His agency declared him dead even before the police released a statement. That alone is already suspicious. Plus,…
Sadly I think the cover up is by powerful & rich people who are involved. I feel so sorry that these Chinese actors and celebrities are abused and murdered without ever getting justice bc that tells you that the regular people are treated even worse in a totalitarian or corrupt government. Putting money over human decency is the root of so much evil. Until the Chinese government feels the economic sting of abusing its own people, they won't stop as long as other countries and companies like Netflix keep doing business with them and look the other way. It's disgusting if it's true that Netflix removed his name from Eternal Love. Why erase the victim to help the victimizers except money over decency? We have to also vote and make change in who we buy from or give money to in terms of businesses and governments since that is the only way to get changes these days.
I'm glad Singaporeans & Chinese people have moral standards, unlike people in Taiwan, HongKong & Israel 🤮 proudly…
I wonder if a lot of those are from AI astroturfing (where celebrities & rich people pay public relations companies to sway the public by creating fake online accounts to pretend to be regular people pushing their agendas. Especially defending their criminal behavior in the court of public opinions.
How can the actors work with Lee Jin Wook after knowing what he did? But people still work with Lee Kyung Young,…
I wonder in this show if she was hired first and in contract then they hired him. She's a great and talented actress but I don't think she's a top actress in terms of making top money or has say in hiring other actors on her show. Even her agency is not one of the big ones. Or that maybe she didn't know the full story bc in heavily misogynistic Korea he and his agency were able to suppress a lot of information about what truly happened and the court ultimately agreed with him in the end despite his own admissions just bc it wasn't violent or violent enough according to the court that made the final decision.
Maybe instead of holding actresses or lesser powered actors responsible for the male lead's behavior, which unfortunately is part of the misogyny & toxic power dynamic, why don't we hold the actual actor and the companies like Netflix (Squid 2 was why all this resurfaced again), the producers, the studios who have the ultimate power for hiring them accountable? Go after the actual people with the power of hiring him.
Here's some additional facts re the case for those who were as unfamiliar and confused about what happened as I was. This recently written article I just found made the time line and what happened more clear. Which only adds to the mess & toxicity of this show. I already wrote a review of how toxic this show was before learning about what actually happened from this article. It's always so tragic when the victim is victimized by the legal system even worse. The victim's story makes me think of what mental health experts say that it's not a single trauma alone that causes PTSD or other mental illnesses. It's the amount of traumas and the duration as well as the reaction or lack of support to the victims that causes what is called complex trauma that can also lead to physical illnesses & diseases as well. Let's hope that the victim is getting all the help and support possible in her personal life to overcome what happened to her. https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/news/this-show-is-full-of-problems-squid-game-2-fans-furious-at-actor-amid-trailer-release/ar-AA1qUxEh
Wouldn't announcers/newscasters recognize their competitors from other networks? Like I'm stumped that Eun Ho…
Strangely enough, this was one of the parts of the plot that the writer did cover. Eun Ho was in radio at the beg of the present timeline in the series. She refused to appear on camera or take a job during the time that interfered w/ her parking attendant job bc of not wanting her double life to be discovered originally consciously then later unconsciously. That was why her boss creamed at her and was so confused as to why she didn't want such a great promotional opportunity in the 1st ep to do the on camera afternoon show. It was bc it was both on camera & at the time that would have interfered w/ her other life.
Eun Ho was actually consciously at first pretending to be Hyeri at the other station's parking lot. Then her personalities really did split and EH was no longer aware of Hyeri & vice versa. EH allowed herself to be bullied into taking the on camera job in the first ep bc she lost touch with other personality and didn't remember any more about her second life. She did get discovered pretty quickly after going on camera. The confusing time jumps and other numerous plotholes were what made this show such a missed opportunity. In the hands of a good or non toxic writer or director, this really could have been a warm hearted healing drama. Just switching the ML's personality and storyline w/ the SML even would have made this show a hit. If the endgame had been the SML and even EH integrating Hyeri would have been a much better storyline.
i wonder why did Shin Hye Sun pick this? she usually picks up good stuff, this was a shit drama and felt waste…
Unfortunately often the leads are not given the entire series to read bc it hasn't been written yet. They often only see the first four episodes, the rest they have to trust will turn out as good. I think she like us was fooled into believing the healing concept of this show & didn't realize until too late that the writer & directors do not have the capacity or will to follow through on their promises from the earlier scripts or had very toxic and ignorant views of love and mental illness.
