just finished reading the novel. It is a uniquely crafted story with romance, angst and so many twists. We rarely come across a detailed love story between a revenge-driven powerful eunuch and street smart lady. Their story was unconventional and refreshing.
For the certain scenes that I didn't like or came as a shock, I think its because the author either has a backward mentality or thinks women were treated like this in ancient times (somewhat true tho). I do get it, how much ever we swoon on respectful historical MLs who treat women equally and respect their partners' wishes, that was mostly not the case in ancient china. So, its like a story that really happened in ancient times and for ancient people to consider a great love legend.
But, ig I have the right to complain a bit too. I'm not complaining about sexism, it is prevalent and I tolerate that when I watch it in ancient dramas because that's how it was in the past but r@pe is different. If you watch a drama or read a novel with a character who does that, will you say that person is worthy of love? watching someone forcing their partner in a slap kiss thai lakorn is better than watching the same story in a romantic cdrama because while watching such lakorns, you know what you signed up for. I might be whining too much but this hard to digest after loving and admiring xiao duo's character after seeing the drama version. I don't wish to read a nice novel and start disliking the main lead on the contrary. How much ever the novel Xiao Duo was sweeter after that scene, I kept feeling bitter while reading it. It was hard to say I wish I had a man like Xiao Duo in my life after that.
My only hope for this story is the drama. I genuinely hope the drama doesn't disappoint. I will forget the novel and the novel Xiao duo if the drama's Xiao duo is nice till the end. Something tells me he will be. I really like the drama and the main characters. Drama's Xiao Duo is too handsome to hate lol

I won’t forgive the novel version of xiao duo. I’m angry at the author for ruining her own character. The author is a woman herself, does she not know what r@pe is or think it’s romantic to force your beloved and cause them pain ??!!
I truly believe this won’t happen in the drama. I really don’t want to hate the drama version of xiao duo. I like the drama so far and I hope I don’t regret it. I’ll be so thankful to the whole crew if the drama doesn’t follow all the cruel things in the novel

It’s somewhere around chapter 60 to 75. I would hate to spoil it but here you go. According to me, novel xiao duo r@ped yinlou by what I have just read. She asks him to stop & he forces himself on her & even tells her he wants her to feel the pain. I was shocked to read that part. The author is crazy to make the ML of her novel do smth like that & justify it as love.
I’m just gonna believe that the drama won’t be like the novel & forget about the novel. For once, I’ll praise the director/ script writer for changing things instead of the author.

im reading the novel rn & im so thankful that the drama doesn't entirely follow the novel till now (partly becoz of the censorship maybe). I'm in utter shock and confused with what I just read in one of the chapters (not the ending, just one scene). The drama has made few of the characters more bearable. I usually watch cdramas when i feel lonely and empty so that I can engage myself with something interesting. I was feeling low in spirits thinking about my uncertain future when I was watching ep 14 to 17. yinlou & xiao duo's interactions comfort me ❤️🩹 I love how they try to live in the moment and enjoy each other's company without spending that precious time worrying about their future. They have many obstacles down the road but are trying to look on the bright side & be happy. It really lifted my mood and made me feel better. I can go on and on about every problem in my life and just drown but the way I want to live my present and be happy is in my hands and it would be a waste to let the present go. their positivity and readiness to face anything is inspiring 💕

I took cao words literally & didn’t think much. Didn’t know it was steroidal. Thought it was to suppress growth hormones not testosterone. Totally forgot that testosterone plays a key role in beard growth lol. Now I can connect the dots, thank you.
Being a eunuch in real ancient china must have been dreadful, it was just slavery. They were royal slaves. I have no clue how men who ended up as an eunuch endured the pain of getting castrated. It is equal to robbing someone of their right to live. I feel sorry for people who lived like that 😔
it just struck me after posting that comment lol. I took cao’s words literally & didn’t think much. Thought its controlling only his growth hormones not testosterone. Anyways, even if he pops ten of such pills in, he would still be affected by yinlou’s presence & feel that tension. His hormones won’t have a lot of say, his heart is already whipped for yinlou lol. I’m gonna throw biology aside like I threw physics while watching a few dramas.
