I think ep 8 (DramaFever & 15+16 Viki/Kocowa) is my favorite so far. The OTP are finally starting to really get to know each other and connect. For those who can't wait for the Eng subs every week, here's a recap of what happened during the live SBS broadcast. https://www.dramamilk.com/still-17-kdrama-live-ish-recap-episode-15-and-16/
Ep 7 was sweet and funny. Things are starting to be unveiled and mysteries are starting to be uncovered. I can't wait to for the onion peeling to continue (pun intended). I'm glad to see Woo Jin also peeling away his out defenses as well. I need Dr. Kim to be part of the main plot. That's the best story with the most potential that they are not exploring yet.
As if those amazing last few minutes in ep 6 on DramaFever (Ep 11+12 on Viki & Kocowa) were not enough to hook us into watching Monday's episodes, I saw these two new pictures that were not in last week's preview. They are the promo pics for either Monday's or Tuesday's episodes. SBS also airs new episodes every Monday & Tuesday @ 10PM Korea time.
I just watched the live SBS airing of ep 11-12 and the chemistry between Seo Ri & Woo Jin is so unbelievably touching and sweet. That last few minutes, holy cow! I love that they can be really funny or fiery one minute then melt your heart the next. This is one of the few shows where all three guys are so amazing that I can honestly say they all deserve her and she deserves to be with any of them b/c they are all such good, kind people. She's only interacted on screen w/ the lead & SL and she has amazing chemistry w/ them, so I can't wait to see what it's like w/ the neurosurgeon. This show is so addictive! It goes by so fast while I'm watching it and the week goes so slow til the next episode. This is by far one of my favorite shows of all time!
I'm not sure if the leads are that good together. They've had a few moments and they weren't disappointing but…
Hi Knavery, I addressed your concerns in my review of this show so I won't write it here again. Plus I address two other main running concerns in my review as well. If you click on the Reviews tab, you'll see my review, it's concern #3 that addresses your concern. I have no ideal why MDL has my review in the Review tab and on their main page as a new review, but there's nothing listed in the middle section of this page in Reviews and it says be the first to review when I posted mine over an hour ago. Anyways, here's the link https://kisskh.at/28327-thirty-but-seventeen/reviews.
I can understand that based on the description the natural concerns people have about the age differences emotionally and chronologically. I think the writer and director as well as the actors have done a really good job of showing us that it's not just Seo Ri who had arrested development at 16 intl. yr/17 Korean yrs. Woo Jin's life and emotional maturity essentially also stopped for him on the day of that bus accident as well.
They both have not lived their lives in their own ways since that day. Episode 7-8 especially showed how immature Woo Jin is still and ep 9-10 how traumatized he still is and much pain and guilt he still feels from that accident. He may be grumpy and she may be outgoing in their forms of immaturity, but as Chan often said, it feels like Woo Jin is more the nephew than the uncle. I don't think Woo Jin's sister sent Chan there to be looked after, but to be the one to look after Woo Jin. Chan's directly said that in episode 1.
To me, this is a love story about two emotionally stunted 30 year olds with the emotional maturity of 17 year olds. This story is about how they help each to grow and mature into their chronological age of 30. I don't think there's anything creepy about it. I actually think it's sweet and touching. Not everyone has to be in a coma to have arrested development. Now Goblin was creepy to me because she was an actual minor legally, chronologically and was even more immature emotionally while he was an old man in comparison. At least Woo Jin is still a young man. Don't get me started on Goblin's chronological age. Seo Ri is naive and still coming out of her coma fugue, whereas Goblin girl was just immature and creepily still wearing her school uniform & backpack as the Goblin was grooming her to be his bride (shudders). However, if you have concerns about the age thing, I really hope you can reconsider given what I've written or better yet, go back and pay attention to what the writer has written and the characters themselves have said and done.
I'm enjoying the drama a lot and crave for the next episode to be released. But I just keep thinking about how…

Now Goblin was creepy to me because she was an actual minor legally and was even more immature emotionally, and he was an old man in comparison. Congratulations Hayley on so many great new things in your life. I love your article and 100% agree w/ everything you wrote. I love the cast's chemistry, especially the leads to each other and to the second lead. I am looking forward to the romance as well. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows of all time. I can't wait see how the story unfolds as we watch their healing journey and them unraveling the mystery as well as the romance.
