I didn't like see and hearing the same piece for like 1h for the signal song, but it turned out to be a little less offensive than I imagined. I am just thinking they should better guide the boys during it, like if they need to lip sync while dancing, and one of the boys forgets or doesn't really know due to stress, just point it out and give a pass.

I do think they had based their scores for the most part with the effort and talent they displayed for the mid evaluation and final performance tho. Nothing wrong with that, but it didn't need +20 repeats of the song either. Just seems pointless to send in trainees with such little experience

Overall many talented trainees, so looking forward to it!

I am curious how they will change stuff from the novel to this series, still a good story to work with and so far a good start

Can’t rlly tell if they want it to succeed because the way they’ve been promoting it is so weird especially…
Well seeing fantasy boys and BAE173 having their top members choose this show instead of project 7 makes you feel they want the high profile members. Just wonder how this will go, it seems more controversial

At least they gave up on a new fantasy (pun intended cfr Fantasy boys), and are giving old produce 101 vibes (minus voting scandals :p?). Overall nostalgic and fun to watch
On Starlight Boys Oct 29, 2024
It looks as if they need to dance the signal song for a long time until 12 drop half dead lolz. First time they get kicked out before the signal song, making you wonder if they just better had opted out to eliminate zero stars from the start.

Also the level difference in insane. People with almost no experience competing against well established basic package members. The pressure from IQIYI is clear, they want this to succeed

Only the name sucks tho xD
With the 'friendship time' pickings being a bit different than last season, it gives more of the obvious pairings that will follow most likely, than with the forming of new pickings and couples like last time. It is fun to watch the new generation etc, but I think the focus is more on the 'will be most likely a couple' pairings than a general who ends up with who vibe. Might be just me, but looks like this season is more promotional for the couples as I had feared (most have projects already worked upon)

AuauPor looks so cute😭 do people not see the vision like i do?
Cute but they can't work like that with Domundi as they are just really good friends. So in a way they are not that suited to be 'coupled' from a personal view I think :p

Sorry, but I think the information you have is wrong, because if you really saw School 2013, would you know that…
No not censored like in China. This is an original series (not based on a bl book).

The producer was tasked to film a school series which wanted to highlight actual issues in Korea at the time, violence and bullying. The reason they made the plot not explicit bl is the taget audience being highschoolers (no media station would have given it a go in conservative Korea to air, if it was at that time explicit bl)

As such they had the original plot of one of the boys ending up with a gf, but due to the major success the series had (it was after all Lee Jong Suk's breakthrough series) and the general shipping of the boys, they opted out of the gf and focused more on the bromance. So in a way it was censored to not make it explicit heterosexual lolz

Just to confirm. I was watching it live and not rewatched it years later. As the official relationship chart released by the production team mentioned (see link under), it was canon to have them couple up.

The producer had the original idea of making it a bl, but the series was set during school and being conservative Korea opted out of the idea. Even Lee Jong Suk mentioned he felt like Go Nam Soon was in love with Park Heung Soo, and would not have minded playing the role being gay.

As is common knowledge, script is always changed in Korea and picking up on the elements that play well / need to be changed depending on the reception of the general public. For this they made the relationship between Go Nam Soon and Song Ha Kyun gone (as the public shipped the boys more lolz) and focused on the bromance and violence (was an actual problem at the time, still is with bullying).

https://entertainmentaasia.wordpress.com/2012/12/17/school-2013-to-do-away-with-lee-jong-suk-and-park-sae-young-love-line/

Only those who watched it at the actual time may know this, as this all played out during the live airing of the show in 2012-2013 (long ago lolz). Hope that clears all up ;)!

I don't think they will make Saint have a girlfriend here. In interview the cast said that there is no romance…
Oh I didn't find one that said that, only that copyright issues always hinder explicit bl since it original source has the rights to veto as well. Hence no explicit BL, but might have no gf and be open for interpretation to the 'are they a couple' part. Shipping does the rest like in the original series. Nobody remembers he ended up with a gf there anyways lolz xD.
On High School Frenemy Oct 28, 2024
I think they will not make this a true BL, otherwise they would have made it obvious in promotions etc since GMM isn't too shy to use and profile it. They will most likely keep it high bromance/borderline relationship like in the original Korean 'School 2013' way.

Just for reference, while some main plot between the boys is identical, most is just creatively changed to fit a new narrative in the remake. Original story had a multiple people focus on the struggles during school (hence the series name 'school'). While the gangster part was a part in the flashbacks between the main boys, it was more bullying and other themes that got attention in the Korean series.

Also in the original school 2013, the boys were more shipped because of the story, chemistry and good flow of the story. BUT: they did not make it bl, the main character Go Nam Soon/Saint ended up with a girlfriend lolz.

