On Secret Crush on You Apr 23, 2022
I only watched this episode today so I had time to read a lot of comments before and really didn't know what to expect from it. But honestly I really enjoyed this episode much more than the last ones. I found it to be quite an emotional ride even the more silly parts. I thought Seng did a beautiful job portraying Toh's insecurities and anxieties in the first two parts. All of them shined in the episode especially Daisy.
When I began watching Secret Crush even though I loved from the start all the camp and over the top antics what really got my attention was those heartfelt moments we got. Repeating the rules of having a secret crush or crying with Toh after his disappointment during Nuea's song. It told me that there was more to it than met the eye.
I know the series may have some issues overall but I just feel it has so much heart and so much loving going around that I can't help but feel the same about it.

It's not that simple. She didn't protect him when he was a child. She let him get abused. She didn't support him.…
Well, now it makes sense why you think "slapping the sh*t out of your child" would be a good response to their behavior after growing up on an abusive house. Like Nut repeats the abusive actions he learned all his life.

I might have a new crush sorry billy but opp is too good-looking
No wonder Nuea felt threatened by Intouch's supposed interest in Toh, that's some hard competition there specially when he smiles lol

I just want to confirm what bubbleworld said. I was watching this on a different site (I can't even remember which…
I think it's episode 6 (near the end) when they are in his apartment after coming back from the beach. Nuea's talking to Toh and tells him that kissing a man and a woman is very different. Toh asks why he is talking like he knows the difference and Nuea replies that he knows more about it then Toh himself.

Are you watching on YT? It has the uncut version. Other places tend to show show a cut version. That scene in…
Yes I get that, I think it's part of the narrative like Toh is so much stuck on his dream world he can't see what's in front of him. But I think from episode 7 onward it keeps getting more straightforward. I do think the show has some issues with it though, with sudden changes. After episode 9 I went and read the novel up to that point and somethings that didn't make a lot of sense or seemed random in the show became clearer.

Okay I went on myasiantv and it's really the cut version they have there so you have been missing the "sexy parts" (or part of them). That's why it feels weirdly edited.

Wow, you know this show has many issues but comments like yours is what makes me give it a lot of credit anyway.…
You are the one thinking yourself clever and making your opinion as if it was some kind of "hard fact", it's not. Just by comparing this to American minstrel shows really gives it away, you are really out of your depth. You feel whatever you feel and it's just that, your opinion and nothing more. But in the first comment to me you made yourself very clear about what you think (and that's not about the show itself) and that tells me everything I need to know. Besides that it's pointless discussion anyway.

You in fact are very much caring and screaming (the more you say you don't care the more it show you feel deeply mad). It's clear for all too see in the comments not only how you are disgusted by the characters in the show (which whatever, it's fiction) but how you feel the same way about real people that remind you of them. Now that is unacceptable, period. And it should be the same for society in general if it were not ruled by prejudice similar to yours. But enough with the semantics.
Now of course you don't care about my opinions nor would I think you do but your hate comments (which I'm sure you will deny them being so) will not go unchallenged. You do not speak facts, you are wrong and they are only you're very biased and prejudiced opinions.
By the way I'll ask you are you sure the is sky really blue? Is this true? Always? In this too you are factually wrong, since the sky can be many colors depending on the time or the weather. See maybe you should stop thinking in absolutes since they are generally wrong.
The show seems to have really struck a nerve in some people even though it's mostly just some campy rom-com....lol

Ok here is the thing about taste... You either like something, or you dont. If you like something, i.e. SCOY,…
The issue since the beggining has been one and one issue only: "effeminate men" being the protagonists of the show instead of the comic relief, villains or the "best friends of, forever alone and delusional". As we see everyday in our society the worst sin a man can commit is to be or show anything remotely feminine since we all know that there is nothing more degrading than being a woman. That is unforgivable and that's what most people who seem to hate the show can't get past (their comments says a lot about what irks them).
Yes the show has it's flaws and there's a lot we could criticize about their gender dynamics even though they seem to be subverting some of them . But that's not the reason for all these comments we are seeing. It's funny to me that people don't see Nuea as a walking stereotype himself and he does not incite the same level of discomfort or hatred as our trio of friends get even when he acts as over the top as any of them.

