Oh yes. Lan Jue and Shulin are very sus. They lived together for a while and looked like a couple. If their circumstances were different, then I think they would have remained together. Their chemistry is something else too. Between characters, I think Lan Jue/Mowen and Lan Jue/Shulin have the most chemistry even though PingLan is more of the popular ship.
Lan Jue told Zhang Ping that Shulin is his confidant and Zhang Ping didn't look too thrilled about that. He came home to ask Chen Chou what a confidant is. Lol. I smell the vinegar. Also, Lan Jue living with Shulin in that little house 10 years ago was very sweet and cute.
Yes, Lan Jue looks so precious when his hair is down when he waters his orchid flowers, makes tea, and reads at home. He's relaxed and isn't guarded, unlike when he's in his Imperial official clothing. He is such a complex character, and JBR played the character well.

Just based on the drama alone, Zhang Ping was 3 years old when he first met Lan Jue at Lan’s residence. I didn't think they were related. Unless they later explained that ZP’s mom have been with LJ’s dad for some years. I guess we shall see.
I'm on the PingLan’s ship, but I can't help but look fondly at Mowen too. The guy is super loyal to Lan Jue and is willing to kill anyone for him or die for him. The poor guy had teary eyes when Lan Jue was in trouble or sick. He has no ulterior motives. Just have a lot of love for Lan Jue. 🥺

Nobody in their right mind would read the synopsis, look at the genre tags, and the all-male cast list would watch this drama if they want a bg romance. They shouldn't be here to do any rating. This drama is a gem and I'm glad we finally got to watch it after almost 3 years of waiting.
