Well, uh-guessing this one will never, ever, ever-come out. Such a pity tbh-only show I was looking forward to, and I love NiNi. Colour grading looked so smooth and inviting the plot interesting, and the costume design on point in the trailer, but alas!
Really? You generally liked her dramas? I remember you went to the page of The Long Ballad and said you dropped…
No-I finished YAMG and it is one of my favourite C-Dramas. So.. (You can literally look at its rating on my page, and I rate dramas specific to how I feel about the drama) But also, why do I need one of Dilraba's show to be my favourite to prove that I am not a hater?
Really? You generally liked her dramas? I remember you went to the page of The Long Ballad and said you dropped…
If you remember, I said I she was the only enjoyable character in 'Diamond Lover', and that I loved her other recent drama, 'You are My Glory'-also liked her scenes in 'Eternal Love'. So yes...I do like her scenes. And yes, I did drop 'The Long Ballad'-and it was not specifically against her, either...
-And WK1, personally, you always have to leave a comment on everyone that has anything to say and I really am not a hater, she looks lovely and I have no time to hate on people I don't know in real life. I genuinely just find the colour grading to be strange and the plot boring. And if you did read my words, I did NOT say anything against Dilraba...though pointing out Dilraba in my first sentence was to show that I was surprised regardless about how this drama appealed to me. (I also said my opinions were subjective). You cannot say that anybody who doesn't love the drama has to piss off in the comment section. Additionally, I feel that my comments were not, well, spreading hate y'know-
I generally like most of Dilraba shows, but seeing the trailer a few months back had me skeptical, so I kept this at a low expectation. Therefore, amd I disappointed? Not really. (But personally, I really cannot understand the costume design or backgrounds, they're either 1. cheap, or 2. horrible at framing and accentuating features-but again, subjectively). Not against her. But three episodes in and it is really kind of boring-I recognize how the personality of the female lead is different, how there are certain role reversal tropes going on etc, but my recognition of it doesn't mean I can feel it. Also since the male lead literally hasn't spoken, we see it only from one perspective, and I feel nothing about the male lead at all. Just don't like the colors, but I think it has a lot of potential. If acted differently, I could see how this situation could be played-off as much more high-stakes and let the audience root for the female lead, but its a little bit light-hearted right now. Just from the presentation of how the merman feels being captured, the dangers of being in this tribe, etc-feel like it could make it feel so much more heightened and important, maybe change the mood. Nothing wrong with lighter tones, but it contrasts with the plot they show and I can't take it seriously.
Lastly, I feel like saying the opening scene's highlighter yellow garment is horrendous is not a subjective opinion.
Edit: So sick and tired of people saying I am an anti-. I don't hate anyone, and if you scroll through my actual page of stuff I like you'll see that. I haven't read the novel, but everything I said has been about the show. I don't expect you to need to agree with me, but why can't I voice my opinion? Lastly, have I said anything bad about Dilraba above? if you read carefully? Huh?
It's like, a super chill watch. The visuals are nice from the leads, I like the OST. The drama itself offers nothing new and is not particularly gripping. But it's like really cool background music and the plot (or the story) is super easy to follow. Overall, go into it with no expectations, don't think much about it, and finish it without needing to care about it either. No hate, it really is just like a very breezy ride along the beach edge. There's ice cream up ahead, and you'll forget about the ride soon.
The last two episodes are all the way next week~gobbled it all up way, way, way too quickly. Actually, it seems relatively concluded, but I need to know how life will settle onwards, now!
Such a comfortable watch, really, it's been a while.
Wish more were watching this one right now-it’s kind of the best one airing currently (I say this, subjectively, after I’ve watched the other newly aired shows’ first episodes)
I don’t really think the others are bad, and some other shows have some heat as well, but this is a more unexplored area I guess. Really hoping for better C-dramas in 2022; 2021 was a weird mix for sure, and the most uproar I’ve seen against dramas. This one is a good opening!
I don't get why they put so much filters on ym's face , every time she appeared, her face filters stood out awkwardly…
It’s cause the heat when filming caused her to kind of get this heat rash, which is noticeable on her face, but yeah, it’s crazy blurred and white-support more natural filters
I’ve watched the first 3 episodes, pretty interesting. Nice watch, not ground breaking, but I would say subverts my expectations completely for the C-Drama genre and I hope to see more of this genre. The acting is comfortable all around and I love how the focus has been completely on the plot. It is my current ‘reward’ for the day, looking forward to the future episodes. since I see people have been raving about something in episode 8 I will take this watch slowly until Tuesday.
