I agree, it is very interesting, I'm just afraid the drama won't cover the whole life of the first emperor. Then we would have to wait for the sequel another couple of years and probably with different actors playing the main roles.
William Chan is so cute <3 Him chasing the corgi was priceless. I also have a corgi and I can tell it is very hard to catch it (and not step on it) once it decide to run away :D
I love historical dramas. I get really thrown off when the casting choice or the visual is so far off like having…
They should have just cast a teenager or a man in his early 20. It would be easier to age him later. At first I thought that the story will focus on the times when he was already the emperor (30+), but we are over 30 episodes and he is still a teenager or 20 at most! What... no!
And talking about the pace of the drama... If they keep it like this, we won't get to see him unify all the kingdoms until the ep 78. I hoped that we would get to see all his life as a ruler. And how he turns into a cruel tyrant, obsessive about his power and immortality, and how his rules impact the society. He is such an interesting person, so please... let's move on with the plot.
Why does Lu Buwei keep caressing his belly? Is it the way to portrait his arrogance and high status? I don't know how to interpret it but he does it so often, it's weird, but definitely intentional.
What amazes me is that people who don't like this type of story line watch the drama just because it is hyped,…
The genre isn't the problem here. It's other things but I guess for every person they would be different. For example, I had been waiting for this drama to air for 3 or 4 years (it was so postponed). It was censored and the story we're watching is very different from the original. I dislike the changes they made. I also dislike most characters' behavior. I keep watching it because it is refreshing from other historical c-dramas but I wonder if I should drop it because it's mostly disappointing. The drama is hyped because it was postponed for a very long time. So people are curious what the final product is. I'm also watching it just out of my curiosity, but mostly on a higher speed. And it is bad. China can do much better at the moment. The romance here is such a wrecked story and it is tiring. You won't get what you want. They just made the main leads misunderstanding each other and keep it like it for the most time of the drama. Bo Wang's behavior is spiteful and he doesn't deserve the female lead. The female lead acts childish. The politic (which is an important part in historical c-dramas) is a mess. There is no fantasy theme that we expected to see after years of waiting. After years of waiting we just get a mean, agressive male lead and a childish female lead. This drama reminds me a bit of older c-dramas with abusive, hateful male leads and ill-fated love that were popular some years ago.
I get the impression she's fictional. Ying Zheng never had an empress or favourite lady or something.
Is she going to be his "love interest"? I doubt they would add romance to this story. So far they stick to the true events, and like you said there isn't any record of the empress or favorite concubine. They didn't record it or Ying Zheng was just too focus on himself (like a true narcissist - incapable of love).
I'm almost 100% sure this series is supposed to aim for new Xianxia watchers and/or a younger audience. The lenght…
I agree, I have some thoughts that this is a drama for even children audience. I can imagine kids would enjoy watching it like I used to love watching Power Rangers when I was a kid :D
Even though we know the history of the first Emperor of China and other important people from that period (like Lu Buwei, Li Si, etc), still watching this drama is very thrilling and intense! It's a very well made drama with nice battle scenes, interesting dialogues and intrigues. I enjoy it greatly :) Highly recommend to any chinese history + culture lovers :)
