The plot is the same as in the novel. In the novel, she goes into an accident in the construction site (in fact I think it is also a temple), falls into a coma for sometime where she experiences her second chance, then wakes up. So, in the novel it's also a subconscious dream as it's explained by the doctor. You noticed the visitor log, right? Every day her mom and Lu Xun come to visit her, mom in the mornings and Lu Xun in the evenings. That's where the input of her dream because they talk into her unconscious mind. Adding her own regret of the past and desire for a second chance, because of the reunion. All form into her dream.
I know they talk to her unconscious mind, because she dreams things like her parents love toward each other and the kids (when mom visits) and she and Lu Xun date at the uni (his wish, when he visits). That's how she also realizes about the message on the lighted billboard comes from him, she doesn't see it in the real past.
Don't worry, Lu Xun has always loved her even in the real past. There are hints here and there in the drama, even in the beginning of the story before she falls into coma. Like what I put in this article, a hidden spoiler in the picture when she asks when she won't do overtime anymore, he answers when he gets a girl friend (meaning her). Also during reunion, he says his love life doesn't come true (with her). Only Qian Wei who thinks because Lu Xun and Zi Xin don't become a couple in the past, that's why he holds a grudge and overwork hers. Because in the real past Qian Chuan likes Zi Xin so Qian Wei gets Zi Xin together with her brother (they dated). But even in the real past, Lu Xun never likes Zi Xin. He always secretly likes Qian Wei, but she dated Chong Wen.

Finally I got to watch with English sub. I'm glad I waited till the sub is out since I was kinda confused what happened to him. I agree with the ending but I noticed the pulse increases as the background sound.
It's a good story I don't understand why the rating is low.

In the novel, they end up together. Since this is a romcom, I bet they end up together after she wakes up. Remember the reunion scene? ;D
