Sorry for the late post, been very busy at work...
EP 4 to me was an interesting one in a way because especially it revealed to me just how much Nan and Phu really cared for each other, particularly from Nan.
As a working adult, I can especially relate to how the tensions of workplace and career ambitions and progressions can jeopardise even relationships and friendships. And as I mentioned earlier, Nan was torn about this too, but it is obvious throughout that he wanted to protect Phu and did not want to go against the promise he made. He rather chose to not make use of his obvious advantages and is even willing to risk losing his career and job rather than to betray Phu.
(Hence, when we see Phu feeling hurt at what he thought must have been Nan going behind him and breaking his promise, Nan must have felt even more hurt, knowing that Phu must have thought exactly of that)
(Plus, seeing the final part of EP 4, when Party told Phu about what Nan did for him in securing the coffee shop, and not making advantage of that to get Phu to join as the company presenter, we can see that Nan is really someone who cared for Phu - in what way exactly? We will probably know sooner or later)
This episode if you notice more carefully mark the transition into a more tense kind of atmosphere as compared to the first three episodes, as we saw the frustrations that Phu had in being goaded and forced by all the antics of Nan's work colleagues, especially that hilarious and annoying Man (and that even more annoying coach), and Nan's anger and frustrations at those as well.
That part in the end on the rooftop (while yes, the editing is a bit choppy the later part of the episode), showed again how Nan and Phu both has the fear in their hearts, of facing that 'big elephant in the room', a.k.a. why Phu left. Nan did not want to push too much, lest that ended up causing Phu to leave again. Nan shouting even at Gie Gie and his other colleagues showed this fear clearly, that he did not want all these to make Phu to disappear again - hence, his words 'don't you ever leave me again' to Phu.
Meanwhile, as shown early in the episode, Phu was also still struggling to find the right opportunity to confess the truth to Nan, and got those wise advice from grandma and her friends. I feel that Party in the end will be a good supporting friend to Nan and act as a catalyst that push Nan and Phu towards each other.
(Why so? It was Party telling Phu about Nan's actions to help him secure the shop which pushed Phu to agree to be the presenter, and I believe later on, when (as shown in the trailer), Party is going to confess his feelings to Nan, that will also get Phu to action, to finally admit the truth to Nan)
Based on the post below, The Promise just passed 1 million total YouTube views a few hours ago. This is not bad considering that their company YouTube channel only has somewhat over 40,000 subscribers at the moment.
Vis-a-vis other BL series (often subdivided into 4), this means they have approx 3.7 million views at the moment in comparison.
Hopefully the series will be better from EP 5 onwards, not that I am disappointed with EP 4, but I also feel that the story has to move on more :) (Still has 6 episodes though, so I am sure that EP 5 and 6 will be substantial in this regard)

Almost done crafting my thoughts after rewatching EP 4 twice
The side characters are annoying in that episode? Yes. Does it make some of us feel unpleasant? Definitely.
To me, that rather put Nan’s understanding of Phu’s thoughts and how much he loves him (in fact) even more plainly clear. In short, despite all the extremes those people were willing to go to get forward in their career, Nan would rather choose/respect Phu and put his career at stake, rather than to betray him.
One thing I can see clearly is, there is still hesitancy on both sides to tell each other clearly how they feel for each other (reason? That unresolved ten years, as mentioned in EP 4 during conversation with granny and her friends)
EP 4 in very brief summary, without spoilers:In my perspective, the relationship of Phu and Nan are slowly going…
Just to let you all know that I immerse myself in the perspective of each characters as I watch the episode (from Phu's and Nan's perspective)
I like the way how this series handle flashbacks really well, as if they place more and more of the jigsaw puzzle pieces to fill up those missing years as we move through the episodes. Slowly, bit by bit, I can see more and more of their precious relationship, both in the past and the present.
(Few series can do this well without the flashbacks feel like they are unnecessary or repetitive)
In my perspective, the relationship of Phu and Nan are slowly going forward, and with each one of them slowly realising more and more what the other has been doing for them, all these while.
It is a build-up towards the revelation. The question is, when will Phu confess or be confronted by Nan about the truth of the ten years of separation? This is a slow-burn story and love, and for me I am enjoying it thus far. With six more episodes to go, I predict it will be sometime in EP 6?
I know that the side stories of the other characters like Nan's co-workers in EP 4 can be a distraction sometimes, but my interpretation is that, Phu sees all of that, and realises that they did it all because they cared about Nan (except for that annoying Man of course!). This will eventually (likely) push Phu to do what he should have dared to do, to confess the truth to Nan.
It means that this series really does impact quite a few people out there, and they obviously enjoyed it!
Most importantly, MSP delivers not just in numbers but in quality as well (just like my other favourite Bad Buddy)
