A badass female lead! :) I like the first 2 episodes. Kind of refreshing :) A supernatural drama that isn't a comedy, but serious and a little dark, is a rare treasure ;)
Watching it on youtube is a bit hard... It looks like they cutted too many scenes. Watching it feels like they cutted importand scenes between and also some dialogues.
Im still currently in ep 4, and find the drama kinda slow (the way they talk and with all the respectfully bow)…
It's a bit slow and there is not much action. But I enjoy it anyway. I fastforward or skip some scenes, dialogues and I still manage to understand the plot. You don't need to focus too much on it to enjoy it, so it is a nice drama to watch while doing something else (cooking, cleaning, washing). The main couple is sweet. I mostly watch it for the cast. I missed Wallace Chung ^^'
The female lead is so stiff. The actress - Zhang Zi Yi - really do a bad job, in my opinion. I haven't seen any of her other dramas, but here she is so... stiff? Like she would force herself to act here. Her smiles seem fake. The way she moves doesn't look natural. Zhou Yi Wei and Liu Duan Duan make the drama watchable, but it feels like many good scenes were spoiled because of the bad acting of the female lead. I was okay watching her at the beginning, but meanwhile as it the drama was airing, I watched some other dramas (for example The Rise of The Phoenixes, The Legends) where the female actresses did a really goob job. Comparing Zhang Zi Yi to others... she does it so, so bad. Nothing feels natural about the female lead.
Dang it! Based on the synopsis alone, I thought I might enjoy this drama, but ML has more than one wife and sons…
In my opinion this is refreshing, interesting and more realistic than other historical c-dramas. The higher status the man had, the more concubines he would get.
A bitter love story, a very long, amazing journey with deep characters and very interesting plot. Strong male lead and strong female lead. I'm very happy that I found time to watch this drama and engage in the story. Take your time, don't rush it, don't skip scenes or you may lose important small things (some small gesture, some words). This is a story about sacrifice. I'm very happy that this drama introduced me to Chen Kun - such an amazing actor!
This dramas is all about the smart dialogues and political schemes. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is looking for a romance or some action/wuxia theme. Prepare some popcorn, sit comfortable and observe, pay attention to the details. Focus on dalogues. Only then you can truly enjoy the show. Observe the characters' growth. All of them has their struggles, painful memories, grudge and goals to achieve. Ning Yi is a truly badass and his character evolve along the story. Try to understand him. Most characters try very hard to not act on impulse, don't be emotional ('cause being emotional means you have weaknesses, you can be manipulated, your closed ones will be in the danger and in the end you will lose your life). They try to stay focus, act rational and all the things that they hide inside of them you can feel, if you engage in the story. Actors did their job just splendid. I'm totally in love with the whole story, even though some scenes were edited or cutted. Well... Here comes China.
If you have some free time, try it. I love it from the very beginning, from the 1st episode to the last. Maybe you will too.
After finishing this drama I'll definitely suffer from a drama slump for some time. I swear, I could watch another 70 episodes of it, and wouldn't regret nor waste my time. Just give it a try.
Hope you enjoy the remaining bits of the drama, and feel free to stop after 63 if you don't want to see the horrific…
Thank you! :) I don't mind sad or bad ending. What's matter the most is the drama itsfelf and the whole adventure (the journey) along the way. The ending is only a little piece of the drama.
Thank you for your review! I've been enjoying this drama greatly, but now I'm on episode 48 and I feel confused about the editing. While watching it, it was very clear that some scenes were cutted and the arc seems rushed. Thank to your review, now I understand the reason. Such a shame... We could have more episodes of this amazing drama. Now I'm a bit worried about watching the rest, but I'm going to anyway. The acting is too good to let it pass.
