The more episodes I watch the more I get the feeling that I'm waiting for/anticipating something that won't happen and I will be disappointed. I don't know what it is. There is something missing... the chemistry between all the leads? The plot is interesting, the cast is great, but... there's something missing there. At the moment all of them are so cold. It misses... like, these scenes of bonding between these people? Like... you know that Yan Yan and Mingyi love their child, but they didn't show us that they loved the kid until it was sick (no hugs, kisses, etc, like the kid didn't existed). All these people don't spend time together besides the politics. There were more heart warming scenes in the beginning of the drama. Now I feel like it changed... The plot focuses too much on action and politic talks. I like these things but it's too much of it. Give those people a break and show us they daily life! Honestly, we have no idea how these guys deal with their decisions and relationships on the daily basis, when it's really interesting because it's so messed up.
Questions for the ones that have watched the eps since De Rang returned up until now ep 36. Has Yan Yan even worried…
It looks more like she tries hard to keep the distance from Derang. She is holding the feeling and tries hard to focus only on politics when she is with him. But I see that there are many emotions, she stares at him so intense. She is sad when he marries Li Si. Even angry at some point.
I enjoyed very much the first half of this drama. But the later arc - Warehouse 11 - is so much different, that I put it on-hold on ep 21. Now I went back to it, watched ep 22 and still it isn't as interesting as it was in the beginning :( I prefer it when they are together as a team in the tomb and now they are splitted and there isn't any tomb in the story :(
Just my thoughts//: no attacking please ^^Whenever Cheng Yi and Zhao Wen Hao (9th prince and 10th prince) are…
I'm wondering... Wasn't Zhao Wen Hao portrait the 10th prince this way? In my opinion he was supposed to act like he couldn't control his emotions well. He is the youngest prince. But this is only the way I feel. I don't know.
I've watched 10 episodes so far and some scenes made me laugh, but I don't know if I can endure it to the final episode. The FL is immature, childish and lacks some intelligence. I feel bad for the general seeing the mess she makes around him. I see it's done for the comedy but it's ofter more annoying than funny. There are bunch of great comedies with smart leads, so it could be done better. I guess you need to be in the right mood to enjoy watching this drama.
This comment is exactly what I came to look for. I stopped watching in the early episodes waiting for subtitles…
Same here. I watched first 7 episodes some time ago, then I stopped, because there wasn't subs. Back then I really liked it and it made me laugh so much, but at the moment I find it hard to get back into the story. I've watched ep 8 and 9 and they were just okay, a little bit boring. I guess it's just hard to get back into the story after the break :(
You can watch it legally & in a much better quality on either Viki or WeTV (links above Cast)
After thinking about it for some time I decided to purchase the WeTV VIP. We should support the legal streaming sites. Thanks to them we can enjoy many c-dramas with english subtitles :) I remember when I first started watching c-dramas (around 6 years ago) it was very hard to find dramas with english subs and the videos almost always were poor quality. There were so many dramas I couldn't watch because the legal streaming sites weren't interested in getting the license. I used to worry a lot that the drama that was on air back then wouldn't get any subtitles. Nowadays most c-dramas are being translated and I'm very happy for that ^^ We should all suport these sites so they will get more licenses :)
Normally in dramas like this I would 100% agree with you. I think it is so ridiculous when women of high statuses…
I see your point and I agree. He could be more honest and loyal to Derang and talk to him. Instead he choose to keep it as a secret and openly betray him.

I have Viki subscription and the quality is much better but they update episodes slowly. Now I'm thinking about cancelling my Netflix subscription to get WeTV (too many tv subscription) - WeTV is getting more and more chinese dramas. I think it might be worth it. USD here isn't cheap :(
To each their own I guess...If a story is labeled Romance then I'm about the romance, it the story is mostly political…
I think that power is more important than love, if you used it to help all people living in your country. I like watching such sacrifice - you exchange your happiness for the power that makes you able to help many people improve their life. That means your life was worth living. I like politics if there are good people fighting bad people for the sake of country. Love can bring happiness for a short time to two people. Power can bring happiness to many people for decades or centuries. While watching historical romance with a powerful main lead he often dreams about a peacuful life - living quietly in some small village. Main leads tend to have such dream, but they can't accomplish it, because in the end they want to sacrifice their life for other people (when they see their suffering). The more power you have, the more you can do for them. And the more power you handle, in more risk is your family and your close ones. So you need to gain more power to help more people and to secure your family.
I see most people complain about the plot now, and here I still enjoy it :) I like the concept of the rationality and responsibilty above the love. I don't feel the chemistry between Yan Yan and Derang - it looks a bit like a puppy love. Life isn't all about the love. Sure, I like it when the main couple stay loyal through the hardships etc., but this is the life - make the rational choice. I like seeing the sacrifice of love for the country (it's refreshing). I like the development of the characters. At the moment I'm really hoping that Yan Yan will show us her way of ruling the country. Sadly she doesn't do much right now.
About Mingyi - I like his character. He is young, he went through the hell, he didn't choose his path, he believ that he may die soon, and he is weak - but he is weak because the late emperor made him that way. I very sympathize with him. He has a good heart and he just want to be a good ruler, but he doen't have many people on his side. I understand his choices. I hope he won't die too soon.
Han Derang on the other side let me down. He was supposed to be such a strong character, loyal to Mingyi, loyal to the country and just because he fall for the woman from the higher class that he couldn't be with (it was said in the beginning that she was to marry into the royal family), and because this woman was smart and suitable to become an Empress... he left Mingyi and acts all angry for long time. He is like "yes, we were supposed to rule this country together, but I'm angry with you, Mingyi, so I'm leaving all these political problems and reforms, and people to you. You deal with it yourself." - and he leaves the kingdom to the weak, sick ruler. He was supposed to help him. It's like he leaves all the country's problems. Man, it's only a woman, geeze, there are people out there that die every day because Mingyi struggle with this fight on his own. Just help the whole country, man! You live in this country too!