I think I remember an interview of the director being willing to make it a bl at the time, but decided in the conservative sphere and being a school series, not to expand on it and make it more bromance like, still it was a breakthrough for Lee Jong Suk to the bigger fame and forming a lasting friendship with co-star Kim Woo Bin.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They made significant changes overall, but in a way they keep the major plot line of the 2 boys being really close to borderline relationship that end up splitting apart due to Go Nam Soon/Saint doing something to Park Heung Soo/Shin. In the end they meet again in discord, but slowly ammend their bond again. It was however never romantic in the korean story (but it gained a lot of popularity due to the strong bromance and having great chemistry, better than the couple that did form at the end with Go Nam Soon and Song Ha Kyung). Also it made real time friends out of Kim Woo Bin and Lee Jong Suk playing both characters and bonding in real life as well due to having similar backgrounds :D

Story itself is predictable BUT the acting and chemistry was clumsy good it worked! You just kinda get sucked into the story and enjoy the ride. Cheers to the actors, they made it work!

Dark and twisted chocolate to like. Wish they put more productions out of good story plots like these! 3x cheers to the actors, they did a great and convincing job and I loved how they just kinda included everything. No easy thing! Go watch now if you haven't
I like domundi in general for focus on multitalent ship advertisement in a way. Comfy couples form and perform together in different fields for an array of interests that they also can pilot direction for. Legendary kissing scenes to give an extra feel to the series they bring (!), so that gives an edge to some 'forced fish kissing scenes'.

I do see the popularity for gen 4 is still low considering the recent release of the first episode and promotional material. I like the small format they create to get to know the generation and form up potential couples (last season gave ThomasKong, KengNamping and TleFirstOne).

While for now they say content will differ from last season, so far from the trailer and first episode, it remains largely the same with a fotoshoot , acting and singing task (and some fun episode and conclusion episode as well, so 5/6 episode content will be quite the same I guess).

One wonders if and how they do have some built-in mechanics at play to already promote certain couples that will form. Some participants already are working with a gen other partner for projects (JJ, Kim and Ohm) so it remains open if they are just doing a gen 3 promotional project, but choosing a different couple partner for future works. Since this is always sensitive, it does give a risk, but I hope they give us again around 2 - 3 couples. As last season, another contestant will be likely dropped in between.
On Addicted Heroin (Uncut Ver.) Oct 8, 2024
What a messy ride it has been. I could not watch every scene in the last episode either. It was just getting worse plot wise for the main couple, and we have some weird planning for the side couple that also made no sense to me plotwise.

You have a main ip to use, you can do a lot with it and respect the main story and do just about anything, to make this. I just don't understand it... We have so many productions, so many ip's and we get for the most part half assed scripts that destroy a story, actors included, and I just don't get it.

Only small piece of light was the side couple had more potential (if played right) than the one from 'Stay with me' imo. I would still be like, let them have a chance for another project perhaps as a side couple. It could still work out. Main couple was imo badly casted for their roles (nothing against the actors personal, just didn't see it work out from the beginning).

Still not sure a special episode and second season is coming or not tho? Saw the director being bumped about the negative feedback obstructing a S2, and here we have the final episode saying it will come... Doubt it tho

Edit: if you look on who worked on it - no direct hate to them - but they overvalued their potential in taking on a project like this. Just don't do it...

To bring some lore to the series adaptation. In the books ´Only´ always had a crush on ´Poppy`, this also ultimately brings a love confession of sorts later on where he lets ´Poppy´ know this much later on, but has since given up seeing ´Poppy´and ´Hero´ being close. I think he is probably the fist one to know or somehow understand the kind of relationship they will have.

It is only with them being adults that a clear romance starts to develop between ´Only´ and ´Tiger´. The basis for this actually stems from the sportfestival arc we just have seen the conclusion to - not with a kiss tho- as ´Only´was impressed by the sheer will and dedication ´Tiger´ had to complete the running. ´Only´ would have just inspired to give up or not do his best, but seeing the dedication and will of ´Tiger´, he gets inspired to do his best. This moment will bring about later for ´Only´ to go after ´Tiger´ in a romantic kind of interest in their own substory that was added later on as a sort of addendum I suppose, but was kinda fun and goofy given their dynamics.

But as always S1 is getting filmed or adapted, but I doubt we will get a S2 to get some more of the rest of the unfilmed stories.

Just my opinion, but it seems the roles they portray are different in this adaptation :p, so still undecided how they are gonna make this work. August doesn't really give bad ass vibes, Mac seems too innocent.

The problem is that the original version was legendary in banning bl from China (it was that popular at the time), and the remake just last year was such a success with all the censorship, that it makes it impossible to bring a new adaptation on par with the latter ones.

With the Thai adaptation being 10 episodes long, it is clear from the first episode they kinda rush in the first stages, which are most important for character building and tension between the main leads.