I'm doing something that I've never done before and hope to never do again. Give warning trigger alerts to a Shin Hae Sun show that was advertised as a healing comfort romantic show in my review. I started to love her because some of her other shows have some of the most heartwarming and sweet love stories ever. However, I need to do a public service announcement for those thinking they are getting a comfort show about healing and romance as this show claimed in advertisements. I suggest watching her other shows that are also in my reviews for comfort and sweet romance. https://kisskh.at/profile/DLKDramaFan/reviews
Congratulations to the Mr. Queen cast for their 2021, 57th Baeksang Awards nominations (S. Korea’s Emmy & Oscar):
1. Shin Hye Sun - best TV actress for Mr. Queen & best new film actress for Innocence 2. Cha Chung Hwa - best supporting TV actress for Mr. Queen 3. Na In Woo - best new TV actor for River Where the Moon Rises 4. Bae Jong Ok - best supporting film actress for Innocence. Pretty cool that Mama & grand queen dowager were mother & daughter in a film in the same year and both got nominated for that film as well as that film doing really well and was number one in box office in Korea.
I was really depressed over the utter insanity & injustice of some ignorant Knets going after SHS, an innocent actress of a totally different show than the one they were upset about (Joseon Exorcist). I’m glad that sanity and common sense won out and after the crazy zombie like attacks on an innocent and super talented actress, more logical Knets, reporters, producers and industry insiders see her “innocence “ and have since written articles defending her, offered her a movie lead role in a popular franchise, and just today she received TWO Baeksang award nominations ( the equivalent of the Oscars & Emmys of S. Korea). Let’s send out positive energies and hope she wins best actress in a drama for Mr. Queen and best new actress for her movie “Innocence.” She’s too good both as an actor and person to be kept down by a bunch of zombie like lunatics who let mob mentality take over basic decency and common sense. Though it was unfortunate that even SK cable TV is so conservative & gave us the ending that they did. I braced myself for this & even made a discussion thread on it. Thanks to everyone who gave their interesting perspectives. I still think there were many wonderful things that still came from this show and let me count the ways:
1. During a time of great worldwide stress, this show gave us (at least for sure me) 90% joy and laughter
2. This hit show will launch Shin Hye Sun & Kim Jun Hyun from just great talented actors to A list ones who can be trusted to lead future hit movies & dramas. Both have several hits under their belts already.
3. What an amazing year for Shin Hye Sun, a top 5 movie & a top 10 cable show of all time.
4. The final episode’s ratings were in the 20s! So rare nowadays w so much competition for a big network never mind a cable network. I’m so glad all that amazing and talented acting and hard work was rewarded. Please support our favorite shows and actors by reading articles & watching their shows in official websites so the crew & actors who worked so hard can be properly acknowledged and rewarded. Please try to post actual links to the copyright holders and original content makers so they get the proper viewership numbers so their hard work are properly rewarded. Think how bad you would feel if someone else got paid or rewarded for your hard work? Yes, I know there’s irony there due to ending but we can give justice in real life to our wonderful Mr. Queen team.
5. I discovered how amazing an actor Na In U is (let’s not punish a great actor for portraying his character well) and now look forward to him hopefully soon becoming the lead because he has both the talents and visual of a lead.
6. Though not perfect and could have been more, I am so grateful it was not less. Thank goodness it was not the tragic mess of endings that was Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Go Princess Go. Though we didn’t get it in the exact way many of us wanted, we did get what we want - the good guys & bad guys all got what they deserved. That is way more than what most shows deliver these days bc too many shows prefer to be edgy and cynical rather than hopeful and endearing. I’m glad that a hopeful and endearing show became such a huge hit and more hopeful positive shows can follow.
Happy Valentjne’s Day and I hope we can all still support this wonderful team in its prequel Bamboo Forest. Maybe it can give explanations that can soothe some upset feelings as well.
"Five enough" was a great drama! Sang Min & Yeon Tae
I discovered Shin Hye Sun in Five Enough & was obsessed with them on & offscreen. Their chemistry on Happy Together was even stronger than in the show in some ways and the entire cast teased them mercilessly about it.
