Hmmm from sageuk genre I think you should give Drama Special 12: The palace a chance! It is a short movie, but oh so good in my opinion! Also I didn't see ''Duelist'' on your list and I think it is a hidden gem. yes, it is old, but this has such GOOD enemies to kinda lovers like....very poetic! It is my fav movie of all time. The ultimate royal romance would be a kdrama classic Moon embracing the sun that is chef's kiss! ''Princess' Man'' is also kdrama classic which centers around revenge and oh it is very emotional and intense. Basically the main lead wants to avenge his family and kill the daughter of his enemy, which he was to marry before. If you are more into Robin Hood stories, than ''Rebel: the thief who stole the people'' is amaaaazing retelling of original Korean tale, and has verrrry good slow burn romance!
And what recs do I want? Hmmm, forbidden romance set in historical period? Something serious and heart tugging? So many historical dramas have comedy, and I am not too fond of that. Could be something other than Korean :)
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*-thank god the writers killed off that annoying minister or whatever and didnt drag that…
The new king moved his sister-in-law and nephew in order to protect them. If they stayed, some ministers who were loyal to the old king could possibly demand his son to be put on the throne since they would consider him as a ''rightful'' owner. We can be happy that the new king didn't order their death. In past it wasn't shocking when the king would crumble under the demands of his court and send his closest family to death to ensure his right to the throne.
On your last point, it is very easy to explain. Back than, female did not hold such political power to converse with higher ups even when FL is a daughter of ex-minister. Being woman was a disadvantage back than and the only way she can get closer to the monarch is only by being a man. Remember, the king is looking for a badeuk player and there is no place for woman for that.
It's only episode 4. I think it's too early for assumptions.
Yes, but the angst radar is like off charts.... I also think that I should not lose hope because the angst started very early in the show, but how are they going to solve everything phuuuu....cant imagine. Another fact we should consider is the real history behind this drama. Yes, it is fictious and all names are made up, but it heavily implies that the main lead is king Hyojong, who died at the early age of 39 due to either poisoning, or diabetes.

I am a historical fan and I did watch it :) I simply pointed out that it is not recent, which I asked for =/ I simply watched everything that the market offered. The OP was a bit dramatic with their statement I guess because we do not have a lot of cross dressing Korean historical dramas....which I wiah for.
I have different opinion on this.Bloody Heart was boring to me while this and Queen's umbrella are slaying from…
I didn't dislike Jang Hyuk because as you said, he was a true patriot. I don't know why I couldn't get into the politics, but well, we all have dramas that sometimes do not give us the proper ''punch'' we need :)

Do you think Bloody Heart had 50/50 scale? Meaning 50% politics and 50% romance? Because honestly, I felt politics took majority of the show to the point where I found it boring ;/ If politics are done right, I don't mind it, but politics in Bloody Heart felt like a never ending story....

Honestly, I am contemplating whether I even want such ending.
Honestly, the OP in my opinion was over dramatic a bit? Chinese dramas use this trope far more than Korean dramas :/

This drama has it all: romance, food, thriller and comedy as well!
