It was her handkerchief. Picking up a woman's hankie was flirtation 101 of that era🤭.
His frustration at the end was peaked because XFF was the better choice except for her lack of power but now she got power because he killed her but she no longer trust him now that she has power and HIS wife wants to take her perfect self with power to be with "Duke Su"

He got progressively angrier and disrespectful towards PW because of this as well. He was look at you brainless brat 🙄 😒.

😅🤭🤣 I've never enjoyed watching a character unravel like watching SYR on The Double. It was honestly such a pleasure.

They made great characters on this show. I really appreciated how good people aren't only good but have to choose to be good. Like during the famine arc and JL wanted to escape but had to be reeled back in to remember her principles. I enjoyed them giving redemption arcs to Ru Yao and Consort Li and in some ways Ji Shuran- she doesn’t repent but you understand her struggles and you empathise with her choices even though you are satisfied she got punished.

🙈🙈🙈🫣🫣🫣 I'm sorry and ashamed but everytime SYR goes full evil like when he said "I never thought of deceiving Your Highness, it's just that even I myself, can't tell which words I say now are true or which are false"; I'm like 😉🫠😍🤭😏.
It's giving Xie Wei (SOKP); It's giving ending arc Zhong Xi Wu (SOT)

Someone mentioned earlier that SYR shouldn't have been able to figure out the fake pregnancy plot but you can see he was on guard for tricks once Duke Su gave up the fish talisman. He definitely wouldn't take it for granted that the barren Wanning miraculously became pregnant at that point in time.

They invited Wanning to that banquet to feed her dog food🤣🤣🤣

SYR is probably more his mother's son than the righteous man he tried to be to fulfill his father's wishes; the righteous man that Fangfei fell in lov and believes she married.
Meeting Fang Fei helped him stay in the light but the way she and her family were happy to stay poor and powerless for righteousness sake was probably stressful for him. Meeting Wanning would have relieved that stress and allowed him to be closer to his true temperament. XFF would have let him keep feeling like a good man and PW would have let him fulfill his ambitions the way he really wanted. He intended to keep both of them but Wanning broke the balance, so he was in a slight daze till Fangfei came back as Jiang Li.
He tries to keep up the righteous scholar act or her again but by Ep 32, he realises that ship has sailed so he exposes his true self infront of Fangfei and by proxy Wanning also no longer gets the benefit of the "mild-mannered" scholar and only gets to meet SYR, the spider from there on.

She created the situation of the Hanlin Scholars rejecting to perform with her so SYR would be forced to come close to her. That created alot of gossip about JL and SYR which is typically bad for an unmarried woman. I felt like XFF was taking liberties with JL's reputation that she wouldn't have if it was her own life or if JL was alive to reclaim her name. A moot point since JL is dead and gone. I understand and I liked the "character journey decision" that she isn't completely stable or logical in her decisions in this arc, so much has happened to her and there's so much to do, far above what she could be "ready" for; so it makes sense. But I was sad to see it.

XFF/JL- SYR scenes make me uncomfortable because it's so emotional and "real" and I hate conflict 🙈🤭. He is so unrepentant and wants her to get over his "dark side" like Wanning does while she is still hopeful the man she married is still there and would repent and do the right thing.

Fang Fei dragging Jiang Li’s name/reputation through the mud for her scheme in Ep 30-31 never sat right wih me.
I'm really trying to pay attention better because I didn't really understand what she was trying to do but my skin can't seat through Fangfei/ Jiang Li- Shen Yu Rong interactions. I feel so uncomfortable.

I go from 0 to DELULU quickly, so I stay away. After LBFAD I went down a rabbit hole for Esther and Dylan🤪 so especially when I love the onscreen chemistry, I won't watch anything 😅

Yep, we noticed and so did Duke Su and Princess Wanning. I think only SYR thought otherwise.

In the novel that scene didn't happen. The archery plot in the novel happens at the exam and Jiang Li shoots at Ms Meng's arrow causing it to ricochet towards the Princess- it looked like Ms Meng shot off target to accidentally hit the Princess and no one but the Duke noticed JL's involvement or thought it was deliberate.
The scene is closer to what happens in another book by the author: The rebirth of a Malicious Empress of Military Lineage.

Anyway I included Yanxi and Rebel Princess in my possible next show, I'll also be watching out for... similarities!

I try never to watch actors outside of their performances. I can watch a million edits of Duke Su and Jiang Li but I won't allow myself watch WXY and WJY. I feel like that's how you start having unrealistic expectations of people who were just doing their jobs.

I've been on a rewatch streak and I'm currently rewatching The Double. Did: Kunning Palace, Ming Lan and I've mentally queued Love Like a Galaxy for when I'm done.

It's a very good adaptation. I would say somewhat better than the novel but both are equally satisfying.

In the novel, the female lead is a "Mary Sue" and is perfect in everything and unbeatable but in the drama she has to struggle and suffer some losses before succeeding. They both work for their chosen medium.

In the novel, Xue Fang Fei, Duke Su and Jiang Li’s backstories and revenge don't really intersect but have to be completed one after the other while in the drama everything is connected. This change made the drama better in my opinion as the story flows better.
