Can anyone explain what the grandma meant in the last eps where she was lying down on the bed and called Hui Qing after male lead's brother died?

And also why the female lead gave Huiqing a pill during an earlier ep

For novel readers, has the drama adapted the novel well? Are there any differences? How is the pacing? If I'm…
Almost all of the events in the book still happen (I think all of them happened actually), although some events have been arranged differently (like some got pushed forward, some got pushed back in time order. Situation might be slightly different and also sometimes they added extra people)

A lot of extra events (and some characters) got added that explained more the dynamics, the bonding and also the background of the characters. All in all I think the drama is the book but even better in the sense that they explored and utilized the characters better. What you see in the drama also mostly happened in the books so yes in that sense I do think its a good adaption. I would argue that the drama is better than the book personally (at least for me so dont come after me). One of the few where the drama made up of some loopholes of the book!

Also his dad was better at business than all of YuSen's uncles put together. Family rivalry. So Uncle BoKai teamed…
Nope in the book there was no mention of her outshining him when they were together at the very least. Book 2 does let on that her mom has always been the one with a better business sense and the way they portrayed and described the mom in the end as the successful one and her dad's slump makes the message rather clear of who the actual business star was. However it was LYS asking her mom to come back from business as she retired after the divorce. He asked her to work together with NXG to make Shuangyuan successful.

The mom and dad relationship described from NXG eyes was peaceful, very happy and her dad was super affectionate until the first love crashed all this. Thats why it came as a surprise to me that her mom proactively tried to regain back the shares for NXG and how she was a big part of the foundation + had a lot of conflicts with her dad in the drama. But this was a very good change as it made a better transition towards her mom now trying to make a comeback. It also aligns perfectly with her described character in the book and how she was able to decisively divorce. She is no pushover, she clearly knows what she wants and what is good or not. Good changes made in the drama, really like it:)!

Because his dad was from a poor background. The mom insisted on marrying him. The family didnt like that.
If we really have to argue for this

The first comment said that LYS mom and dad got married even though her family didnt like him being poor causing them to be outcasts. To me it implied that their marriage was rejected by the mom's family.

I responded to that since that was not true and gave explanation about their marriage which actually was smooth (for which I meant that both families had no problems prior and accepted the marriage, yes even the grandpa) further enriched with events that eventually were also covered in the drama. However my main argument was that LYS dad was promising, their marriage was accepted on both sides and the reason why he got accepted into an affluent family was because of his capabilities. The same capabilities that caused his downfall (this downfall covered in the ski resort by LYS mom and NXG uncle)

Kinara responded "I dont think the show ever said that LYS had a bad marriage"

I then responded that they did not have a bad marriage neither did the mom "insist on marrying" (which was my main point) .

It all boils down to me trying to tell people that no they werent outcasts because the mom's family rejected their marriage which first comment said. In fact it was accepted on both sides and that was never explained in the show.

I dont get what is so wrong with me trying to give a bit more background information that was not explained in dramas but by the way you already semi try to attack me with "we did get an explanation" and "that person did not get your point" I already understand that I should just shut up and hold this information for myself. This would be my last comment in this comment section. Have fun everyone with watching the drama, sincerely!! I

I think they gave a lot of nice twists in the drama! The book felt very onedimensional and especially Zhuang Xu persona felt really bland and unexplaina le (except the very last side story chapter which gave a little insight about his regrets from his perspective)

Book 1 was very focused on LYS and NXG unraveling the car accident.

Book 2 actually was set to break LYS and NXG apart but the author decided to not do it in the end, and focused on the business drama that is currently the main focus from the most recent eps! I think thats why Zhuang Xu felt like just a name in the book (since he would have played a much bigger role if LYS X NXG broke up), but here in the drama you can see more of him.

They also added a lot of new events, like the skiing parts! And also ordered some events differently (LYS grandpa banquet was actually the reveal of the LYS X NXG relationship for NXG side of her family including her mom). Lots more is done differently but I think all the main events are still set in stone and therefore the main outcomes as well:)

Its quite surprising since Gu Man's novel usually follows the books to the T with little to no changes. Shine on me has been a surprise every ep even for me who has read the book quite a few times during the years:))
(In a very positive way!)

If you look at what Im replying to you would see that I was explaining they did not have a bad marriage, neither did the mom "insist" o marrying.

Both families gave consent even though one was poor and the other was rich. And that was not explained in the drama:)

Could anyone who has read the book tell what happens with the dumb dad, the scheming first love, and her daughter?…
I feel like the drama is going off a different path.

Her mom left the dad because of him wanting to take care of his first love. Her dad has always loved her mom and never cheated in any way, but felt the need to take care of his "sick first love". I think you could see it as a Zhuang Xu never waking up and always believing Rong's side of the story equivalent.

