This show is just super comforting and cute <3
It also doesn't have that over-the-top comedic style that other casual japanese dramas have; it is simply a very warming slice-of-life romantic drama.

I love that Suzume is opening himself slowly but surely and that Keishi is not pushy about it, he just knows when to press Suzume's buttons to make him move forward without him feeling overwhelmed. I don't know, I just feel like they care deeply about each other and are the right fit for the other hehe.

This series was just PHENOMENAL.

- Lead couple was just on point. The chemistry was chemistrying, they were loving, open, playful, sexy, emotional... they just had everything, a very complete and healthy couple. PeterPond just devoured these roles.
- Filming and photography were also very good, it looked like a high-quality production. The high-angle shots were especially memorable to me. Moreover, the wardrobe choices were just perfect for each character, they all looked beautiful.
- The story was not super innovative, but it just delivered. No weird plot twists or things left unexplained, it all followed a pretty reasonable line that left you wondering but also understanding everything.
- Also, I could never NOT mention Wenai. Ty made a secondary character into an icon with his impecable attire, efficient responses and playfully polite interactions with the rest of the characters. He was truly a gem!

Nothing else to say, except that I hope PeterPond surprise us with a new series together in the near future <3

I get where you’re coming from, but I actually see it differently. For me, the love interest doesn’t feel…
I was not talking about a legal binding contract and all verbal consent, I completely understand that consent can be given in many other ways which are non verbal. Also, I never said I haven't watched any other dramas - or enjoyed them, for all that matters - where one of the leads forcefully kissed the other party. I know it is something widely used in all types of dramas, BL or not.

To me, in this particular case of Secret Lovers, we are not dealing with just a sudden/surprise kiss, Tuo literally shoved his hand in Jun Xi's pants at the first chance :/ Even though he ended up accepting it, doesn't mean it was all pleasant for him? Jun Xi literally told him "wait" and grabbed his hand for him to stop. Coming from his best friend who is obviously much bigger and stronger than him and also, clearly seeing that Jun Xi is mostly a people-pleaser and doesn't have a strong temper... I don't know, it just felt rushed and unnatural, especially at the start of the series.
I would have liked it better if they played it like a betting game, same as when they were younger, and Jun Xi ended up enjoying it. But well, I just happened to dislike the way the events unfolded in this first two episodes.

Also, I haven't dropped it solely because of that, but also because I find Chance's acting stiff (maybe it is according to character, I don't know) and not very charming.

Of course, this is all my personal opinion, as well as my likes and dislikes, which don't have to match the rest of the community - I never expected to.

Honestly, this show is pure delight. Both couples are delivering what they have to deliver and the period atmosphere is really enticing :)
GreatInn had already made me fall in love with their dynamics and chemistry in Wandee Goodday, but here they have reached yet another level. Superb!
I am getting myself ready to cry for the tragic parts which are surely coming our way :'(

I started watching it, but I disliked the whole vibe of this drama. Han Tuo is super pushy and looks as stiff and expressionless as a stick, he is not even the "charming" kind of pushy. To be honest, I just feel bad for the poor Jun Xi, who will clearly not have any time or space to process his feelings.

I was hoping for a story in which Han Tuo would win Jun Xi's heart while pretending to teach him how to flirt, but nope, we just got forced touching and kissing and a rushed confession in the first two eps :/

So yeah, I think it's a drop for me.

The phone-call taking was just too much... Like, how do you think Jom is going to feel or act next time he sees Jun? (if he is "allowed" to see him lol). And then it is the grabbing without consent for me, I would feel soooo attacked and angry at that point.
Sorn basically did what he thought could work to make Jun go back to him, but he didn't really change any of his ways nor did he reflect on his past behaviour. As soon as he got the chance, he got back to his old habits. Like in the teaser for the next ep, when he says "if you sleep in this other room, am I supposed to come and knock every time I want to have sex with you?". YES, SIR, YOU SHOULD. IT IS CALLED "CONSENT" (another revolutionary concept, like you said).

So many many things that are a no-no for me. Sorn is plain toxic and abussive behaviour in all its splendour. He could change if he wanted to visit a therapist and do some shadow work, but I don't see that happening, tbh.

Let's hope for a brighter future for both Boat and Oat, hopefully together in a different series with different roles and better written <3

I was looking for your comment and thank the gods I found it. As always, it didn't disappoint!
I am so tired of this trope of "possessive boyfriend equals great boyfriend" that I can't even articulate anymore. Like, guys, we are in the 21st century, come on!
It seems the episode went something like this...

How to win a guy back in one week, by P'Sorn:
- Interrogate every mutual friend until they give in and tell you something.
- Stalk your guy at work.
- Grab him without his consent at any given opportunity with the excuse of "explaining" how you feel, so he can't run away.
- Walk over any boundary your guy sets, be it kissing, visiting, touching or anything in between.
- Take his phone calls as if the phone belongs to you, of course snapping at any person on the other end of the line, especially if it's another man.
Your guy will come back to your arms in no time!

