Serious question. How does downrating a drama because Winwin didn't get the girl help your favorite idol's career?Winwin…
YES I want to see Winwin in more roles!! Yes to everything you say here, Michelle. I think this about every drama I watch, where the viewers lower their score to ridiculous levels to express displeasure. This drama so far has been one of the best this year. I wanted to see this couple together, and waited for this drama. Winwin's acting was an extra fabulous delight and he made me a fan of his here. He made this drama so lively esp as the ML had to be more restricted in his emotions - Ci Sha did fabulous too at showing us his character's emotions right from the beginning. I still haven't seen the final 6 episodes, WETV is stuck at 34 and I'm going a little crazy waiting for the next episodes now. So I'm trying to read cautiously here so the last episodes are new for me. I had to come here and support you on Winwin!

Title A Splendid Match Spoiler
It’s only been a few days and she’s SIGNED THE DIVORCE PAPERS after she kept this bombshell secret from him.
I am so sorry about your fiance. That is so sad for you and both your families, and him. It must have been a little similar and painful to watch the funeral procession and the wedding cross one another in this drama, though not the same as what happened to your fiance, the juxtaposition of life and death at what is supposed to be one of the happiest days in a life. You have my sympathies, and thank you for sharing. Have you found you like this drama too because in this drama, we are given the opportunity to spend time with the characters and their emotions? There is a thoughtful approach to the directing in this drama, as if the writer and/or director care about their characters - thinking especially of the three leads, but also we have gotten to see different emotions by the supporting characters too.

Title The Heir
I just watched the entire ten episodes so far without any brakes... The plot and screenplay is so damn perfect.…
lol I watched the entire first 10 episodes yesterday too, though I did take breaks! Was up way too late last night because I knew I wouldn't sleep if I didn't know what happened next. The drama is so good. The writing, filming, acting, all so well done. From the first 10 minutes, I was drawn into this world. I feel like I am there with our FL on her journey. I can almost feel the ink on my fingers sometimes. I'm hoping as the commentators here say, that as the drama goes on the rating will correct itself as more truer ratings will be cast.

Title The Heir
after start this I find splendid match boring
I'm glad it's not just me. The quality in everything is so much higher in The Heir than in SM, and yet I was and am enjoying SM too! some of the photography and acting is good in SM too. They are very different stories, to be fair. I am really liking the fine details in The Heir on how ink is made, and also the idea that the very best ink helps the calligraphy and art become more - that the ink contains everything that goes into the work. I am fascinated by The Heir, totally absorbed in the story, the acting, the characters, the family businesses and the cost of succeeding. Everything is top-notch. I want to write down some of the grandfather's lines, they are so good! (I finished ep 10 late last night). I am so glad The Heir is airing now. I very much hope the ratings rise, as it deserves so much better.

Title The Heir
Could have the accident 10 years ago (FL dad getting drunk and fire ensued) be an insider job?
I have always wondered the same thing. It was so suspicious that her father fell asleep like that, with them knowing how serious it was to get the tribute delivered successfully. I'm waiting/hoping this will be picked up in much later episodes.

Title A Splendid Match Spoiler
It’s only been a few days and she’s SIGNED THE DIVORCE PAPERS after she kept this bombshell secret from him.
I haven't seen episode 34 yet, so I can only get some clues from reading comments here on MDL. I agree with you, it fits her character too: if he isn't willing to come home and talk with her about it - something that isn't that important - then what is the point of being married? She has been trying to see him, but he hasn't been trying to see her. He should have come home after the first night. I find it interesting that he could behave so coldly to her even when he knows she is no longer interested in any way in his nephew. I think he is also insecure, and it's only with her that we see it. He is so used to being in control, and when he isn't because of his jealousy, we see him retreat from her. Without any word to her, either, any explanation, he just stays away from her. I'd be mad too. I also appreciate your sharing your history too. I had a very short first marriage, and when I knew it wasn't going to work with us - it was a personality thing, neither of us did anything wrong - I left. We were married for only 18 months.! We've become good friends since as we shared a child we co-parented together. So when I look at GZ, and her sending him the paper, she was telling him, enough. Either we talk, or it's over. And just like with CXQ, when he didn't show, she walked away and forgot him, she would do it with CYY. You have made great points. I am so delighted that she is keeping her character after marriage. Though I do think both of them should have talked to one another earlier on, but CYY made it worse by not talking to her at all and avoiding her completely.

WHAT WAS THIS LEVEL OF INTIMACY IN EPISODE 29?????!!!! I WAS CLUTCHING MY PEARLS
LOL! I was watching and thinking, oh, we haven't seen this level of intimacy in a very long time, and yet it was so tastefully done. Finally! A good wedding night!

I’m really enjoying watching A Splendid Match, and honestly, I already have strong second male lead syndrome…
Agreed! I am really enjoying this drama too, for the same reasons you mentions above, and more. I think the character of Ye Xian adds so much to this drama, too.