His first love came back sick and never "recovered". His dad kept promising he would only take care of her until she was fine, but time passed and it was years at that point. He didnt cheat, but felt compelled to help.

In the drama it leans more towards an actual romantic relationship (with him sleeping in the bed with the first love's photo on the bookstand) + he had actual conflicts with XG's mom regarding business.

If we follow the ending of the book then what I remembered was that XG's mom became a rich businesswoman, her dad's business slumped and the first love becoming actually sick and not the pretense sickness. He then abandoned his first love with the book describing outsiders reminiscing the event as "it was heartaching to see someone you loved being sick, but when they actually become sick it becomes just a burden."

I dont recall them describing what happened to the daughter as she never met with these shady people in the book

In the book however the grandpa insisted on cutting ties and tried giving away the Shuangyuan shares as a way to send him away to the side branch. A warning that he got nothing to do with the main branch. In the book the grandpa didnt feel remorse and wasnt testing Xingjie, he was set on Xingjie and saw no wrong about his past actions.

Hence why the Shuangyuan shares in the book symbolistically didnt mean anything good. However they changed some events around which made him acquiring the Shuangyuan shares as a "good deed" from grandpa.

Fun fact, in the book Xiguang had a mission from her mom for which she had to convince her own father to give his shares of Shuangyuan voluntary to her. Her mom knew her dad was going to oppose her relationship with LYS and therefore decline the shares transfer. She wanted to see how far Xiguang was willing to go through obstacles with LYS.

In the end her dad gave her the shares, her mom never went and pressured the dad.

Also the dad in the book had a lot more affection for her mother and was longing for her, however its different from the drama:p

Because his dad was from a poor background. The mom insisted on marrying him. The family didnt like that.
Thats actually wrong.

In the book LYS dad and mom had a smooth marriage since LYS dad was a really promising man with real capabilities. He started working at LYS grandpa's company, earned his reputation and proved his worth. Thats why the grandpa agreed on the marriage, there was no discrimination in his background.

What caused his fall was the same thing he got praised for: his ability to manage the company. The brother got jealous, the grandpa got paranoia as LYS dad was not his "own" offspring, but did better than his own sons

This drove LYS mom's brother to pin a "work related problem" on his dad which caused him to be sent away to Switzerland where he met his downfall through an accident. That's why LYS mom got really mad at the grandpa as he knew LYS dad was innocent and wouldnt have died if not for being sent away. And for which the grandpa feels extremely regretful for.

The show never gave a proper explanation about LYS mom and dad's marriage, the book however did.

She went back because she saw him come after her, its still the same thing she would forgive him because now he…
In the novel Qiaoxi didnt just ran and watch her drive away. He actively tried to stop her from leaving, even communicating with the taxi driver to just go so that she had to stay.

But Yingtao coming back is just her caving in yet again, endlessly doing so. If she really went away and didnt come back, would Qiaoxi just keep crying on the streets? I was missing the action instead of him just helplessly watching her go and then feeling sad yet again for himself without actively doing anything except that "run".

Yingtao went beyond it, flying all the way to HK and him just running that tiny distance and just letting it go rubs off the wrong way.

I just feel like it was portrayed very differently from the novel where Qiaoxi was for once the one trying to keep them together instead of Yingtao every single time

I was so mad about how Yingtao decided to still return to Qiaoxi after she got on the taxi. In the novel she was done throughout, she did not deserve getting ignored, waiting endlessly and chasing him tirelessly. She gave up, she was getting that taxi and she was not coming back.

When Qiaoxi ran desperately to get her back in the novel, it showcased how Qiaoxi finally understood what it means to get abandoned as well by her, how she was treated all the past years. He was getting only a small taste of what she has been through and couldn't even bear that. Meanwhile in the drama Yingtao AGAIN went back to him sigh, its always Yingtao.

Idk if I missed it. But how did they become the 5 chosen one? Inheritance? Or was it because they encountered…
They explained it as having "special genes", being the descendants of the prior 5 chosen ones.

Honestly in the novel they described it as just fate. First come first serve literally. But it makes much more sense to have someone behind the scenes pull all the strings together to let them meet as a group and the relics (as seen in the drama).

Also really happy they let I Wansan x Hongsha be a couple. Really loved that addition!
On The Seven Relics of Ill Omen Jun 24, 2025
I am so happy that they let Ping Ting be an adorable little sister. In the novel they turned her into a jealous woman after she regained her consciousness, and im really happy they skipped that part.

It also made much more sense for Mu Dai to have 2 personalities instead of 3 in the novel. It was really a contrast of light vs dark, and I would say that leaving out the "main personality" was a good idea and simplified her personality as well.

I am unsure how Guanghua stayed alive however since the first relic already escaped. So by definition he should have been dead as he didnt have any relic on him. But the explanation of the 7th relic made much much more sense in the drama than in the novel.

