nan forever. He was thus torn between confessing his long-hidden feelings, and fear of losing his precious one.
(We know how nightmare goes, and we've experienced ours before. So, won't read too much into it, but I can just guess how many times Phu must have been tormented by that nightmare over those many years - don't think that Nan is the only one suffering, ok? At least, this time, Nan is by his side, comforting him, though Phu might not have realised it yet - till next episode maybe?)
EP 6 is so satisfying to watch! The pain from the ending of EP 5 has been (partly) healed for me :) (no spoilers here)
For those who are worried how it goes, it all ended well though the story still has ways to go for full resolution. Nicely done episode, very deep and powerful too in its wise words and messages.
That said, I really empathise with Phu. More to come in my later post on this.

OKKKK Devonte, now you really made me impatient for EP 8 this coming Wednesday!
These are snippets of the upcoming episodes (maybe 8 or later), where Phu and Nan are obviously already together, from the official YouTube page.
And not another 'dream' scene please!!!
