This series feels akin to Reply 1988 (the only one of the series I've watched), but the FL seems to be trying…
Are you currently on first ep? If yes, then you will see how wonderful Shao Xue is as a person as you go through. She's a tomboy, immature, smart, bright, friendly, loyal and selfless. She cares for everyone and respects the elders. That's why the elders adore her. She is willing to give up her dream for the man she loves. She listens and supports the people around her, not just her friends. She is loved by everyone. She's the typical of high school girl growing up into an adult without losing her positive energy.

This drama is better than Reply 1988 bcs there's no violence. It shows the character's growth as well as the realistic things that happen along the journey, such as exams, graduation, separation, sickness, internship, dreams, even cultural heritage.

I hate Mo Hai. He only brings trouble to Shao Xue and Sunian, and he keeps on clinging to Shao Xue. Who are you anyway?

When I thought Shiyin is changing slowly for Wu Huan, she doesn't. She doesn't need a boyfriend, she needs a butler. And she complained of how the reality after they started dating is harsh? The beautiful picture is ruined? even Shao Xue said Shiyin is at fault for not treating Wu Huan right.

So they're dating for 2 years and now she's in the final year. That means it's currently 2009 πŸ€”

You mean the villain in black hoodie robe? That is Lang Gan, the heavenly emperor 7000 years ago. His hatred,…
This Lang Gan is a maniac. After losing his wife, Bai Wei, he learned Mirror Technique and Split Technique which are dangerous and have backlashes. That caused him to have another personality that is controlling his body. He knows about heaven and earth and ancient spells bcs he lives for 7000+ years. For him everything is just a game. He is a manipulator.

This is a xuanhuan drama. Xuanhuan and xianxia dramas have gods, immortals, mystical creatures, legends, fantasy, spiritual powers. Dragon, phoenix, mermaid, kirin usually appear in xuanhuan drama. In this drama, we have normal humans (the citizens), humans who practice spiritual magic which can make them aging slowly (almost like immortal or super humans, but they do die), merman, and gods. Bai Ying, Zhen Lan, Xi Jing, Yu Huan are the spiritual power practitioners so they live longer than humans but they're not immortals. Na Sheng is human. The merman can live thousand years, but they won't get reincarnated. The goddess in the last ep is a heavenly goddess. The merman worship the dragon god in change for his protection and power. Lang Gan isn't a god. He thinks he is a god. With the power of Mirror Technique, he could give power to someone else. But like I said, those spiritual practitioners aren't immortal. They just aged slowly.

Li YiFeng dramas almost never have good ending. Either it's straight up sad ending or confusing open ending. None…
Seriously??? That's shocking. Does he like those kind of endings? Meanwhile this is the first time Yuqi's drama gets sad ending, although her character in AoL got sad ending too, but she wasn't the main character there.

Honestly instead of that open ending where poor Bai Ying just kept waiting for Su Mo, it would have been better…
Exactly! If they changed a lot from the novel, why not change the ending as well? Giving such an ambiguous ending doesn't help. Some script writers had their brains swapped with their butts. They changed everything, but suddenly made the ending the same with the novel. It would've been better if both of them die and people worship them. Even Bai Ying said how wonderful it is to be buried side by side by the one you love.

The people who didn't do much get the best rewards. It's like giving false messages: the more you sacrifice the more you will lose. The pain of watching historical cdramas is you tend to get sad ending 😭

You know I was going to recommend this drama to my friend, and quite frankly, this story started off promising…
Su Mo has been wanting to be with Bai Ying, living together in Biluo Sea, that's why he worked so hard to make it happen. He also tried to find a way to make her stay alive. And suddenly he made a wish to turn into rain and disappear????? "Without me you have to be happy". HOW??? Su Mo promised her to appear once a year. So she should be satisfied with that? Or does he think Bai Ying is a human and will eventually find a new love, unlike the merman? The sudden changes in Su Mo's decision is absurd considering how much he loves her.

In the end, what is the goal of the man in robe? Why did the ring choose Na Seng and for what purpose?
You mean the villain in black hoodie robe? That is Lang Gan, the heavenly emperor 7000 years ago. His hatred, jealousy and ambition caused him to lose his wife. And the merman had to pay the price since their sea emperor fell in love with Lang Gan's wife. Lang Gan basically wanted to rule Yun Huang and kill the next sea emperor.

The heavenly ring chose Na Sheng by mistake, but that might also bcs she is destined to be the mediator between two countries. Since the real owner of the ring was still sleeping and lost his power, he couldn't wear the ring.

Question: I am on episode 11 and wondering about when Sumo learns that Bai Ying doesn't hate him and actually…
Bcs what she says is different from what she does. She just divert her cares for him, but he's not the type that easily gives up.

What kind of a sh!tty ending is that? I would have accepted a sad ending where Sumo died or a well deserved HEA…
It's just like any other historical dramas who love to rush everything and give an open ending. Now my only consolation is to watch Yuqi's other ongoing drama before I rewatch this.

HAPPY ENDING YAY!!!
Are you sure? i think it's more like open ending. Su Mo only appears once a year. He finally appeared after 3 years of waiting and I don't think it's permanent 😭

What's with that ending??? Is it happy end or sad end??? I cried from halfway through and after the sloppy and rushed editing, they showed a slow motion reunion and it ended. After three years waiting he finally appears. They're not Hikoboshi and Orihime who can only meet once a year πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ whose power he's using to make him appear? I don't think his appearance means permanent too. As if the writer tried to give us happier ending than the novel, but want us to figure it ourselves 😭
How could you, Su Mo? How could you? You kept it secret and gave your life to her to make her alive, ALONE. That's a torture, not happiness 😭 like everyone got a happy ending, but not our couple, the ones who suffered the most.

Do we know what Sumo did when they are on the bridge, marking something on Bai Ying. There is not subs yet so…
He casted a star crossed oath spell. It's a spell where the caster and the object share a life. So basically he gave his life to Bai Ying...

The English translation was a huge disappointment and ruined what was left of this drama.
Don't watch it on dramacool. Watch it on croton or viki.

Novel is a fantasy one. Sometimes we have to suspend disbelief. They are mostly supposed to look feminine. Like…
I'm more curious if a merman falls in love with another merman like Han Zhou. What will be the gender? πŸ˜…

Tonight is the finale. Since this is most likely have sad ending, I might need a towel instead 😭 really hope for a miracle bcs just like Su Mo said "I can't believe fate is so cruel to me". But I will rewatch this for sure, after MoET finishes airing.

Gosh, editing is a mess in ep 42.. don’t understand why the drama wasted so much time on the frivolous Na Sheng…
Indeed. they put everything in ep 42. First, the number of episodes went from 47 to 43. Expected a lot of abrupt scenes getting cut and paste, just like the first 5 eps. Then the drama wasted too much time from too many conversations, but lack progress or action. Suddenly everything is concluded in ep 42 and 43 πŸ˜₯ now I'm just hoping for a happy ending.