OK, made it through the first ep. Only started FFing near the end when I couldn't stand the screeching anymore.Best…
Wow, you know this show has many issues but comments like yours is what makes me give it a lot of credit anyway. It's amazing how men who are "putting on feminine affectations" really bothers people on such a deep level.
And since you seem to like facts so much do know that you are putting as much a performance as anyone of those "flamboyant" men you seem to despise so much. We all are. We all use gender expression like the "sequined jacket" of your example. There is nothing natural about it. "Feminine" or "masculine" behavior is socially and culturally learned and as you so clearly showed us society does not take kindly to people (specially men) that acts outside of gender expectations. They can only exist (in fiction or in the real worlds) in a place of ridicule and contempt.
I don't really care if you like the show or not or if it's the worst thing ever made in the world. That's not a problem but your clear prejudice against "effeminate men" and the way you condescend about them cannot be accepted because it's part of a culture that harms real people everyday.

Toh can be described a lot of ways but I have to say, boring, to me, is not one. I NEVER know what he is going…
Exactly! Toh boring? Never! I find it kinda of funny that people don't think Nuea is a little weird himself and find him perfectly "normal". I think we can say a lot of things about this series but the main couple is absolutely perfect for each other...lol

I agree with you!!! I had the same reaction during the scene, with just a little bit more the series could be truly revolutionary.

Same. Gets me even more excited because I know what is going to happen next even if they change a few things.…
Yeah I get it was written like that but wasn't it written like a joke? How did it play in the novel? I might have misread the scene but to me it seemed like Nuea had no intention of letting Toh really "top" even if he wanted to. I don't have a problem even if it was showed that Toh really only played the bottom but the way it was done to me seemed like making fun of him thinking he could ever do it for Nuea.

But I wish they didn't treat Toh wanting to be the "top" as some kind of joke/impossibility.

Yeah, I don't think it has been stated clearly in the show yet (maybe they will now they are dating) but nothing to me in Nuea's actions screams "first time"...lol

Wow! What a fucking wonderful surprise... and it takes a damn lot to surprise this seriously open minded woman!…
Is Nuea supposed to be seem as straight who just "fell" for a man though? I mean none of his friends seemed surprised by his crush on another man. Also when when Toh asked him why he was talking about the differences between dating a man and a woman he sounded like he knew the difference. And Nuea answered that he knew more than Toh himself.

Sorry, but where were you the whole 80, 90 and 2000? Did you watch any TV show from that period? Like for decades,…
As I said the show is not perfect and I agree with you I was just pointing out that even though feminine men have been portrayed for a long time on shows doesn't mean it's the same or even good representation. Now regarding SCOY I've read that in the novel only Daisy is "feminine" while Jao and Toh were just nerdy guys so the change was made for the show specifically. I do agree that the show is not that deep but I think they do play knowingly with these stereotypes (and I'm still waiting to see where they will take these characters). But even though the show isn't that deep I think the violent reactions and expressions of disgust we've seen from parts of the public really shows how much our society can't cope even with the smallest changes from the norm. Could SCOY do better? Certainly. But I think it can be a step in the right direction so in the future more daring shows can come and be made.

Sorry, but where were you the whole 80, 90 and 2000? Did you watch any TV show from that period? Like for decades,…
I was around for all these decades but are you sure you were too? Yes, it's true that only feminine guys were portrayed as gay but you forget to mention the most important part. They were never the protagonists and even worse they were only there to be the butt of the joke, to be mocked, portrayed as delusional and at best the "gay best friend" of the main character. Never to be taken seriously as a human with feeling or deserving of love. So SCOY is doing something very different it's even somewhat subversive in how they take these stereotypical characters, make them the protagonists and ask us to empathize with them, look the world through their eyes, laugh with them and not at them and (at least up to now) does not demand them to change or "sanitize" their imagine to become worthy of respect. Of course the show s not perfect but I think it's worth of praise.
