I read the book and during the 5 year time lapse she barely leaves the palace and the doors are closed to everyone. The people inside like the way she manages things. And the empress and emperor are grateful.

Originally, CSS did not leave the palace without authorization. She went on a short trip with Qiqi and her brothers to get General Wan. Her family was not arrested. Her father was not missing. She was not even anywhere near Pen Zhen's castle or where the war was going on. So the main culprits remain the same but that part of the story was changed. More action added.

I think if she had spoken less and had not humiliated Consort Yue and the Empress, the Emperor would not have to resort to this. But she was way out of control... And like any child you need to hit them in their weekness. So I agree. Now is it fair, of course not, but to be an Emperor you have to be mean as well, otherwise you would have a puppet like the Crown Prince.

Oh man just saw the previews for next tuesday... The script was definitely changed... Looks way more exciting... Todays episodes were the Bomb!! Finally the 5th Princess got her comeunppance. Lol and YS saying he will record everything carefully.... Not sure how I feel about his current behavior....
