You are being far too kind! The power grab was out on full display. In all honesty though i find it amazing that the father ever accomplished anything. The guy is an idiot who can't see beyond his own ego!
Well, for the most part ep 19 and 20 were painful, depressing and infuriating to watch, but that's what made them such a fascinating watch. Politics, family disfunction, jealousy, envy and desire for power was on full display across most of these episodes. I hated it, but couldn't stop watching it. Li Ni family do not have a single positive redeeming quality, not one! That is some accomplishment.
The opening of episode 19 was incredibly telling, from doubting Li Ni to celebrating his victory as their own. The quest for power was on full display. This was a perfect contrast to the scene in front of the palace. Wounded and dead soldiers, the true cost on full display. The contrast was marked, powerful and ultimately so sad to watch.
I found Ying and father paying respects to Liu Cheng Feng another moment where I wanted to shout at the screen. - "He's alive, but he's a jerk!" seriously i really don't like this guy! However, this scene and a number of scenes across the these 2 episodes felt they were moments of reflection and reminder to the audience, where all of characters are positioned as we move into the 2nd half of this drama. In the end both episodes were gripping to watch even if it was to highlight how awful people can be.
Side note - seriously the doll???? WTH, I know its supposed to be sweet, but i find it odd and a tiny bit creepy! Li Ni better not upset Ying, if she starts pushing pins into it he maybe in trouble....
Side Note 2 - Emperor - "He doesn't respect his father" Seriously????? If we required any further proof that guy was an idiot. a bad father and unfortunately for the entire country a terrible emperor! The guy is a ass- hat!
You know, this whole plot about going to this wonderland, dream about having family, living a carefree life really…
Its rather on the nose as titles go, but given their own respective histories as well, a wonderland would sound like paradise . Both have faced tragedy is their pasts who wouldn't want to live in a "Wonderland of Love" In some respects the obstacles, are trials to test, strengthen and grow their relationship.
There was so much to enjoy about the latest episodes. My personal highlights -
Li Ni and Ying reconciliation was good to see, and whilst the underlying issue hasn't really been resolved, they have at least moved past the misunderstanding.
Li Ni and Ying chemistry through both episodes. It doesn't matter if they are fighting or falling in love they are hard to take your eyes off.
Cui Yi and Ying, finally a healthy loving family relationship. I was beginning to wonder if this did exist.
Li Ni and Cui Yi, This reminded me of an older lion and younger lion circling each other. Gauging each. Both proud, strong and most importantly respectful.
Li Ni confession - there are no words that will adequately capture the sincerity and the humour in this moment.
Young Master returns - The guy deserves to suffer, hopefully this is just the start.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold" - Grand Governor , you never saw it coming, Dior, Chanel, Givenchy anyone???
There were several other moments i liked but I will be here forever if I list them all, so i will leave it at that!
Script writer may or may not had family issues. It is based on historical information about how their thinking…
Family politics, in particular when based in the realm of the ruling class is a common theme in these kinds of drama's. The fact that its hard to find a redeeming quality from Li Ni family was marked in these last few episodes. It is perhaps to highlight the contrast between the sides, but it was pretty heavy handed. Sadly, envy and jealousy was at the fore.
So, I've just caught up on the last 4 episodes, and it I'm beginning to wonder if the script writer has some serious unresolved family issues? Never mind worrying about you enemies, worry about your own family first!
This has been a classic case of you can pick your friends but not your family.
With the possibly odd exception why is it that the people who should care the most about our leads seeming like to stab them in the back or leave them to deal with the consequences of their actions/crimes? So far its been friend A+ - Family - F-
I liked Li Ni attempts to coax Cui Lin (Ying) although, the mouse did deserve a better ending! Poor mouse....
I don't know if that was the last we have seen of the "Young Master" but I felt like he got off lightly if it is(Too quick)! I didn't find his possible exist particularly satisfying. I do expect him to reappear at some point, so hopefully there will be a more satisfying conclusion for him!

