Question: who’s your favorite supporting character(s)?
For me it's a tie. Court Lady Seo and San's Bodyguard. Both did their parts in an unforgettable way and I totally looked forward to their scenes each and every time.
I don't buy the whole emotional cheating is worse thing personally but I think it is a mute point because I know…
True ....the emotional cheating is usually where it starts sometimes. That part was a little far fetched to me especially given their obvious attraction to each other but maybe the writer wanted to somehow sanitize her character for what is to come.
Just imagine how many times over the course of Chan Young and Jin Seok's relationship she has asked him to leave his wife for her and how many times he has evaded giving her an answer. What did that do to her physical and mental health? Add to that how long has his wife put up with his indifference. At this point I am wondering why she is still with a man that is so obviously cold to her when she knows he would rather be somewhere else. Not that I should compare them as cheating is cheating, but emotional cheating to me is so much worse than physical because there are no clear boundaries. In their case, neither is willing to give up on their emotional intimacy attachment nor do they seem to care about what his wife is going through since as Chan Young said, "I met him first." smh.
My only complaint was Mi Jo and Seon Woo were so awkward it was hard to watch. Couldn't we have had them hit it…
Same....I waited for this drama for soooo long and find they have ZERO chemistry even though I kept looking for it the entire episode. I am thinking maybe they should have flipped the MLs-Jin Seok with Mi Jo and Seon Woo with Chan Young, probably a better fit. Also I remember reading that this would have been the Korean version of the Chinese Nothing But Thirty but 5 minutes into it, Nope not even close.
I keep hearing about those face masks... don´t you get scared you will get a pimple like Kim Bok Joo did in Weightlifting…
Oooh....how did you know? So I made my sister who is pretty fearless the guinea pig figuring if she had a reaction so would I. We both ended up huge fans of the dewy look. Tee Hee!
TBH, I am pretty neutral about the PPLs preferring to view them as a necessary evil for my ad free enjoyment but I do get the giggles with the cars especially in the C Dramas when there is no shortage of the one particular brand and every variation of it and how they laser in on the make and model in case we missed it. I do remember how both PPL and PPCs were parodied in Be Melodramatic which was hilarious. Personally though, PPCs are absolutely 100% responsible for my newfound obsession with facial masks. Who knew my skin needed this much hydration. As a result, I can't keep them in stock fast enough. 😀
IKR! Same with Would You Like a Cup of Coffee. Until I watched that drama, had no clue how involved the whole…
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. There is nothing earth shattering about it and it's mostly dialoge driven but the feels were just warm and cozy. Be warned though my only bummer is there is absolutely no romance in the storyline with the ML except between him and the coffee.
Oh the perils of an office romance. While I detest loud public outbursts, I have to say Ki Joon had that slap coming to him and more. Just when I thought JHK was a bit too cool considering the man she was about to marry dumped her and married the woman he was cheating with, the dam burst. What an ass he really was/is though! and why does her sister always call her with bad news during work hours LOL. So far the drama is not bad and I was happy to see Oh Dae Hwan and his 10 carat smile from TRS again. Not yet willing to hedge my bets on this being my second favorite Park Min Young drama after WTWIF. I need to see more but so far so good.
I love dramas where you can learn something new. It is interesting how forecasting weather works. And among all…
IKR! Same with Would You Like a Cup of Coffee. Until I watched that drama, had no clue how involved the whole coffee brewing process was from the viewpoint of a Barista.
Hey, could someone please explain the IMF crisis? I did Google it, but it was too jargon-y for me.
Just from memory of a macro economics class (which I absolutely hated), South Korea's exporting economic boom which had been in place well into the 1980s began to show cracks in the late 1990s due to global competition. Then in 1997 a financial crisis hit Southeast Asian countries. Since South Korean's economy was mostly run by chaebol conglomerates, some of the larger ones were forced into bankruptcy partly due to their huge borrowing practices and mismanagement. Countries like the US and Japan refused to continue to provide loans to South Korea around this time as there was no confidence in them paying back on their debts in addition to holding little to no reserves. Other international countries pulled out their investments. Rather than facing an all out sovereign default, South Korea accepted a bailout of ($58 billion) from the IMF which is essentially a global banking institution made up of several countries whose sole purpose is to prevent a financial crisis and maintain stability. Of course the organization itself is not without it's problems as along with their aid/loan comes a very high interest rate and very strict repayment conditions. However, by 1999 the country's economy was back on track but the social fabric of the country to this day has not recovered. The middle class was the largest hit due to austerity measures as the South Korean government opted to use the loan to repay their foreign lenders while shifting the IMF's repayment requirements to the South Korean citizens. Hence, factories were forced to close and people lost jobs overnight. Blue and white collar jobs became insolvent but for the most part, those that were able to persevere were the ones that were educated or who were career oriented. What we saw in episode 2 was an example of the devastation that the families were feeling from those 2 men who confronted Yi Jin looking for answers from his father. Hope this help s a little to explain the crisis.
I like that they (leads) are slowly building a friendship and the push/pull, love/hate trope will not drag out for 3-4 more episodes and please God!, no love triangles (at least not between Hee Do and Yi Jin). Loving the pace so far. Yi Jin seems to be a bag of balled up emotions and I hate that he has to shoulder his family's financial burden without their reach but I thought it was very brave of him to shamelessly admit to Yu Rim that he is scared and afraid.
If Reply series and School had a child would be this drama omg I’M LOVING!!!! Seriously I didn’t expected…
I was a bit skeptical that she could pull off this role since everything else I have seen her in she has been more on the reserved side but WOWZA, she has pleasantly surprised me.
Never have I watched a movie where I wanted to slap the screenwriter as much as I did this. What was the point of taking us along on a beautiful journey of a man who despite all odds never wavering on his love for his woman and leaving us with such a shitty ending? I mean I have been disappointed before with the final outcome of a drama but this was on a whole different level and yes I am ranting so pissed I am. We went through him finding her again after she had all but given up on living and accepted her fate and reminding her of her promise to him to not get sick (I think that was the beginning of my ugly cries). Powerful scene that was. We went through our anger at the selfishness of his parents who finally came around and did the right thing, albeit they could have involved themselves a lot earlier, but whatever. We went through her successful bone marrow transplant and then BAM! she is left alone again. So whose sins was he paying for? His parents, his grandparents? My only solace is in knowing how risky allogeneic transplants can be that perhaps her long-term outcome would not be that great and they could be together sooner in the afterlife because there is no way her days would be sunny and rosy after this much trauma. You can best be sure that I will be avoiding any of his work in the future if this maudlin way of storytelling is his signature style. Arrgh!
There are so many things to love about TRS. The chemistry first grabs you, then it’s the music, the cinematography,…
I swear I am having to give myself a swift talking to not to hit the re-watch button a third time (just in case I missed anything the first two times). 😅 I just have a hard time envisioning anyone else playing his TRS role. So wish I could be the one interviewing him. I have a million questions that the enquiring mind needs to know.

IKR...I am thinking of rewatching Just Between Lovers to confirm if its just a natural reflex or just a little something extra he gave us for this role 🤭