I’m in shock at how many are siding with the attempted murderer and would’ve been actual murderer of an unarmed woman if not for the one they dislike and unabashed cheater who loves another. I didn’t think this was even a competition or option. When he openly chose the other after personally trying to kill her, I def jumped allegiance. He wasn’t this terrible & it didn’t go on this long in Go Princess Go bc I definitely rooted for him in that show. He def has a lot to make up for still in this show and we’ll see if he deserves her in the end.
The female lead is so frustrating, her self-pity is getting on my nerves
I love this show overall. I don’t agree that DB is too self pitying, she’s actually too hard on herself and allows too much abuse from others. Howver, I do agree that I too get utterly fed up with some GHJ characters that she allows too many of her characters to be literally slapped and figuratively kicked around too much without any fight back. 2-3 of her shows have had amazing messages and life lessons - even if it’s what not to do seeing how her character behaves. I’ve learned to just ff those moments. I love her as an actress and have watched most of her dramas but that is a major frustrating flaw in too many of her shows .
Having said that I’m TeamYongShik, my heart literally hurts for Jong Ryul. I know how he’s treated and is still treating Dong Baek badly and I should only feel anger toward him. Yet I disagree with people who say that he only feels pity toward DB. Clearly she was the love of his life and still is. He looked so happy in those flashbacks, he constantly talks about her to his friends and hardly mentions his wife, he had that terrible incident during a baseball game (hence the nickname) on the day that they seem to hint that she left him. He searched all over for her, despite his harsh words and behavior he is trying to make it up to DB now to take care of her and his son. JR said how much he misses DB. Normally I would never condone cheating but his “wife” is clearly committing fraud and possibly polygamy as latest ep hinted, she’s a horrible person with no redeeming qualities. The reason my heart hurts so much for him is that despite his fortune & fame and surface level success like being a famous athlete and having a beautiful wife, he was cursed with messed up values and poor communication skills. Instead of valuing DBs kindness and loving treatment of him and how happy she made him, he thought having the right parentage mattered more and her humble background would embarrass him. He had to learn the hard way that shallow measures of success or what supposedly will make a good mate do not bring happiness.
Yong Shik on the other hand is blessed with knowing right away what a gem DB is despite Korean society’s or small town shallow views that she’s not good enough due to things they should have been empathizing with her over instead of judging her for. Finding true love is not the greatest blessing, it’s the ability to recognize & value it when it comes to you and having the skills to make it work and last are the greatest blessings.
Unfortunately JR doesn’t have those skills despite deep down being a good person and truly deeply still loves DB. He always has to regret saying the worst thing possible to her. I feel sorry for him because it’s not his intention or who he really is deep inside to do that, it’s just lack of essential relationship skills and awareness. He is a jerk to her but he truly didn’t mean to be and actually originally was trying to do the opposite. I hope in the end he learns those skills and finally express his love and caring in an effective way to both DB & his son so they can at least co parent together peacefully. Pil Gu deserves to have parents who get along and model treating each other well for him.
I’m firmly #TeamYongShik and think he’s one of the greatest romantic male leads ever written. He’s soft & squishy & hilarious at all the right times and firm and strong at all the right times. He’s protective of everyone, especially DB, and even protective of himself against Dong Baek when he feels hurt by her. I love multifaceted super kindhearted characters, male or female, who are also very strong and frank. Why does being kind mean you have to allow people to be mean to you or hurt your feelings without speaking up for yourself? I know easier said than done but when I see it done right like here with Yong Shik, I’m full of admiration and respect and sometimes even envy that I wish I had such a talented writer to write me such great lines & courage in such moments to say them.
How many people were laughing crying at the last scene with Yong Shik & Dong Baek at end of ep6? I’d love to see the BTS of that bc I don’t know how they kept in character and didn’t just burst out laughing. Hippo Dong Baek is my favorite. She made my blood boil til that last scene. Glad to see ratings last go past 12%. I hope it stays a hit because this will make Kang Ha Neul a superstar - deservedly so. He’s becoming one of my all time favorite male leads.
is dongbaek's mom PRETENDING to have dementia tf??
People with dementia or Alzheimer’s go in and out of their illness until it becomes full blown then they completely lose all memories and sense of reality. It’s heartbreaking and confusing when someone you care about one moment seems like their old self and don’t know you or how to use the bathroom the next .
