The reality check that one classmate survived because she loved him broke his heart, especially when he didn't correct the lie about the hornet bite and felt that protecting the secret of him being an epileptic was more important than the truth. Plus, he really didn't love her in return. His acknowlegement that he was not loved by her, based on near death experiences caused him to wrap everything up and leave her alone. I think he tried to give her a final gift of telling her in an obtuse way that she is safe if she follows her heart - it is ok. Him walking away in the middle of the street to me was not due to a curse but sort of suicidal. My guess is, based on previews, he disappears, she in turn goes to look him up, maybe in their home town. His efforts seem to bring unintended consequences - from his job at the casino, to stalking someone he loved to try and break her curse.
I am hoping for a final scene where they heal each other from unintended consequences and find true, love that is superior to infatuation.
The ratings on MDL are absolutely ridiculous and unreliable for anything outside a particular genre. Regardless ,I am enjoying the tension and setting the table for a high stakes corporate battle.
As a side note it was touching in the credits after episode 1 that paid respects to the late actor Lee Yoon Hee, who played the Realtor in a cameo
This drama hit me hard with the feels. A non tropey slice of life about the life long love of a couple, all the way from childhood. Cliche? I don't think so in the setting of a small fishing village during that era. Insight into the repressive social contraints of a patriarchical society, that can't defeat their love. I am still wiping my tears. The entire cast is exceptional all the way down to 2nd leads, support and guest roles.
That last scene where his mother is carried in a flowered bier across the bridge seemed also like a metaphor - of when the dead cross a river when they die. It was beautiful, heartbreaking and with a setup like that, we have time to soak in the visuals of that scene instead of rushing through it. He learns his mother took the lead to drive the girl away, but he also understands his mother doing it out of love, and the guilt she felt reading his flawed paper which he thought he proved she wasn't a witch. The coversation on her death bed on if she believed in God and Heaven, and his trying to talk to her as a son and a scientist about taking the comfort of faith in the afterlife. These types of conversations are real and painful with loved ones facing death. For those who think this is slow, or not your cup of tea, that's ok - move on. But this drama is getting undeserved hate when episodes that haven't even aired yet getting low ratings. Pretty sad to take such efforts.
was i the only one who disliked that? idc about their history, just show the zombie story
this is not the drama for you - it is a comedy in a zombie setting. If you want straightforward zombie content there are others that are a far better fit for you.
Episode #4 was so good - the back story of the leads relationship was totally Wes Anderson style. Died laughing with the classroom setup, every single student wearing plaid, etc.
I’m having the same problem in the US. Can’t find it on Disney+ or anywhere else. Maybe a time delay? I’m…
Im thinking time delay too as Hulu not listed as where to view. I remember for Revenant it was a few months delay. Super frustrating that Disney can’t negotiate better timing for rights
Currently on episode 4. Is LJY gonna vape in every scene? I feel like it’s subliminal advertising at this point.…
The smoking and vaping is really bothersome as in the US there was a huge effort to deglamorize this habit. Especially since so many minors vape and the damage done.
I think that in all the netflix dramas some character smokes... in other company's dramas there are not so many…
There was a ton of smoking in Disney's Worst of Evil. Study Group on Viki has high schoolers smoking - although presented as delinquint type of behavior. Newtopia on Amazon had smoking. The movie Bogata, City of the Lost had smoking. I am definitely seeing more of it everywhere.
An enemy to lovers trope, starting in childhood and reconnect as adults. The FL assuming burden of supporting father, but can someone please help since I missed it, but where the hell is her brother? Did he disappear or something?
What resonated with me is what happens in a realationship with one person caring for (NOT ABOUT) someone else. Jun took up the responsibility to care for his little brother when their parents died. He, in essense lost his youth. Also, he had nobody to confide in or help relieve the stress of those responsibilities, although a friend who watched Gyeom while he stayed home and watched videos. Even though these are choices, the weight of burdens build up. The person being cared for has guilt on being cared for and think the other views them as an impediment in life. The other understands this is a choice, but burdens the one they are caring for because they never put their own needs first and that adds to the guilt. I am not sure I am articuating this correctly but as a caregiver for a spouse, and then a sibling, these blowups happen. And we feel guilty when these blowups happen. And we feel deep grief when the other passes and that we had felt these feelings. This drama had it's highs and lows, but I think they nailed this dynamic and the heavy toll on both ends very well.
I am curious as to where this will go, as Netflix previews show something different so I was expecting a completely different plot. The promos showed what looks like an impending disaster for earth, what looks like people in traffic trying to escape, and our leads saying something to the effect of shall we go up? So I was expecting something similar to Armageddon.
Having said that I think I am one of the rare birds who is enjoying this drama and interested on how the will wrap up, with once again our ML taking on the load of punishment because of coersion by CEO - who plays the evil billionaire focused solely on his needs - THAT seems to hit a bit close to home these days.
Out of curiousity I looked up what is allowed as research in the space station. Human cells and stem cell research is ok, but as for embryo research the NIH has banned that, and in fact a researcher was sanctioned for using NIH funded facility to research DNA of embryos to screen for defects as part of pre-implantation. What was wild is the article I read was on the same page as an article about the space station and the need for Russian spacecraft to increase shielding for protection against space debris. https://www.nature.com/articles/385190c0.pdf
I was glad to see Lee Jun Young shine in this drama, doing so well after Impossible Heir, which I strongly disliked. I was struck by the notion that these characters felt lonely, even with friends nearby. This loneliness theme I something I am noticing more and more - in the middle of Lost, and the sense of loneliness and the struggle to make an impact in this world trying to make a living doing what you like - the realization that sometimes we do live very ordinary lives vs how we envisioned our dreams and expectations - how some gave up and switched, and others managed to hang on. Not my favorite drama, but it did give me a lot to think about.
side note - I am saddened to see more and more use of cigarettes and smoking in these dramas. It was ubiquitous growing up as a kid seeing smoking, and the huge effort for the entertainment industry to change and not glamorize something that costs so many people their health. It is my wish that they would reconsider this. Sorry to be so preachy, but my mom bought into the glamour of smoking and could never give it up, and spent her last years very ill as a result.
I tried to give this show a chance because it is a zombie movies, but it sucks! Canceled after half a first episode!
More of a comedy in the style of Anderson movies than simply a zombie movie. The absurdity such as sticking to elevator rules in the middle of a zombie attack or prideful bragging about safety features of sprinkler system when defending against zombies with fire. If this style of humor not your cup of tea there are many other kdrama options.
How many years were wasted by not communicating. This is a tragedy. Especially frustrating as the FL character tries to do everything on her own and gets it so wrong. I want to throw a brick at the TV. Also I am only feeling a connection with the 2nd leads
Some people either blindly love or blindly hate idols. Valid criticism should be accepted, just as people enjoying…
criticism is fair game, but looking at the comments section it is absolutely rediculous. People rating this drama as a 1 based on 1 or 2 episodes. Judging the entire drama on their bias for or against Jisoo. It has a Wes Anderson type of feel, and if that isn't your cup of tea, ok. But some just post bashing comments over and over, whereas elsewhere on the internet people really enjoy it for the same reasons I find it entertaining. To each their own, but some are seriously overdoing it.
I am hoping for a final scene where they heal each other from unintended consequences and find true, love that is superior to infatuation.
