Thanks! I wrote a piece here 2 years ago lamenting the trend toward multi-season K Dramas, it's much worse now,…
I agree. Not just multiple seasons, but splitting shorter dramas into 2 parts. One of the reasons I switched to Kdramas was because they were complete stories contained in about 16 episodes unlike many American shows that drag on for years, change writers and morph into something completely different by the end. I am sad to see this trend infecting Kdramas.
I was on the fence with this one, but took it off my list. I like the actors individually, but after reading your review, I’ll go with my first instinct and skip it. Plus, I’m not up for a lot of yelling. Thanks for the heads up.
I agree completely. This is one of the gems in a summer full of overblown, cookie cutter productions. This was so well done that even though I could see the ending from the beginning, the story and acting kept me engaged.
This was a fun read. I love your choices and I’m glad you mentioned which genre you would like to see them in. My pairing would be Zhu Yi Long and Ma Si Chun. I would love to see them in an adult melodrama. But seriously, I would watch Zhu Yi Long in anything, that man can act.
Thank you for this trip down memory lane. Something in the Rain was my second Kdrama (Oh My Ghost was first.) In the beginning, I would watch dramas based on their synopsis, now I also check out the writer and sometimes the director especially in articles about future productions. A writer I really enjoy is often more of a reason for me to check out a drama than who’s starring in it. Again, thank you for your hard work. I always look forward to reading the editorials on MDL. The editorials and member reviews are what keep this site from being just another Media/PR outlet.
Finally an editorial! Thank you for this wonderful article. I learned so much and am inspired to track down some of these films. I truly appreciate the hard work that you and the other writers put into your editorials. Please MDL keep the member articles and editorials coming, they are what distinguish this site and keep it from becoming just another industry/pr outlet.
I loved your review. I’m so tired of the Dramaland tropes you mentioned. I was thinking of checking this one out because I liked some of the ML’s earlier work, but now I’ll skip it. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks. I was really excited for it because I saw some cute clips plus its a reunion for two actors who did great…
I started this because I really liked the ML in Imperial Coroner, but have to admit I couldn’t finish Once We Get Married. I was hoping for more from this, but the scene where he faked the need for a transfusion crossed the line for me. Seems like the ML is more immature than the kid and that’s getting on my nerves. I feel like this could have been so much better. Instead it’s turning out to be superficial and tropey for me.
oh I am so glad you liked it ....I haven't watched that drama ig ...will maybe put it in part 2 if there is one…
I had forgotten about Miss Joo in Sell Your Haunted House. Excellent example. Her storyline and relationship with the FL added depth and heart to the drama.
Many thanks, your first solo article is excellent and touches on a topic that I hadn’t thought about before. Your timing is perfect for me. I am rewatching Kill Me, Heal Me and the female lead shows her strength in gratitude for the adoptive family that saved her and loved her. Because of her gratitude she is able to overcome her childhood tragedy and move forward. I look forward to reading more of your articles in the future. Good work!
I've been watching for years, and I reached a point last year to steer clear of particular screenwriters. I should've…
I agree. Like you I have started keeping track of screenwriters to save myself some grief in the long run. Unfortunately I bent the rule for AoS, big mistake. I also lament the darker elements invading many newer Kdramas. If I want reality I’ll watch the news. So I too have been watching some older dramas while waiting for something new to capture my interest.
I think the best piece of advice is possibly rewatching the kdramas that you once loved! Truthfully, I am also…
I agree. I am rewatching Kill Me, Heal Me and enjoying it just as much as I did the first time. It is a great antidote to some of the disappointing dramas that I’ve seen recently.
A very timely article for me. Maybe I’m in a slump or maybe I’ve become more jaded after years of drama watching. I used to never drop a drama and now I probably drop as many as I finish. Most recently I dropped Alchemy of Souls. I loved the actors and the setting, but the sloppy storytelling and repetitive flashbacks finally got to me. I am a binge watcher and now there is a trend to cut even 12 episode dramas in half and release two seasons. This definitely dampens my enthusiasm. I will continue to watch Kdramas, but I realize that the ones that really excite me will be few and far between.
Thank you both for this witty study of Dramaland uniforms. Uniforms in my country are rare unless you go to Catholic or private school, so school uniforms are one of the first things I noticed in my early drama watching. I loved Park So Dam’s uniform in Cinderella and the Four Knights, and how it factored into the story from time to time. School uniforms are also helpful for me to follow the story in dramas that play with time like Someday or One Day. No matter how they are used, school uniforms add to my viewing experience, because it is so different from where I live.
Again, thank you for your hard work. I always look forward to reading the editorials on MDL. The editorials and member reviews are what keep this site from being just another Media/PR outlet.
I look forward to reading more of your articles in the future. Good work!
