Chinese BL need a production company outside Mainland. else they can't be aired on official streaming services. Mainland forbids homosexuality in media and it's forbidden to stream them internationally, too. The actors, scriptwriters, directors, etc are usually mainly from mainland. So whatever country a CBL is under, it's just for legal reasons. on paper it's not mainland, so mainland can't censor it.

glad you didn't for mango! I usually do monthly, changing every month. yearly only when it's on sale. many popular mango dramas will appear later on WeTV or Viki, too. Viki usually offers the best subs.

watch it for the aesthetics, it's like a chic perfume advertisement. some episode are boring, dragged out. they could have shortened it into a mini or vertical drama. they rushed the ending. for better understanding read the novel on chrysanthemum garden. and the series is on gagaoolala, too.

same. the first half got me, the last third not anymore. like with many dramas they start strong and then they hurry to edit the finish instead of thinking about the ending first, building the bridges in-between before starting to pave the road.

the story is definitely not mainstream. most BL fans want a sweet romance between good guys. Liuyi is a dark skinned murderer. handsome but unfortunately not Asian ideal. only popular novels get an adaptation, so there must be a fan base. yes, maybe it's millennials who became passive consumers, not the active young fans.
