Pleased to see him with a solid role in The Hope [Dec 2023] ... Loved him in his 2 previous roles, and hoping he'll continue to improve and gain male lead traction ...
Agree with the comments here that this is pretty average for this particular plot type. ... actually watched it months ago but it was so "blah" that I forgot it. I've seen worse recently, tho... so ... [shrugs]
Not going to write a proper review, but will recommend if you enjoy a relatively fast-paced slice of life / romance with some humor and low-key mystery involved. The plot is a VR game of people on a farm in ancient China where the FL has to resolve a number of problems and make 1000 taels in order to complete the game. Actors and story made for enjoyable watching, though I admit the pace was slow enough in parts for me to watch on 2x without missing any serious details.
Highly recommend if you like either of the leads, but the supporting cast was also solid.
One of my fave support actors .... excellent in both Romance on the Farm and Hilarious Family ... have liked him since his You Are My Destiny days ....
The fight scene in the first episode is so epic I've played it over a dozen times.... lol ... The leads are super, but I also really like Hou Dong and wish we could see him in a complex lead role ... he could totally handle it!
I don't know why this sounds like a compliment to the drama ... this plot was one of the OGs of so many of those…
BTW, I did go read your review, and I thought it was a very fair one.
Looking at some of the negatives reminded me of how much script writing for television dramas has evolved since then. Wrong Carriage, Right Groom, with all of its fillers and "in your face" development was pretty much par for the course in 2000.

KML .... I'm entirely accepting of your and other people's opinions ... My point was that when the original was performed, it wasn't old and predictable, because a lot of the now-predictable elements were just being developed at that time. The fact that the plot is predictable now is a backhand compliment to the lasting influence of that original and others from that era. Doesn't have anything to do with it being better than other dramas... personally I wouldn't say it's a "better" drama even in its original form... in fact it's quite silly. But I'm of the opinion that there's a place for quite silly dramas of this kind, which is why they keep getting made.
Honestly Iām glad its over. Last episodes I fast forwarded so much. š“š“š“š“ Will write my full review…
I don't know why this sounds like a compliment to the drama ... this plot was one of the OGs of so many of those predictable stupid plots that have become standard Cdrama fare .... kml ...
A remake has to be as good or even better than the original because otherwise who would be happy watching the…
I watched both and enjoyed both. Each version has its lights. However, I went into the current version highly aware that censorship practices in current Cent would lead to a lot of "toning down" of the more "in your face" and ribald aspects of the original.
I'm not surprised to see the douban score on this drama is 3.8. I enjoyed this at first but had to drop it because…
I find douban really hypocritical on this, since the original, with all those same side couples, is revered. So many times I find it hard to understand what standard douban raters are applying. Though, if I'm being fair about it, the people who loved the original are basically old enough to be the parents of the current generation of raters, so there is that.

If so, he's aged beautifully ...
Does something romantic develop between Xia Meng Yao and Luo Fei? TIA
