However, It did provide a good kick to the expansion of the BL industry though (mostly because execs realised they could make a lot of money over these "obsessions"), so I will give you that one.

You are being somewhat naive, and you and your friend above have missed the larger point. How many BL shows get slagged off because they have NC scenes and constantly get told they don’t need them? Producers, companies and directors actively tone down LGBTQ elements, along with the sexual nature of the relationship to appease crowds and get a bigger exposure.
The excuse given is always that the show doesn’t need it.

I think it’s more nerves. This is the first time they’ve done a series which is more “mature”. You can tell it gets progressively better with each episode, and the last one is actually good. It didn’t feel awkward, and I normally pick up on this stuff. I’m looking forward to their next series, just wish it wasn’t another high school one… Give them something more mature now they’re a bit older.