I also feel like they could have explained the dog story more since the novel really emphasized the dog in the final volume, but they glossed over it really quick here. On the other hand I am also happy they didn't go into detail since it was a pretty creepy story (although it would have tied up the story better).

Overall I enjoyed the drama a lot. I feel like they cut quite a bit and a 36-40 episode drama would have been better to fully reflect the novel. But it also was suspenseful enough for me to not find it inferior compared to the novel. The novel was a lot creepier however I would say, so I am a bit sad (but again glad) they didnt fully incorporated some elements. The acting was great, good enough to oversee the relatively cheap CGI, and I really loved the actors interpretation of their roles here. Shout out to Liu Yuning's OST because it fitted the drama sooooo well.

Definitely worth the watch!

Bigfoot is just a wild beast human mutation. I can spoil more if you want but I also dont want to spoil more information…
I think you got the answer in the newest ep!

To add the story about the amber pendant is not finished yet. A savage raped the killed woman before and she gave birth to the young savage. The saveg who raped her got killed by the husband and a few killers, so the drawn "bigger" savage was implied to be the father. Later on we realized that the bigger drawn person was the actual savage and that a human kid was the smaller one. The woman had birthed a kid before with her husband but couldn't bear to abandon the little savage she bore later. One night she wanted to bring the small savage food after hearing there were treasure hunters.. and we all saw what happened later. Btw the little humankid, I think you might be able to guess who it was:)

The savage died but was kind from heart, the hanged woman also did nothing wrong except avenging the one who killed her. But they both died. Actually really sad to think about how an act of kindness got rewarded with death both times.

On Be Passionately in Love Jun 6, 2025
Besides the no kissing scenes (I dont mind it as much) I actually really liked Liu Haocun. Was it a miscast? Yeah I would agree. But all her little expressions were so cute and if you looked past the "passionately" I would say it was really a fluff watch.

Not disagreeing with how the plot didnt live up to the name nor how the actress was a mismatch. I loved Wang Anyus vulnerable scenes and I also really loved Liu Haocuns expressive eyes. Her playing with her fingers on the railing of the dorm, the boom fingers, her talking whilst eating, also the looks she gave when Luzhou said she was clingy. I thought overall she acted the part of a lively, positive cute schoolgirl really well. I found the bickering of the 2 to be really cute too and her relationship with her dad was beyond wholesome.

I think overall the chemistry was there, but it was more of a pure cute love than a passionate one. The proposal scene got me tho, that one was actually really cute to me.

I was really resentful that they took Gwansik away so early in his lifetime. He was finally enjoying his life with less burden after so many sacrifices. He could finally pick up a hobby and fulfill his dream to be a rich dad. And then they took him away. A selfless soul who was kinder than anyone. Who always placed himself after everyone his. They took him right at the point where he could finally see the world beyond just being the head of the house.

Then it suddenly hit me. My mom once spoke about a girl she knew in her high school life. More perfect than anyone she has ever met. Beyond pretty and academic, kinder than anyone and having the perfect life and boyfriend everyone envied. This girl was taken away at the age of 18.
My uncle in law whose love life was similar to Gwansik, who turned against his rich parents to marry my aunt, who was her biggest supporter and greatest father to my cousins... taken away due to cancer. Nobody in his family had records of cancer, it had to be him who was nicer to anyone I have ever met.
Even I was warmly embraced whenever I saw him, never failing to remember my favorite fruits and prepping them beforehand. The way he never failed to bring the sweetest mangos will forever be remembered.

My mom lamented that heaven was unfair. It knew who were the kindest people in life, and they are always taken away first. She said: "Heaven sees everything and will take away the people that shine brighter than anyone to a better place. Criminals live longer because even Heaven does not welcome them."

That reminded me of Gwansik and Sangil. It was semi tellling me that Gwansik was meant to be taken away earlier but Heaven knew he couldnt due to how resentful he would be. How else could he have beared all the storms on his boat? He couldn't leave Ae-sun behind unless he knew she was in safe hands. That's why he only left after sailing through all their problems, until they could finally pluck the fruits of their hard work.
Meanwhile Sangil lived longer than Gwansik, his many bad deeds tying him down to Earth. Perhaps a chance for him to redeem himself finally.

After thinking this I dont feel as resentful that they took away Gwansik. Because even Heaven knew he was the brightest gem of all.

If you still havent realized,
this challenge on its own shouldnt have ever existed. Its not a matter of stopping it in the middle, its justifying this challenge entirely.

Its not basics, they arent trained to go beyond their stamina limits. Normal people dont, neither should they. There were plenty of normal ways to execute the theme song evaluations, but this was far from fair and neither was it healthy.

But since you are willing to justify this gruesome action, I will leave it at this. No further replies will be made.
