Thank you, Cho Na! I have bookmarked your article. Sometimes I’m too tired to commit to a 40 episode drama. Yes, short dramas can have low production values, but they also lack a lot of repeated scenes, fillers and circular plots that plague some longer dramas. I am currently watching Rise from the Ashes and Secrets of the Shadow Sect and enjoying both. With so many short series being released it’s great to have your guide. I will definitely check out your suggestions.
Dear Mon and Bunny, thank you for another great article. It’s nice to see Jdramas getting some love. I see many of my favorites here and a few that I will check out. Also, thank you for listing the streaming platforms. It is a challenge for me to sometimes find legitimate sites to see some recommended Jdramas.
I give you credit for finishing this. I had to stop at episode 5. There were too many missed opportunities to tell a meaningful story and all the characters began to annoy me-even the ones I knew I was supposed to like.
I just spent the most wonderful afternoon reading this article and checking out the bios. I’m in awe of the talent and time spent designing the graphics and content. Once again it reminds me that MDL is at its best for me when I read the editorials, reviews and now the bios (which I haven’t focused on before.) This was such an artistic treat. Thank you!
I just started My Marvellous Fable based on your editorial and the poster. The drama is a wonderful surprise and has pulled me out of drama doldrums, since I was yearning for something different. I love how the fables are another clue to the author’s life. (It reminds me in some ways of It’s Okay to not be Okay.) I looked at Fable’s poster on MDL and I would have passed over the drama based on that-it’s just another generic cast picture. This is why I love editorials, they always add another dimension to drama watching and point out dramas that might otherwise be overlooked. Many thanks!
Thank you for your sacrifice 😄. I never heard of any of those dramas before and probably won’t watch them now that you have reviewed them for me. This was a very interesting approach to drama watching and I enjoyed your article. As for ratings in general, I tend to look for a reviewer or a comment from someone who has similar taste to mine. Also, a word of warning to anyone looking at my lists: they are only a fraction of the dramas I’ve watched. It might seem like I love everything I watch because my Completed list is full of ratings from 8.5-10 when in fact I only keep track of dramas that made an impression on me, and I don’t even keep track of all the dramas I’ve dropped anymore. So I guess viewers like me are another wildcard. Those who love a drama might rate it while those who were underwhelmed might not even bother. I hope you write more articles, this was fun.
Yay, another editorial! Thank you. I just checked my rewatch list and there aren’t many dramas that drew me based on their posters, so hopefully their pictures on Pinterest are better. I recently finished “The Double” and while the poster is okay, I’m having more fun looking at the thumbnails and fmv’s. Loved your picture of Stealth Walker and have added My Marvelous Fable to my ptw list thanks to that beautiful picture.
Thanks a lot 💜💜. I am happy about streaming platforms wanting to invest, just I hope they take time to work…
Thank you for reading and answering my post. I hope the few nasty comments won’t keep you from writing future editorials. It’s unfortunate that some people can’t disagree respectfully. And I agree, streaming platforms are a double edged sword encouraging lazy scripts and unnecessary multiple seasons. Rarely does a second season live up to the first. One of the things that drew me to Kdramas was fact that the whole story was complete in 16 episodes unlike American tv where series drag on for years.

Thank you! I tried the links, but it’s not available in my area.
Yes, a good show that could be so much better with decent subtitles. I wish Viki would pick this up and fix the subtitles for the international audience.
Thank you for this well written, thought provoking article. So many points resonated with me. I think as Kdramas have become more popular, more streaming services have entered the market. I wonder if increased demand is rushing the process of writing, development and production. Still, I hesitate to bash Netflix and other streaming platforms. When I began watching Kdramas years ago, Netflix was the entry point, and I imagine it still is for many new viewers. I remember being so impressed by “Oh My Ghost “ and then “Signal,” and “Stranger.” I hope newer audiences will find dramas that excite them even if it’s something I pass up because I’ve seen it twenty times before.
“Recycled cheese.” Love it, a perfect description. I put off watching this for a long time because of the comments and reviews, so when I finally started it, I knew what I was getting into. Still, this script in 2023? I’ve lost track of how many times the fl tripped/fell into the ml’s arms. I’m not sure I’ll finish this one.
I hope you write more articles, this was fun.
