It was the same in the novel though. If anything, the 9 year old son was around a lot in the novel but the live adaptation only mentioned him in the end. LJ is a single father. But it seems like they added the info about the son at the very end to make it even more non bl. 😅

Personally, I think this one is better so far. I do continue to watch both though.

I am now officially crushing on the new actor Chen Muchi. He looks different than the typical pretty male leads and I like that uniqueness. 🥰

The first two episodes were so good. Excellent production and is visually beautiful. The story is interesting so far and there are funny moments. The fl is not annoying even though she may be childish. She's pretty funny. I can't wait for more episodes. 🥰

Bc his character is the same main character in Imperial Uncle, written by the same author, and that character is gay. Imperial Uncle is a BL novel, and it shares the same universe as Mystery of Zhang Gong (this non-bl novel). They basically cut out this character before airing.

Two outstanding actors for me in this drama are Jing Boran and Wang Duo. Both complex characters and the actors did great. Everyone else acting was acceptable, but these two were exceptional imo. I hope to see them in more costume dramas.

This drama is also now known as Lan Jue’s harem. 😂

The empress did have the baby switch at the ritual and right after the ritual was when the guy took the real prince to bury him alive. So cruel. Empress didn't think her son would live through his sickness so she was throwing him away. And Lan Jue and Shulin were sus 10 years ago. I feel sad for their friendship bc they really did count each other as confidants. Shulin drank the poisoned wine for Lan Jue. His feelings for Lan Jue wasn't fake. 😪

Yes, I was waiting for Guardians of the Lands but now I don’t even know if it will ever air. So sad. The two guys have excellent chemistry too.

Finally, get to watch Chen Muchi. He made 3 films and only this 1 is airing. 🥹

Also, Shulin drank poisoned wine for Lan Jue 10 years ago. That story was crazy. But thanks to that he became a doctor to heal himself. 😪

Shulin was such a big surprise to me and how much pain he endured made it hard for me to hate him as a villain in this drama. I feel sad for him and his tragic life. In the end, even his one confidant (Lan Jue) tried to stab him. Basically, everyone wanted him dead since he was an innocent baby. He might have been a great emperor if his mother wasn't so damn evil and pushed him to no end. Wang Duo is such an emotional actor and plays the character so well.

Shulin and Zhang Ping are not blood brothers. Shulin called ZP’s mom “godmother.” But yes, they grew up together. The bromance between Shulin and Lan Jue was cute and sad.

Oh, I adored the bromance they have in this drama. I didn't fully expect it but was pleasantly surprised by it. I thought they would have cut out all of those scenes. Lol.

Some people still think A League of Nobleman is an adaptation of a BL novel, so they expected a drama like Word of Honor or The Untamed bromance level. So they got disappointed. Well, it's not a BL novel. The amount of bromance in this drama is already surprising, given that we don't see many bromance cdramas anymore and bl/danmei is still on a soft ban.

I can't believe the injustice since he was a baby. Honestly, I felt so bad when Lan Jue and Zhang Ping lied about Shulin’s birthright. I know they had to ruin Shulin’s plan bc he was going to harm too many people but still. The empress dowager was too evil and pushed her son to no end. But like mom and son, they're both crazy. So sad.

They cut out Liu Xueyi’s scene?!! I didn't see him. I wonder if they cut him off bc his character is the Royal Uncle from the novel Imperial Uncle (which is a bl novel with shared universe as this novel). Now I’m curious.

Wang Duo played Shulin very well. That character is a villain but I couldn't help but feel his pain. 🤧
