Didn't you read my comments? I had finished reading the novels several times over already. It is precisely because what was mentioned here differ from what I read from the novel that I brought up this discussion. And why am I "having attitude" when all I did was asking proof from the novel to support the claims, since the replies I've gotten from above were either from memory or quoted from fan sites? If what I said is incorrect, just point me to the chapters and I'll be glad to stand corrected. How do you expect me to be convinced if what was said was not canon? And you're criticizing me when you've not even read all my comments? Perhaps the one having attitude issue is you?

Erm no, ZL was never referred to as HL's Tao companion. I'm very sure of this, because while we're discussing, I'm using the search function searching for the keyword "道侣" on volume 2. HL only referred to NGW as his Tao companion and no one else. Here is the excerpt from the novel (that I found using the search function):
"紫灵虽非他的道侣，但在其心目中，却与南宫婉一样，有着某种特别的意义。“（although ZL is not his Tao companion, but in his heart, she carries a special meaning, just like NGW)
This is the only sentence the word "道侣" is related to ZL in the entire volume.

They were lovers and had an affair but not married. Please see my reply to SpectralGhost above. Yup I'd read the novel (both volumes), and finished multiple times already, as I read them to pass time during my spare time.

Zi Ling and Han Li were lovers and did have a relationship/affair, but they didn't get married. NGW was HL's Tao companion and they didn't get married either, at least the author didn't pen it down as such. Having a relationship/affair and marrying are completely different things. There are chapters describing HL & ZL's relationship (e.g. in volume 2 chapter 1313-1326 where the two spent more than hundred years together), but there is simply no such thing as they are married.

No he didn't "marry Silvermoon/violet spirit/others", I don't know where you get this from. Perhaps you could point me to the chapter? In the last chapter of immortal realm (volume 2), in HL's retreat, there were only these people: HL himself, NGW, their little daughter, ZL, and Crab Taoist. Yuan Yao was not in the house but NGW mentioned she was out doing stuffs.
(OK I get it your "violet spirit" means ZL, but HL didn't "marry" her either, although NGW had accepted her and she was with them as a big family at the end.)

I don't know why some people like to say Han Li had many lovers and in actual fact he didn't. If you read the novels you'll know Han Li had only 2 true lovers, Nangong Wan and Zi Ling (Wang Ning was her original and less used name). He treated the rest of the girls as best friends. The author had actually dedicated chapters describing HL's time spent in a relationship together with NGW and ZL. For the rest of the girls it was just their adventures. You can say HL was their love interest but saying they are HL's lovers is simply incorrect.
Mu Peiling was taken in as concubine upon her request, to help her avoid an arranged marriage, on the condition that she would practice a technique to help HL in ascension. But eventually HL did it himself without any help, and Mu Peiling was let go, and nothing happened between them.
Yuan Yao had a bit more chemistry with Han Li during their encounters. She died during her ascension from the spiritual realm to immortal realm, and HL went back in time to save her, and in the last chapter of immortal realm she was in Han Li's circle together with NGW and ZL, but the author never said anything about relationship other than friendship between the two. She was not even present in volume 2 except the very end.
Yin Yue/Silvermoon (Ling Long was her original and less used name) served HL in the human realm, she eventually fell in love with him, but it was only unrequited love, and after returning to the spiritual realm she had to practice a technique to help her forget her feelings towards HL. Again she was not present in volume 2.
And wth is "Feng Xue"? "Bing Feng" (Ice Phoenix) is it? She helped HL ascend from human realm to spiritual realm, he rescued her from kidnap, and she helped HL taught his disciples in spiritual realm. Again there is nothing except friendship between the two.

This reminded me a scene in the donghua: Fearing Nangong Wan might kill him after their one night stand, Hanli sent her an "Appearance Fixation Pill" as good will via her disciple, but NGW was furious and smashed everything in her room, as she thought HL was insinuating she was an old woman😂 But later she calmed down, accepted the pill and took it, and that was how she stayed young till the end😂

I started it watching donghua but couldn't wait to know the complete story so I picked up the novels (there are 2 volumes), and now had already finished them several times over😂

Erm, I read the 2 volumes several times over already (to pass time). I read only during my spare time and about 2-4 hours a day, usually before bed time. Each round took only about 3-4 months.

My suspicion is they select the cast according to the anime😂

In the novel Senior Chen actually looked down on Hanli at the beginning, because she was from a cultivation clan and Hanli was nobody and didn't look promising (he had fake spiritual root and not selected by any sects).

Yeah, e.g. in the donghua, there are not a lot of time dedicated to NGW. In fact in the original novel, the emphasis is on Hanli's cultivation and romance are just "side quests" that appear once a while here and there😂 Out of thousands of chapters, you could count with your digits the chapters allocated for the actual romance with NGW/ZL, although there are quite a number of chapters for Hanli to rescue NGW/Ziling or their adventures together. But I'm quite sure in the drama they will add more to cater for female audiences😂
