Whoa, I thought that was old news already. Why would their fans bring up something up that has nothing to do with their works in recent times? Did a rumour about them two, incite such debate again?

(I totally was ready to accept that any slightly gay themed shows were going to be entirely banned in China since the tightening of regulations. But I might hold out hope for this one, fingers crossed!)

Hi! :) I normally don't reply to comments on these kind of issues because a constructive conversation (with respect and understanding) requires establishing solid context prior, which is hard with the way this platform is used for- anyone can just scroll past without paying too much attention.

But I see you're also female, and genuinely think you come from a good place :) and want to understand what others have say about this matter. So, I'll try to have a go at responding to your question.

Your point on media's pervasive influence on socially conditioning people to internalise toxic stereotypes (e.g. on gender equality) is definitely valid.

But, the media we are exposed to, isn't just limited to kdramas or popular movies - depending on your culture and location in the world, the lens through which the news is reported and the underlying stance on major events, is often left unsaid but insinuated.

Of course you're already somewhat aware of this, from your observations of what is acceptable by both genders, in the world around us.

Especially in conservative countries, where rigid gender roles continue to endure and is revered as the only socially acceptable way to present yourself.

However there are different facets to presenting ourselves in public - if we only focus on the surface level, yes these acts where women in India can slap men and justify men paying for them, should be treated with admonishment.

I won't go off topic and point out horrendous acts men in India can do to women and get with easily (good examples have already been given in replies above), but we should ask the question why we (both genders) are taught women should hold men to these unreasonable expectations you've given.

Don't you think these behaviours of men paying for women, or taking slaps when women are dissatisfied, tie in with how men in conservative countries view themselves?

Stay with me here.

(1) I assume you've commonly heard how historically women have been moving only between playing an obedient daughter at home, to a house wife at her husband's home.
(2) This may seem to have changed on the surface level, with economic development granting women with purchasing power to consume whatever they like, and the opportunity to choose their own professional careers.

So the idea of women continuing to be oppressed (especially in conservative countries) seems to be in stark contrast to how women can belittle men in your example.

------------But in both cases, the female has been objectified. I know, crazy right? What kind of extreme ideas am I spouting?

You may hear parents teaching their sons from a young age, to be a gentlemen and to treat women, children, and the elderly with honour and respect. God forbid they hit these people who are "weaker" than themselves. Right? (Note, women are not.)

Just like how we all want to believe we're good people, so we continue to act in ways that reaffirm this self-belief, every time this son performs an act that aligns with how 'good' men should be, it feeds into their projected self-image (and pride).

But while this traditional chivalry seems to be well-intentioned, it is destructive like how your observations implied society's 'mistreatment' of men, because it involves blind pride. (If you want to dig deeper, google 'toxic masculinity'.)

There's a conditional exchange between the emotional sacrifice made for chivalry and the receiver - eg. between men and women.

Simply put, it's common to find men thinking they should place their sense of self-worth on being able to provide for others, and women should fulfil their duty to support the man. Therefore for some men, their self-value can depend on other people's acceptance.

When this doesn't happen, like how you observed with increasing female narratives, cases of domestic violence and rape can occur, in order to regain "honour" or maybe just because women deserve it.

--------------This is the other facet I was talking about earlier - as long as women stay within their boundaries, they can behave however they want.

There is a glass ceiling to how much women can demand from society, to be on the same playing field for the same opportunities as men, before being knocked down by presumptions that women should "stay in their place".

How this is played out in dramas, can be distorted because dramas are there to fulfil out our female fantasy and doesn't necessarily depict reality.

It's about what heterosexual men feel entitled to in society, but requires others to be accommodating for that to happen.

This is systemic discrimination, where surface level behaviour like how women act appearance-wise, doesn't necessarily change the societal structure that allows deeply engrained old-fashioned values to persist.

--------------Finally, coming back to your statement "all genders matter", I understand your moral disposition to demand equality among everyone, I want that too. In an ideal world, where no one is oppressed and are treated fairly, then yes no one gender is superior to the other. No one race is superior to the other.

But it isn't. Women are not equal to men, and I'm talking about systemic changes that are needed to change that. Therefore, people need to be made aware of "women matter" to think deeper about the issue, because in many invisible situations (often swept under the carpet), they are not. In fact, even in the media, for a long time, a chauvinistic male perspective continues to dominate narratives of events.

Feel free to criticise because I may have wrongly assumed about your topic. :)

Title Immortality Spoiler
Hey! Can you please cover this as a spoiler!!!Um so I watched WOH LONG AGO so my memories are kind of vague. Ah…
2.how the people of ghost valley again become followers of WKX when they all betrayed him and starting working under scorpions??
3.how all the ghost people came to rescue ZZS when he was captured by prince jin's assistand commander duan peng ju??

Because after Scorpion king and WKX's interest aligned for a short while, Scorpion made sure to set the scene for his foster father's (Zhao jing) downfall. And for that to happen, WKX can't be incriminated by Zhao jing's initial questioning in front all the different sects. So the major ghosts were instructed by Scorpion to act as though they don't know him.

You're referring to the scene where WKX saves ZZS after escaping from torture, and how the major ghosts turned up to help him? That was a ruse by the major ghosts, who still didn't feel it was an opportune time yet to completely let their façade down and betray WKX. They simply followed WKX's lead in that scene, that was all. Remember, it was established early on, that all these ghost are only willing to follow their leader for their own interests. Later, as you know, once they could roam under the sun and got a taste of freedom, they immediately secretly gathered together in a room, to formulate a plan to leave WKX's control of them.

GUYS I finally found the leaked (3sec lol) video of the ghost wedding scene: https://twitter.com/LuoYunxiYunxi/status/1490763901092638720

I would feel so satisfied if this scene will be kept in the released version of the drama >_< BUT I have a deep set premonition that this scene will be edited in a way that will just flippantly pass by quickly, too rapid to provoke any emotional reaction. Also, perhaps there won't be any background music to highlight the importance of this scene :( I guess maybe I'm asking for too much.