He didn't, I was just remined of these words when I watched the recent episodes. The words are an approximation of a quote by F Scott Fitzgerald who wrote The Great Gatsby.

I wish I could take credit for these words, sadly they are not mine, but as I was watching Li Ni behaviour today they popped back into my head. Just felt these words kind of fit Li Ni feelings towards Cui Lin.
I generally don't have any problem with differing opinions about a drama's when its rational and well thought out. Constructive dialogue should be encouraged and welcomed as this can open up ideas that have not been considered. Personally the reason I watch drama's and visit this site is to share thoughts about what we get to watch and yet every so often I see posts that descend into nonsensical attacks on a drama/character/performer or other forum members.
Using this forum is supposed to add to the enjoyment of our viewing experience or that's at least how I see it.
For anyone who isn't enjoying this drama, leave your comment, as this is your right, but maybe you would be better served to simply stop watching.
This was just about a boy standing in front of a girl, talking about their pasts and their hopes and dreams for the future. Very simple, but very effective. There was a purity to that moment

Q) When did it become a requirement that our drama characters always behave perfectly? (Subjectively at least)
A) I hate to shatter any illusions but our drama characters are not perfect, and shock horror, they are not supposed to be. Cui Lin made a strategic decision not a romantic one! How dare she!........she put her army/friends/family first and not an adversary first.....the nerve of the woman!
Q) Why do we have to take one action from a character and use that action against said character, ignoring all other previous "positive" actions?
A) Sadly, it seems so much easier to attack the one action that isn't liked and ignore the many positive actions. Do we really need to make such sweeping decisions about a characters/drama's based on one minor action? I truly hope not...
Q) When did it become a bad thing to have a layered character that uses all her resources to match an intelligent adversary?
A) Cui Lin and Li Ni are not married, they are not boyfriend and girlfriend, they are maybe friends based on mutual respect for each other. What we do know is that they are adversaries! They have different agenda's because they are not on the same side! Cui Lin simply uses all the weapons at her disposal to defeat Li Ni, sorry people this is kind of a requirement of her job!!!
Q) Why do we see the romance tag and expect every decision our characters make to based solely on romance?
A) Yes its a romance, but its also a drama based ambition and political struggle. Do we only see the tag we like and ignore the others? Given the other tags did we expect that there would only be cute romance scenes throughout?
Personally, I think the chemistry and even the misunderstandings between the leads has been the highlight of this drama so far. I hope they can maintain this chemistry moving forward.

Personally I agree it wasn't the right choice, but I do see some logic to it. In the end, this feels like winning the battle but losing the war kind of moment. She may come to regret it.

Its rare for traitors to be concerned about their rights to rule legitimately, power and greed will often overwhelm words such as "right" or "legitimate"
If the Cui family truly decide to rebel and given an earlier reference to capturing the crown prince's son, it would appear any rebellion will have at face value at least a degree of legitimacy anyway
Cui Lin decision in that moment was a choice she made based on intellect or what she things is the smart choice. It may turn out to be the wrong choice but it was a strategic decision. Li Ni for maybe just a moment was impacted by this. Both leads have their own strategies, I don't think Cui Lin was idiotic in this moment, she was staying true to her character. She is up against someone who is at least her equal and she is using everything in her arsenal to compete against him. Was it the right choice? Time will tell.
This was an old fashioned staring competition! Who was going to blink first? Sadly , Li Ni you lost this round. Intelligence over emotions. Manipulation is part of Li Ni & Cui Lin relationship, it is to be expected that this will cause misunderstanding.
Not going to pretend I like the introduction of side characters into our leads romance, but this happens so often in drama's it was to be expected.
I'm glad that the issue over supplies has been resolved, I like a good story arc about supplies as much as anyone but i think 8 episodes was enough.
Fully expect in next couple of episodes for Li Mi to get his "revenge" and manipulate Cui Lin right back! There interactions are great to watch

A relationship built on a healthy respect is so much more appealing to me than just a pretty face. I feel spoilt that we have healthy respect and such beautiful leads.