Also, is anyone else getting the Gong-Hyo-Jin-funny-quirky-adorable vibe from Shin Hye Sun from this performance in 30b17?
This cast's chemistry reminds me of the Friends' chemistry in the sense that you can make any combination of any of them and it would work. They are all such great actors w/ superb comic timing. There's not one weak link in the bunch. In additional to what Elvirad wrote below:
- Seo Ri & Woo Jin - tense, becoming sweet, they push each other's buttons but can also help and heal each other in ways that no one else can. it's getting funnier and lighter between them now thank goodness. I loved She was Pretty, this writers other show, and this show & this pairing of Shin Hye Sun & Yang Se Jong is twice as funny and lovable as SWP if not more. WJ - Why are you eating paper? SR - I was born in the year of the goat. WJ - There is no year of the goat.
- Seo Ri & Yoo Chan - they are both such sweet kind spirits who communicate on the same wavelength. The real 17 yr old SR would have been the perfect gf for YC - Seo Ri & Jennifer - J's the perfect robot mother that SR didn't know she needed. J's like a robot Mary Poppins who looks after adults. That cooking scene had me drooling and we're having Korean pancakes b/c of that. I love how kind J is underneath her robotic demeanor and how much she looks out of SR and the other house members.
- Woo Jin & Jennifer - who knew that two people who suppress their feelings trying to talk to each other can be so funny? To me they are like the pretty Kdrama version of Sheldon & Amy from Big Bang Theory. Their awkward & even violent interactions are so funny. - Woo Jin & Yoo Chan - bromance as its best. I had to use that b/c UncleNephewMance just didn't have a ring to it. They have better chemistry than actual romantic partners on other shows. Same goes for Yoo Chan & his friends. - Woo Jin & his co-workers - they are like the caring and funny siblings we would all love to have. - Paeng w/ anyone is cuteness overload. I swear that dog is a better actor than half of the human actors out there no matter the nationality. That scene where Paeng puts its paws on SR & YC clasped hands was cavity inducing sweetness.
QUESTION: is it Paeng or Peng? Is it a he or a she? The subs contradict each other re him/her.
I ship the second lead as well. Besides being so devoted, he's gorgeous which doesn't hurt his case. . 13 years…
Unfortunately it wouldn't have mattered b/c he thinks the teen SeoRi's name is her friend's name b/c she mistakenly wore her friend's sweater w/ her friend's name on it and he thought he overheard her being called the friend's name. We're going to have to live w/ the mistaken identity thing for a while like in She Was Pretty, the writer's other hit show.
Is anyone else on pins and needles waiting for Monday 10PM Korea time to watch this live on SBS or for when Dramafever will release the next episode with English subs on Monday? I never watch shows while it's airing for this reason and on the rare occasions that I do, I could wait to watch them whenever, but with this show I'm counting down the days, hours and minutes til the next episode. This show is so worth the wait though.
I hope if you love this show you'll support our beloved cast by watching it on legitimate sites like Dramafever (free), Kocowa & Viki so our favorite actors from this show, especially Shin Hye Sun, will get credit for bringing in the ratings and get more leading roles in the future. I think kisskh may also get credit if you click on the video links to DramaFever above in Watch Videos or the Episode Guide tab at the top of this page. They only have links for ep1 & 2 for now b/ that's all that's been released which are actually 4 episodes b/c DramaFever combined the two 35 minute episodes into one episode. Korean networks only care about their own ratings & those from legitimate sites that they license to when deciding if an actor is bankable or not for casting future top leading roles.
The maid is awesome at ep 4, I'm on the second leads ship... He waited 13 years for her.
I ship the second lead as well. Besides being so devoted, he's gorgeous which doesn't hurt his case. . 13 years is quite the devotion but to be fair Woo Jin didn't know she was still alive. At this point I would be happy if she ended up w/ either.
