On Schoolgirl Apocalypse 6 days ago
Despite its title, "Schoolgirl Apocalypse" delivers a dreary, hallucinatory experience rather than the epic spectacle implied, though its ambition is commendable.

Title Marionette
Appropriately distressing, but barely palatable. It refuses to pull punches, vividly portraying a threat that remains relevant years after the film's release. Worth watching outside your comfort zone for its educational value.

Title Alter Ego
The “alter egos” have a neat uncanny‑valley vibe, and their inventive killings are memorably disturbing. Meanwhile, the cinematography needed a distinct horror tone; the character writing—tighter logic. Overall, not a bad indie flick.

A perfect marriage of CGI and practical effects; the roach design is striking and the concept is a stroke of genius, delivered through an expertly crafted story.

A tender and profound movie. Failing to address problems properly only exacerbates them. Japan must take mental health seriously to prevent exploitative services; the one depicted in the film has its place if used responsibly. Hikari is a talented writer‑director who also impressed me with "37 Seconds"—I look forward to her future work. Brendan Fraser is outstanding in his challenging role, and Shannon delivers a performance that belies this being her first film.

A gripping water-centred crime thriller with a well-crafted overarching storyline that's in desperate need of a season 2 to remedy its open ending.

Title A Trap Spoiler
A tragic and haunting film that reminds us past misdeeds eventually return with a vengeance. What first appears to be wealthy predators hunting the poor proves far more complex. It's layered with mystery and clever twists that reframe earlier events, yet leans on a few coincidences for them to pay off.

Title Sayounara Konbanwa Spoiler
A sweet and gentle film about the value of connection. Aisuke's full story and a proper farewell would've been nice. At the end, Aisuke is reincarnated yet retains her ghost memories?

Title A Crimson Star Spoiler
A bleak, hopeless, and disturbing film of depravity and dysfunctionality. Crushed by her infertility, which makes nursing stressful and Yo's compliment feel burdensome, Yayoi sinks into depression and resorts to prostitution. Fourteen-year-old Yo, estranged from her mother with an abusive boyfriend, leans on ex‑nurse Yayoi for comfort—only for Yayoi's toxicity to infect Yo and worsen matters. Though I respect the film's unflinching realism, its absence of justice is hard to swallow.

On In House Marriage Honey Feb 4, 2026
A cute, refreshingly melodrama-free rom-com. Still, the relationship needed a more realistic progression, and Manatsu's reason for hiding the marriage should've been stronger.

Cleverly conceals a The Sixth Sense–style twist and another surprise but plays more like an average dysfunctional-family drama than an effective horror.

Surprisingly good despite a ridiculous premise—full of heart and unexpected twists, reminiscent of "Rozen Maiden". Could've been slightly longer to better flesh out all the characters.

A full cast of supermodels? This cramped two‑hour horror anthology's ten stories vary—some satisfy, while others leave you wanting more or disappointed. Overall, it's enjoyable despite its clichés and shortcomings.

An honest and melancholic romance that irritates as Saki indulges the self‑destructive Nagata, who refuses to change. Their toxic interdependence catalyses necessary transformation, closing on a brilliant, bittersweet note.

On The Divine Fury Dec 29, 2025
A refreshing spin on the exorcist-horror subgenre with a superhero-style origin story. The protagonist's arc and his relationship with the exorcist remain engaging, but the villain, who could be summed up as a spoiled rich kid, is underdeveloped and forgettable.

Title My Teacher
Predictable and unremarkable. Mr Ito is underwritten and repeatedly irresponsible, leaving Kosuke, a student, to set him straight. A talented cast is wasted on a mediocre script that skirts the deeper ethical questions of its controversial subject. If Hibiki and Mr Ito had genuine chemistry and complemented each other, the film might have been worthwhile.

Title Bread of Happiness Spoiler
It's the warmth of "Café Funiculi Funicula"「aka "Before the Coffee Gets Cold"」(2018) and "Little Forest" (2014,'15,'18), only without capturing their magic. Each patron enters Café Máni, confronts a personal crisis, and leaves renewed; the end. Notably, many scenes resemble beautiful oil paintings, but the narrative remains too safe and mundane to resonate deeply.

Title Anchor Spoiler
From the ghostly poster and IMDb’s horror tag, I expected supernatural terror—yet the film delivers a mystery thriller that only skims gwisin clichés. It's regrettably unsuspenseful, as the protagonist never feels truly endangered, not even from the suspicious doctor. The main highlight is a twist I didn’t see coming—but overall the story and characters aren’t compelling enough, and the pacing drags.