For everyone saying that P'Sorn is super romantic and whatnot... sorry, but not in my books. The only thing Sorn should have done since THE BEGINNING was what he did at the end of the episode: calmly explain how he feels and since when, and giving Jun space to think, mentally AND physically. That was the way to win Jun back without all the possessiveness and extra flare.

Anyways, just hoping for Boat and Oat (love that their names rhyme lol) to get a better series and script next time, so that Boat can show how sweet he can be. Basically, what he has been doing in all their events and off-camera moments.

For reaaaalss!! hahahahhaa. Intervention time~ I, as a friend, would be like: "throw the whole man away asap" (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
I also hate that Jun is being treated as a literal kid by everybody around him :/ Like... he is twenty-something years old and exploring his sexuality, and not even in a sstrange or dangerous way, so.... why all the fuss?? I mean, it is weird. Well, what is NOT weird at this point?

This is by far the most original comment I have read in here. Kudos to you hahahahaha loved it!

Also, if this was real, your friends would be telling you to leave that toxic-ass situationship and giving Sorn the bombastic side eye for the rest of his life, not asking you if you would be with him if he asked you out.

There most certainly is a plot and character development - and more than in most BLs which have absolutely none…
I guess so! Sometimes it is difficult to translate a book narrative into screen narrative so it makes the same impact.
I got very frustrated at Sorn and his possessiveness and toxic behaviour once again while watching episode 9, but I was really happy that Jun finally put him in his place. I completely agree that Oat did an amazing job in ep 9, especially in the dramatic scenes. The scene when he screams at Sorn and FINALLY sets things straight was just great.

Thank you for the reply and the insight! I partially agree and understand, though I still think it is a bit too much for the amount of episodes we have so far. All of this taking into account this is a series and not real life, of course. I am more than aware that this kind of situations happen very often in real life and tend to last months -and some even years-. However, I think that cyclic situation is difficult to translate into a show without it becoming repetitive.

Can you elaborate further? Maybe I am indeed missing something, because the only plot I see is small office stuff and Sorn's inability to admit his own feelings for Jun...
As for character development, in 8 whole eps neither have I seen Jun being able to stand up to Sorn for more than 5 min straight nor have I seen Sorn communicating his feelings other than "I want you and I want you now". Agreed that he is getting a bit more worried about Jun and acts more affectionate towards him in some scenes (like getting the rhino plushie for him), but overall it is the eternal trope of "I like you but let me show you by acting like an asshole, like middle-school boys do".
For example, supposedly, Sorn was "super worried" about Jun when he got the body rashes due to the plants and even scolded his own brother for letting it happen, but when they got up so that Jun could shower to feel better, he instead got all spicy with him first thing. Like, where is your concern then? I would have understood if Sorn had got into the shower with him to "wash him" or something (I genuinely thought that was what was going to happen), but he simply gave it to him then and there without even letting him shower lol.
I don't know, like I said, maybe I am missing something or maybe I am just too tired of the whole "toxic bad boy with a traumatic past" trope and I can't see the good things.

Great spicy scenes, no plot whatsoever.
I mean, I have been watching 8 full episodes of Sorn's toxic antics and Jun just getting persuaded to do whatever, with no character development at all....
Cannot deny the chemistry between the actors though, that's just fire. I hope that next time they are given a better series, because it is clearly not their problem.

I agree wholeheartedly. To me, the ex's excuse didn't make any sense plot-wise. Like: "I was falsely accused of SA, so let me be friends with benefits with a younger guy but god forbid me from dating him! I am still traumatized!". Please, make it make sense hahahaha.

The series is full of them, tbh :(( If you are triggered by them, I recommend you not to watch it or at least…
I do not remember exactly because I binge-watched seasons 1 and 2 during these past few days. I just know there are a lot of violent scenes in both seasons and, I would say, in every episode.
Towards the end of season 1, probably in the last couple of episodes, there were a couple of scenes that were pretty hard to watch, not going to lie :(
So be careful with the end of the drama!

guys this drama is bl?? i saw so many comments related to bl
It is not BL, it is mostly portrayed as bromance. However, in my opinion, some of the feelings between the characters can be understood as leaning towards "liking" or something similar.
Also, the director/producer/writer (I don't remember who exactly) said that there was definitely an element or feeling of first love between two of the characters.
So, to answer your question, it is not a fully open BL and it doesn't have any scenes that portray it, but you can read between the lines in some parts.

Came with high expectations and left disappointed...
This felt like a forced rollercoaster of emotions and toxic behaviour (except for Sunghyeon). Moreover, the acting was not that great (Suhyeon's actor was just shouting and angry-speaking left and right) and the story in general was overly complicated in unnecessary ways.
On a positive note, I really liked the chemistry between Daon and Sunghyeon and their kisses were reaaally well portrayed.
