Finally someone who agree with me on this. I thought, while baek in ho was an interesting character and his dynamic with the ML adds depth to the story, him having feelings for the FL is irrelevant. The ML is one of the most complex characters I have seen in kdrama and I really just wanted more of him, his character developmemt and his relationship with the FL more screentime.

Not laying everything out explicitly isn't really a "loose thread". One of my favorite things about this finally…
I am glad it was a satisfying ending for you. It is ok for me to expect different things from a drama, i hope? I would have liked to see the actual healing and communication to be explicitly shown just like they have shown us the misery.

Hey i tried to read it but it is indeed very long so I couldn't get past the synopsis. I haven't gotten to the part of your opinion of the series yet.

That was the best possible ending I guess. It was ok but a lot of loose ends. CW and YS got a good character development in the last few episodes. From being the opposites, CW being too clingy and YS being too independent, they found the middle ground where they can rely on others without being too emotionally dependent. That was nice.

But they haven't communicated on why they broke up. Also, there is nothing much about his childhood or his parents backstory. This made me feel like the story has incomplete pieces and not fully satisfying. The real father following him around is pretty much useless piece of detail with no significance.

As for ji ung, they did his character so dirty that his entire screen time is practically a waste. A stagnant character with no personal growth, no resolution to childhood trauma or love life.

tha's when i realized i was a useless piece in her life.. 😭 for a teen to think that..
It was heart breaking. She is a POS mom. There is no betrayal in this world that is worse than a parent failing to love and protect a child.

I bet they are going to show that mom meant she would have been dead if not for ji ung or something like that. But i am sorry, no matter what they show, i will not feel any sympathy for her. I don't care how pathetic her life had been, if she couldn't even smile at the child greeting her at the end of the day or speak a few words with him while eating for years and years, she deserves her lonely death.

So I suppose there is three outcome with the studying in France story line.1. They goes together.2. He goes alone…
#1 grandma will.be dead is what i think. Since he already put it off once, #3 will be a repeat cycle. All audience will hate #2. There is no way yeon su could leave leaving grandma.

On a side note. I have seen more love triangles and friendships betrayed in my college life than any kdrama. They just didn't look as intense as dramas though, people just seemed to move on relatively easier. But then i was only an observer, so maybe I just wasn't privy to the details. My own love life has been a lot less dramatic and more secure thankfully, hence i live vicariously through dramas and i am happy to keep it that way too lol.

This is the best comment i have seen so far. The audience's feelings on the characters varied from accepting to understanding to hating but that is how life is. We all have personalities we like, we understand and rub us the wrong way and we look at characters from our own perspective of the world. I commend the writers for keeping the characters human and not black or white. I just wish there was more to the plot and pacing wasn't as slow but I am sure that would have come at a price in terms of characterization.
Well summarized!

Episode 9 the first 5 mins or so, he talks about his strategy to keep her out of his life despite seeing them around every corner and we see him walking with a girl, possibly a date. He mentions he almost forgot about her when he saw her again

I thought this would be just a normal romcom (like a used plot ) but a lot of ppl seem to really like it? Could…
It is still pretty cliche, nothing too unique but not bad either. People are liking it for various reasons - choi woo shik/kim da mi (the actors), no love triangle, they got the leads together by about ep 10-11 so there are some cute scenes instead of waiting all the way to the end. But nothing else otherwise, I guess. It is slow and ok for a binge watch for one time. I wouldn't give it a rewatch value.

On the other hand, people who divorced might get back later but they may not end their dating life for the rest of their life or hoping the ex would show up again.

They already mentioned in an episode that he did meet new people and dated. No one can drive away feelings, maybe he just did not find "the one". And even though he probably had her in the back of his mind, he was really not shown to be this desperate until they met again and started the documemtary. I think his feelings were retriggered after seeing her again after so long and this time around, with her being friendlier and unattached, his hopes might have gone up only to be dashed again after a brief period. That could happen in real life too, and it most definitely happened in kdrama world. Only it is usually the leads going through it and people don't over analyze them.

I notice people love to hate any character that is not in favor of their personal "ship". If ji ung were the lead ( and played by woo shik) and ys is currently dating him in this series they would have wanted CW to move on already. If not love alarm would have gotten a 0 rating. The rationale switches by their own biases, not because it is truly rational.

Yes that is what i said too. I agree with your original comment that people trying to rationalize ONLY ji ung makes no sense to me. There are several popular dramas where the leads have a one sided crush for years for no reason and they are all happily accepted. A love so beautiful, little thing called first love, incurable case of love etc for example.

I think trying to rationalise Ji Ung's feelings is kind of pointless. Some people just stay with you. And he hasn't…
Not just Ji ung, they all do. Why did CW started liking YS during the documentary when she did nothing but insult him throughout. Why did YS start liking him for that matter? They did nothing to endear themselves to the other person until they actually started dating. Why didn't they move on for 5 years, does that happen in real life? Why did they get back together, what did they think had changed in the 5 years they spent apart? We either rationalize everything realistically and suggest therapy for all or we suspend realism for kdrama and accept the personalities for what they are.

tbh I keep seeing people being "mad" at Jiung but I can't help but just relate to him... all the main characters…
For real. This entire series he reminded me of that guy who loved keira knightly from love actually and they actually called this episide so and even mentioned it in the epilogue. I loved tge monent where keira's character, while still being faithful to her husband, understands his friends feelings and treats him nicely still. I don't think ji ung deserves the contempt he's been receiving for liking someone. I hope they give him a proper closure in tge next epusodes.

Ep 12 left me with bittersweet feelings. It is nice and sweet that the main couple reunited and their awkward interactions were cute. I hope they are going to show more character development in the upcoming episodes with regards to how they learn to rely on each other despite their individual personalities.

It is slightly disappointing though because it looks like the second leads will not get a chance to ever express themselves even if they were going to be rejected and it made me a bit sad for their characters. Their characters, as the plot is currently, did not add much to the plot which makes them pointless. There might as well have been no unrequited love angle from either of them or not even have them in the story and nothing would have changed.
