I also understand Li Ming's brattiness (what a super word, I will use it often from now on with my son 14 yo :) )
At his age, we all behaved like him. Unfortunatelly, the world function in another way. At his age is crucial to stay focused on school or whatever form of training/education you choose if you want to have a good future. It's really cruel that exactly when the first love comes into your life, when all those hormons run around like crazy into your body, when you have so much energy and want to experience everything ... it's also the time to focus and stay put for studying. Especially in a country like Thailand, where is a huge gap between the social classes. If you are not a graduate/alumni, there are not many chances to get a comfortable and dignified life.
That life means you could also offer something good and stable to your own future children, they will not be humiliated and you could give them information and help them with they own studies... But we never think at all these when we are teenagers. The chemistry in our brain is in chaos, we don't listen. And Li Ming has also a temper, is impulsive. The best combination for trouble.
Jim knows all these. What means "good parenting"? Jim simply doesn't want Li Ming to go through the same tough life, working his butt off very long hours just to maintain himself with head above water, thinking if there are money enough to feed Li Ming and those around considered family.
For Jim, the model of success is university (he's never been even close of one), while Li Ming wants another path.
I guess Wen will function like a "mean of communication" between the two.

That is the very definition of freedom.
But there are lots and lots of people taking their freedom and rights for granted, without thinking at all about the responsibilities and obligations that come in the same package with freedoms and rights. Nothing comes for free, everything comes with a price.
The problem is that more and more people think they are "more equal" than others.

How I see the situation now, those dishes have no chance to be done.

That line had double meaning. Wen's answer was very enlighting: "Too late"...
That fire between them will never burn again, there are only ashes.

Try to focus on school, graduate, get a job and stand on own feet? Then it wouldn't be anybody's problem, only own problem. And even then it would be an obstacle with Heart's parents. As I understood, in that country parents have too much power over their grown-up children and some of them abuse that power.
Jim has already a lot of balls in the air, the only thing he's missing is Heart's parents shouting at him that Li Ming is "a pervert just like you" and "leave our son alone, never come to our house again or you'll be punished"?

I laughed at "I'm a pirate now" :)) You're SO right. The world is gone mad. You can't say anything these days because there is a category or another that feels offended. If a fictional character in a movie is played in a very realistic way, the actor playing him has a lot of problems because he only did his job. Maybe too good if viewers started mistaking him with his work :)

It's also difficult to accept the idea of moving from one place to another just like that, even if we know that emotionally Wen was detached by Alan for months now. It doesn't work like that irl, you need space and time for yourself, it's impossible not to mix the old and the new at this moment. You need some time to close the door behind you before you open another door to a new love.
His very new-ex relationship is haunting him now, has issues unfinished yet. Jim is very giving and understanding, but I wouldn't take advantage of that.

I have a conclusion: we start to understand our parents only after we get our own children. :) I am sure your dad loves you and wants the best for you. Otherwise he wouldn't care.
I live in a very liberal society, in Scandinavia, and even here are conflicts between generations. Even into a very liberal society there are preconceptions and prejudices, bigots, racists, bullies, etc. As a parent you think of all of these.

I try to understand those ppl that could produce such comments, the only excuse I can find for them is they are VERY young, unexperienced, over protected by their family/environment/social position/etc, living in a bubble of privilege. Jim is so realistic, struggling with all those problems coming like an avalanche over him. On top of it, the temptation of love, his personal feelings fighting against the many responsibilities. He doesn't want to put on Wen's shoulders his family's complications, he is proud and dignified. He did not ask once Wen for help, even he knows where and what does Wen for work (!). It's like every day comes with a new piece of shitty news and ppl here say he's not likable. I would be curious how likable these ppl would be meeting in their own lives Jim's situations. If they would have time and disposition to be "likable".
He looks at Li Ming and his innocence/naivety, his life is just started and can see his struggles already coming in a near future. As a parent, how he could not react?

They have hidden him for 3 years for being deaf. Waiting for they find out that he is also gay. And in love with no other than Li Ming.
It will be interesting.

Reading the comments below, I guess that not many people understand Jim's character. They expect the impossible from an introvert character, saying words like "flat" and "annoying".
Look at his reactions in key moments.
When Saleng announces that Praew is pregnant, the fact that he feels responsible even for that, giving them his last money. He previously told Saleng NOT to come in this situation. (Btw: why is only Saleng's responsibility? She behaves like he forced her or she wasn't there. There are many ways to avoid a pregnancy, the 1st one is to say "No". Why should other ppl be responsible for your mistakes?)
When he talked to Beam for the last time (contrast to Alan's behaviour when Alan almost trashed his place).
His calm when he had to speak to Heart's parents after the incident with the expensive liquor.
His inner strength to reject Wen so many times when is obvious that he is in love with him, etc.
His calm and respect for Gaipa and Gaipa's feelings, despite their age gap.
His eyes talk a whole book, what a great actor! In acting, less is more.

About the fact that he is not happy with Li Ming being gay: I suppose I understood different than other people . It's not joyful and neither easy to be gay in a society full of prejudice, where gay are bullied and pushed at the fringes of society. Think of Heart's parents' reaction when they are told that their precious son is gay and in love with Li Ming. I want to see that. And then judge Jim, who went through that and knows very well how painful it is. He knows his sister's (Li Ming mother) opinions, they had their frictions about being gay.
It's much more than you can see on the surface. Jim's character is very complicated.

Li Ming won't end like Jim because he will not have to take care of an infant. Jim was Li Ming's age when he took him under his care...

Li Ming is a rebel teenager not thinking about the consequences of his actions. Jim is an adult who had to take humiliations and rejects from the society because he is gay and economically limited. He knows that a fight against money and power (Heart's parents) is lost before it starts. Heart was an asshole in the beginning.
Jim took on his shoulders a huge responsibility in raising up Li Ming, giving him everything he had/has. Li Ming is just a brat at this stage, thinking he is capable to manage if he makes mistakes, but he obviously couldn't. If something worse happened to Heart, breaking a leg or injured his head, etc., would Li Ming have been capable to take responsibility of that? Jim is passed through life, has experience, has learnt how is to be humiliated and how is to be forced to give up own dreams and desires - one of the reasons was because he had Li Ming to raise, give him a safe environment, food and care every single day. Li Ming should, at his age, understand all these and be at least respectful to his uncle. I don't say he shouldn't have his share of fun as a teenager, fall in love with whoever he feels like - but listen to your guardian who has a huge resposibility of you, you eat his food, drink his water, live in his house, you owe him everything including your life, etc. Even if Jim never asks for thankfulness or obedience, respect is the minimum that he could give Jim. Especially because he never saw Jim doing something shameful or degrading, working his ass every day of his life.
Only a parent could understand Jim's state of mind now.