Ya'll do realize that many of ya'lls visceral hatred of Ye Xian proves my point that he's the best written character…
I wish they didn't hate him, though. I think Ye Xian is a fascinating character, and Winwin's acting has carried this drama at times, when otherwise the drama would have been too quiet. Ye Xian has such a presence in the drama, and as much as the drama is about our two main leads, it's also about him. His story arc has been so interesting to watch. I really like the interplay and intersection between the three characters, and how their relationships are working out so far (to end of ep 29 today). I think Ye Xian is a brilliant character and Winwin is doing a good job portraying him - I also think the character is polarizing, as many characters on the show don't like the character either, never mind viewers here, and I agree with you that this shows how much attention the writers have given in creating him. He is dramatic, selfish, moody, lonely, craves love and doesn't know how to ask for it. He's also kind to those he loves, quick thinking, intelligent, and clever. He is maturing because of GZ and CY. Oops, I wrote a little much here, but I am really enjoying this drama for many reasons, and one big one is Ye Xian.

Title A Splendid Match Spoiler
One of the best and most unforgettable scenes I watched in A Splendid Match was definitely the parallel between…
It was also interesting how YX makes the decision he does right then, counter to what is usually done for funeral processions, letting the wedding procession go by first. Very symbolic, the entire scene, life and death intertwined. Also these three characters and their stories entwined, with GZ saving YX, and CY saving GZ, and multiple times between these three too, esp CY towards the Yes. I thought the scene was beautiful and haunting, from the beginning to the end. Many layers of story and characters that came together in such a lovely way.

Title A Splendid Match Spoiler
Episodes 16 & 17 were breathtaking. I love how the story moved from the personal sphere (the households) to the public sphere (the palace and the court) in these two episodes, and the story lines came together in this episode, so that we land at the end of 17 in the next section of story to come, with all our characters moved forward. All three main characters also moved forward in learning what the they stand for and care about. Especially with the betrayals and plotting behind the scenes. This is an intelligent drama, where we have to pay attention to catch everything. I like all three of the main characters, and I like how the writing shows them having good and bad sides to each character. We get good quiet moments between the different characters, too, so we can see their relationships with one another. And thank heavens it was two episodes yesterday, and again today!

It's been ages since I was so invested in a drama while watching it, that I come here to read and make comments after each day's viewing. I am really enjoying this drama. I like the three main leads (FL, ML, 2ML) and how they are interacting and affecting one another. It's really good to see characters learning because they met one another, and even with the 3ML this happened (and I have to admit I like him too). It's interesting too to see the various marriages happening in the background, and why they are - the choices those characters make, and why. The machinations and reasons..... the results of the choices the FL's mother and father's concubine made to marry her father, and the cost especially to the women. We are seeing how elusive a good marriage and happiness can be. And then watching our leads slowly draw nearer to one another and begin to start caring.......Plus I like the political story in the background, and villains we have had glimpses of, and the land registration and taxes - how something simple can become so bloody and violent. Good writing and acting. Very enjoyable drama so far.

While appearing to help others whom FL interest in as partners, or interested in her, ML is quietly moving them…
Exactly! I agree with both of you, @ValW and @khirannis, in what you each say. I am really enjoying a mature ML who is also kind and sensitive - he is worthy of our FL. Plus so clever and scheming, yet not malicious. Just determined. Both ML and 2ML are changing because of the FL, as she is because of them, and I really enjoy this kind of writing. I suspected I would like this drama, and I am enjoying it so very much because of our three leads (ML, FL, and 2ML) plus the grandma, and the story itself. I also love that the writer lets our ML be a little soft, too, when it comes to the FL.

No one is more stressed in this drama right now than Third Lord's manservant. lolMy man is STRESSED! do you hear…
That was so much fun to watch!! And our ML pacing, not sure what to do, so fun to watch him suddenly realize he might have a competitor!

Worst of all is the Ye Xian. Why does he have so many episodes than the ML. He’s so annoying. I’m forwarding…
I agree with everything you say except the love story with 2FL, she doesn't exist for 2ML at all. She is hopeless and deluded, he would/will never look at her. I think our FL and 2ML are hilarious together, and then the FL with the ML - wow, slowly the chemistry is coming on between them. ML is much more her match. In spite of what 2ML does - and it is shocking - he learns from it because of the FL, and we can see his character growing because of her. Agreed, he is complex, so is the ML and our FL. Good writing and acting. I really enjoy how each of the three main characters really influence one another through their words and actions.

Title A Splendid Match Spoiler
Winwin did such a great job portraying Ye Xian. Ye Xian is such a complex character, and I think Winwin handled…
That scene was really well done and acted. I felt so sorry for him, trying to win her and always getting it wrong - even if he does stupid things, he does them for the best reasons. He just doesn't think them through, and Winwin is doing very well at portraying this character. I am also enjoying how they are showing these two as wanting to be friends, knowing they are similar, but getting it wrong, too. FL and Young Marquis always take it too far with one another. So we can compare to FL and ML and how they have a rapport of a different kind. It's interesting, the different layers of relationships, so far, too. The Young Marquis has a little piece of my heart esp after he apologized/didn't apologize for the whipping. He needs to learn to say he is sorry, like FL's mother FINALLY said to her!