I think your rating scale generally holds true for kdramas, but a LOT of Jdramas are under 8 that are solid and…
Oh yeah, I agree with this. And I do mean for Korean Dramas and Chinese Dramas (I haven't watched J-Dramas or Thai Dramas as of yet). And very honestly, I actually don't like a lot of Korean or Chinese shows rated above 9.0, but this is kind of on the general audience's favor on MDL. As for China-haha, it's true, but they don't care about MDL either. Though it's a different story for Douban, and I don't know if you know this, but at least within the more social-media present population a lot of bad shows, crappy plot points/acting/character set ups are being attacked on rn. I really think that MDL is very very lenient to scoring, maybe because we see different cultures? I have no idea.
Regardless of the drama's quality, the comment section has produced some of the funniest bits I've seen on MDL. And then regardless of the humor, I must say that a general bad consensus on drama must say that a drama is, if not 'bad', doing something that really does not cater to audiences' tastes.
Plus I also find that the comments here on the acting and drama refreshing. (I also don't see bashing at all-collectively it's slightly harsh but individually it makes sense).
I feel like people are usually a lot more welcoming/accepting of acting, plots, and such, so I don't know, is this an anomaly? Or is it just so bad that it has this chain reaction? I'd say that most shows I'd think they're pretty good, the acting acceptable for the genre, the plot at least entertaining. I've seen only 2 episodes of NWABU so I can't say for the difference in quality, but I usually find most things on MDL overrated (and by that I mean some good shows can also be overrated, it's about the view, not the action of overrating).
-Seriously, reading the comment section here to me is like a psychological experiment-
On a personal note, I think on MDL shows rated below 8 are usually not worth your time, shows rated between 8.0-8.4 alright, depending on a certain taste, 8.5-9.0 for shows that have huge contrasts in audience favor (love it or hate it), but if you get above 9.0 you're probably a great show.
I used to have an obsession with finishing a show, or finishing it up to a '0' episode-e.g. 10, 20, 30, 40, or like halfway complete a show, because it would feel 'unfinished' so I was drag through stuff I don't like. Now I don't-why should I go through crap and waste my time if I don't like it? Opinions are subjective anyways (though this means I have a long past of shows finished I rate sourly). I suppose I do want to figure out what makes a show bad, but I just follow a clear-cut procedural model of what makes a good show and I believe in my analysis.
It's kind of interesting reading about this, actually. More than being irritated, I felt bored and didn't take shows I disliked seriously. So I suppose to want to hate-watch a show, you're trying to solve a problem, and as everyone finds their rating model, I guess I found mine and everyone else just does it. Or maybe it's like gossiping and reading tabloids? I think hate-watching takes a lot of analysis and attention, and it just feels better watching things you like.
But I also seriously cannot take people seriously if they defend a clearly bad show. Everyone can like different shows, but there is a general criterion for everyone defined as good/bad.
About Weibo...Although I do have an account, it's never allowed me to access it fully except for the 1st time…
Sad thing is Weibo is now mostly a very commercial platform for celebrities (at least, their main public accounts) so for those like YM you won't see that many of her updates outside of all her commercial/business/public interests.
Oh, man, guys. Is someone already writing healing heartbreak fanfics about FJM and HS? I still can't let go of…
There are some on Chinese short video web platforms, but all in Chinese. I like that they usually follow the characterization of the characters but still HE it, and not in a forced manner-many are just small updates and only 5 to 6 in though.
Although apart from ending rewriters I also like seeing the ones in FJM's perspective, because it helps make sense of his perspective where the show cut his narrative away.
Guys I go everywhere and I see everyone praising the young actress in the first episode but am I the only who…
oml same-the amount of posts I saw on the web about this got me confused about my taste- she has a very sharp expression, posture, and looks great on camera but her acting was sometimes like, lacking- (also, certain shots do look good, and you can see determination sparkle in her eyes and whatnot) generally I don't expect much of cdrama kid actors man (I mean, I don't know even for the adult actors so...), but when people mention it, I'm just like, did we watch the same thing?

And it's cool.
(Even though Netflix honestly buys any drama, normally it's more known for a more unsuccessful CDrama to be given to Netflix)
Needs more viewers!

(There also murder at the horizon tower and the bad kids for serious dramas if you want the serious mystery type)
Ahhh Tencent, let’s see if you have a better year this year.
