I have trust issues whether this will truly be romcom. This is Beenie after all! But if it is, I’m glad. She will make us cry and laugh and hopefully we will have a happy ending.
The intro and outro music is so beautiful. Can’t wait for the whole OST because some efforts have gone into this. I actually replayed an episode just at the start and finish for the music.
In terms of the character development of the ML, he clearly has come to terms with his identity. I think I smiled when I realised how much like his father he had become but he also tells the station guard he speaks mandarin ‘very well’. That told us so much about how he saw himself. I remember him having a conversation earlier in the story about the name of a place. He didn’t seem to have the same command of language then. The FL pointed out how the place name was very close in meaning in both languages. This makes me think he studied mandarin further during their separation. For a number of reasons, not just linked to understanding her better. I say this because in the drama notes, the ML mentions that his return to the village isn’t about rekindling his relationship. That jarred a little but made sense later. We don't know if he’s aware of her location. But he is finally returning home because he is at peace now. And we sees many signs of this. However, her mother’s words about her daughter’s eligibility, the daughter’s own feelings (which we know of), and that these type of characters do not mess around with things like feelings. Waiting for someone isn’t unusual. Also the scene we got in Ep 5 about the meaning of “I like you” and “I see you clearly”. So I will take that their relationship will resume. More mature and definitely deeper. Afterall, the FL did find the ML childish at times when they first dated. So both have grown into this relationship.

Learning that the ML is of mongol origin was interesting in that he was already very proficient at horse riding (essential here) and shooting.

Watching the first scenes again of her writing in Ep 1 and one of the last scenes of her writing at her desk in Ep 8, those are of the same timeline. So her shoving snow takes place at this future date. The fact she is handling the birch paper and also that the items on her desk are identical in both scenes - flowers, cake etc. Also, this house was a place her mother ‘rented’ and one not familiar to her when we start the story after she leaves the city first time. I had to go back to appreciate this. Makes her words about no footsteps to her door more poignant. She wished to clear a path to the village limits for whoever might come find her. But the timeline would be a short period before the fireworks scenes. She has returned home again after three years.
Just shocked to just see that. As long as he’s healthy and content. We wish him the best in his future endeavours. I only discovered him when The Autumn Ballad was released. And it was instant love for me. His voice is incomparable
Love this cdrama so much . And I feel it delivers right to the last moment. Possibly a xianxia for those new to the genre. It has all the elements of the genre and an ending that answers many of our questions.
