I also wonder if there is something else going on.
First, they didn't directly show that he killed her mom. Everything was implied,like him coming out of her mom's room, the LCG finding her mom dead and the dagger CG gifted him bloodied.
Second, in one of the scene after LYY was kidnapped, LSM said something along the lines of "I have just lost LCG, do I have to lose LYY too?" Almost seemed like he was implying that he thinks of LCG as a daughter.

Probably a choice made by the writers/production to create suspense. Just didn't apply it well.

Agree completely with this. I really wish they at least tied the two "arcs" better. Everything after ep 17 made me wonder if it was a completely different story. CY and RZ didn't even give the slightest indication that they recognized each other...