Why are there so many adjussi shows with much younger women? Byung Hun is 48 & Tae Ri is 28. That's a whole entire adult difference in age. I feel like there's some ageism going on vs older actresses and I'm going to stop watching these types of shows. For every Something in the Rain there's 10 shows where the female lead is much younger and in Something in the Rain there's only 7 years difference. This wouldn't bother me so much if there are as many shows for more mature actresses, but they are still getting phased out at 40, if not by mid 30s while their male counterparts star w/ actresses in their 20s. I would think in 2018 this practice would stop but I guess until we stop watching these shows and watch more mature actress shows, this will keep happening.
They had me hooked at ep1. I'm already laughing and crying. They all seem like such quirky lovable characters. Plus I love that the two leading characters are so artistically talented. I've already rewatched each episodes several times and they still make me laugh and cry.
You can put the GIF in #1 up w/ the GIF of Ha Ji Won kissing in The Time We Were Not in Love and they are identical. I just wrote a long comment on how much much I love HJW but unfortunately 50-80% of her kisses look like she's just asleep or in a coma in regards to her non moving lips and face and closed eyes as the gorgeous male leads are going to town on her lips. If I ever can muster the energy I will gather all the GIFs to demonstrate this and write a post devoted to HJW's many sleeping fish kisses spanning over decades with some of the KDramas most gorgeous and best kissers. If anyone sees such an article or decides to write one, don't forget to thank me for the great idea and DM me the link so I can like it and thank you for writing it. :)
You dropped It's Okay That's Love just when it got so good! There's a reason why it's so highly rated. Their love story started to take off at around ep 7 or 8. It ended up being one of the best love stories I have ever watched w/ such amazing chemistry that to this day many people ship them in real life. I dropped Goblin as well b/c I just found it creepy that such an old man (in comparison to her teenager underage status) was grooming an immature teenager to be his bride, just writing that reminds me of the creepy factor and made me shudder again.
As for Bride of the Century, count yourself lucky to not have wasted time on something that was really good until the last 3 or so episodes, then it became "WTF was that" horribleness. I wish I could get my time back and now hate that writer and will not watch anything else she writes b/c of how horribly she wasted my time w/ her stupid last few episodes that even the happy ending couldn't excuse. Nothing I hate more than writers who seems so good then turn stupid in the second half or toward the end then give you a happy last few minutes b/c I can't tell they will be wasting hours of my life and make me so unbelievably angry til it's too late. I've learned to read the the comments & reviews more carefully to avoid such writers and stories.
I feel that the kiss set ups are great and the Hyun Bin & Lee Seung Gi are two of the best Kdrdama kissers. As much as I LOVE Ha Ji Won and do agree she has great chemistry w/ her leading men. There are too many kiss scenes where Hyun Bin & Lee Seung Gi do all the work and Ha Ji Won's not even moving her lips or face - look at the gif you have of her. She's leaning in w/ her head and body to kiss Hyun Bin, but her lips and face don't move.
I hate that type of sleeping fish lip kissing that some Asian actresses do. I would have to say that Ha Ji Won is almost perfect as an actress, but about 50 -80% of her kisses, depending on her shows, are basically the leading men going to town on her lips and her lips are firmly closed and she's not even moving or reacting with her lips or face and sometimes she's not even moving her entire body.
Mercifully some of her directors take pity on her (or the audience) and show her lips as little as possible by hiding them w/ angle shots or hiding them w/ her leading men's heads. However, you can still tell she's not moving because her facial muscle are so still. Compare those types of shots w/ Park Min Young who also acted w/ Ji Chang Wook and you'll know what I mean. HJW looks asleep w/ her eyes closed and her lips and face not moving in way too many kisses throughout her entire career, even w/ her latest show Hospital Ship.
She's been so lucky to have the best kissers as her leading men, but she ruins too many kiss scenes in my opinion w/ her bad closed non moving lip kisses. I dread her kissing scenes b/c I don't know what I'm going to get from her - sleeping fish lips or natural responsive kisses. That is the only thing that drives me crazy about Ha Ji Won who is one of my all time favorite actresses.
Oh my heart...

These came a few hours after I posted the above pictures. So sweet, but strangely doesn't look like him but clearly it's his outfit from the preview.
