This changes, however, when he meets the Cat Lord (Tian Xiwei). Some hot scenes in later episodes, if you force yourself to make it that far.

The chemistry between Xu Kai and Tian Xiwei is off the charts.

If you don't like Xu Kai, why ask? Just watch who you like. Something cookie-cutter like Pursuit of Jade might work for you.

Tbh, I didn't see a heavy layering of makeup on most of the actors. Snake Lord is white because she's, well, White Snake. And Book Boy because he's a book?