I literally clutched whatever was next to me and flung backwards and let out a sound of pain as if I was physically punched. I am beyond distressed and saddened to hear yet another amazing human being and entertainer has lost their life to depression. When will this deadly illness be treated more often and consistently as the deadly illness that it is?
One of the scariest things is that people seem to think that depression has to sound or look a certain way to be taken seriously. How many people sound fine and even cheerful because they feel pressured by society or others to not show their sadness or burden others by being honest about their struggles? Please don’t let this just be another death you forget but remember that if you have someone in your life struggling, please comfort them and be patient and compassionate toward them as long as it takes them to get over their pain or if it’s a brain chemistry issue, please help them to get professional help and let them know how much they mean to you and the world and they are not alone.
People who kill themselves don’t actually want to die, they just feel so hopeless and think that’s the only way to end their pain or they feel the world is better off without them. Think of all the amazing people in history that could still have done so much more if only they had the right support when they needed it? Please don’t let this tragedy be in vain but let it be something that you’ll always remember to help someone else not feel the stigma of depression or feel alone or ashamed that they are struggling and can’t feel safe to reach out for help. It’s the feelings of shame, aloneness and that their problems or pain will never end that make so many people end up taking their lives.
However, it doesn’t have to be like that. My fried who’s an engineer struggle with severe depression for years to the point of being unable to work or function and almost killed himself and had to be hospitalized but luckily through the love, support and gentle care of his doctors, family and friends eventually he was able to go back to work as a rocket scientist and his judo that he loves so much. We were all clueless and didn’t know how to properly support him at first but eventually we and he learned what depression really is and how best to be a support to someone with depression. He still has to manage his depression so it doesn’t get so out of control and we all have to work hard at not letting him isolate and put up a fake strong front and be a safe harbor for him to go to when life gets stormy. It’s a daily management but one worth doing. Not everyone is blessed with such a network of support but most people only need one person to give them unconditional support and caring. One person that they feel safe to be able to ask for help from or show their pain to and know that person won’t judge them or tell them to get over it or stop being sad and smile, but allow them the grace to know it’s okay to feel what they feel as long as they feel it and they are not alone. Please consider trying to be that person for the people in your life if you aren’t already.
Some gentle suggestions so next time you are tempted to say:
1. “Get over it.” Say instead, “I’m sorry that you’re hurt or sad. I’m here for you.” 2. “Don’t be sad,” instead more helpful would be, “Its okay to be sad, we’ve all felt this way. What made you so sad? Please tell me about it.” Or “it’s ok if you don’t want to talk about it yet but I’m here for you and you’ll feel better letting it out. You are not alone” and lists all the people and things to remind them they are not alone and that they have safe non judgmental people to go to for help and support.
Many suicides are preventable if those people could be reminded in time that they matter, they are loved and cared for and they are not alone in facing whatever trouble or problems they have. That you’ll be there with them and let’s just take one step at a time. Help get them as much support as possible especially professionals trained in depression and trauma management. Judgement, harshness, impatience and turning your back on someone severely depressed is as dangerous to them as germs are to a weak very ill person trying to fight off deadly infections.
I felt compelled to share this because it breaks my heart to lose someone still so young whose gifts I’ll never see in new projects again when it doesn’t have to end like this for anyone. May she Rest In Peace and let's turn our grief into determination to help others on her behalf.
Maybe it's just me but this drama seems quite depressing and dark which I don't like, Im finding it hard to even…
Actually I find www way more depressing. I even love and enjoy ALML even more now that I FF all of Yeon Seo’s relatives’ parts. The www cast is bigger so there may seem to be more good guys but I feel the number of evil people are the same if not way more. The executive female lead that’s in the show’s poster is someone I absolutely consider a more heinous villain than any of Yeon Seo’s relatives. She betrayed and physically assaulted her close friend. I skip all her parts now. The villains here are catoonish so they don’t scare me as much. The villains on www are terrifying because such evil people do exist who think that money gives them the right to destroy other people’s lives with a snap of their fingers. Killing someone physically is no different than destroying their lives or killing them emotionally in my book.
Absolutely agree. The fact that a 9 year age gap between SL/ FL is more acceptable to people than the 2 year gap…
OMG! See how insidious it is? Even I was too indoctrinated to notice that point! I wish I could give you 100 hand clap emojis and love votes for your smart insightful comment. THANK YOU!!!!
