i went back to ep1 and rewatched the first 20 mins and everything finally makes sense!! he said "oh it's you"…
That would make so much more sense than the director just trying to stretch this scene out for no reason. I remember I was ranting at the TV screen during these first few scenes, because she seemed to take her sweet time getting away and the DevilGod didn't do anything...
I really liked the last two episodes even though the script-writers are still leaving us in the dark as to how it all hangs together and where this will be going. I still don't know what the importance of the 2nd orphan girl (Hu PanPan) is, but we'll probably find out soon. The writers seem to have a certain preference for telling stories in reverse. Also, not much hypnotism going on in the last few episodes... I get it why Lu FengPing is so disappointed with Luo Fei, he's just not what he would expect from a friend. Luo Fei wants friendship and expects to be trusted, but he doesn't do anything that would justify this. Despite having promised to help in exchange for LFP's collaboration on the case, he never trusted him with that clue and at the slightest sign of trouble he treats LFP again as a policeman would a suspect. The case for arresting LFP on the basis of two hairs (which he found during an illegal search of his home) would never hold up in real life. It very much looks like this was all a set-up to get a few police witnesses for LFP's "death in a fire". Now a 3-day wait until it continues - that's going to be difficult.
Original Devil God with his crazy logic and brainwashing extremism...he is actually from the same generation as…
The fact that good cannot exist without evil is a concept that is common in many religions around the world. In ancient Egypt Osiris represented order whereas his brother Seth represented chaos, but without chaos/destruction there cannot be any new creation. In India Shiva can both destroy and create worlds. In Europe all the ancient gods (both Germanic or Celtic) were all grey because people understood that good an evil live side-by-side. For instance the Celtic Morrigan was the Goddess of both love and war. It is only with the arrival of Christianity in the West that this eternal truth was forgotten.
I just hope they didn't invent a love triangle where there was none before... the presence of of Riley Wang (in…
Neither do I and I get very annoyed when the script-writers feel the need to add them everywhere. In most of the novels that I have read from this author there aren't any triangles. It's one of the reasons why I like her.
I like it a lot, but tastes are different, so it really depends what kind of drama you're looking for... The acting is good, there are a lot of atmospheric shots that give the drama an artistic feeling. There's mystery that is only unravelled slowly and quite a few bizarre murders. So far there is no romance (and I don't think there will be any...) and the friendship between the leads is sometimes sweet and sometimes very conflicted. The subs on most viewing options are a hilarious machine translation that takes some getting used to. The editing is occasionally a bit confusing. For me it is definitely worth watching, but just give it a try to see if it fits your taste.
Finally! I'm hoping storyline of the drama stays true to the novel. The slowburn is what i absolutely love about…

The transition from ep. 12 to ep 13 was a bit strange... I thought that I had missed something because suddenly everyone was somewhere else, investigating cases/people that I couldn't even remember... It then became apparent that they were trying to tell the story in reverse and, I presume, also made quite a few cuts of scenes that would have helped with a better understanding. Fortunately, by the end of the episode most of the confusion was resolved, leaving just enough mystery to keep the story interesting.
That's what I meant. To my knowledge for the time being there is only the Chinese version. I've started editing the MTL version that I've done for myself while reading, but this is not going to be fast. There are only 10 chapters and an epilogue, but those chapters are surprisingly long!
Oh, I like your Reichenbach Falls idea! I haven't watched this far yet. Since there is a 5-day gap in the airing…
Yes, I will definitely keep watching. I'd like to see how much of the original story they've kept. I think it's mainly the people who were expecting a nice bromance who will be disappointed, because I don't think it was that kind of novel. It's the problem that I see with quite a few dramas, they try to sell them by creating an expectation which then will not be fulfilled and then people are disappointed.
when I first watched the trailer, the teaser have gaven me some Sherlock vibes and now I believe they did their…
Oh, I like your Reichenbach Falls idea! I haven't watched this far yet. Since there is a 5-day gap in the airing schedule I'm trying to watch one episode per day and yesterday I got sucked into the novel, so didn't watch any. Yes, the "old box" is a funny one, but my preferred wrong translation is "staring" which they use for surveillance. It cracks me up every time I see it.
tbh this show is not what I've expected, not a crime show that i really wished to see and...smth is off about…
From what I've read so far, the characters in the book are quite different (for instance, there is no Lu Feng Ping, but it's Ling MingDing who is working with Luo Fei) and the whole story starts out quite differently. If it weren't for the "zombie" case and the hypnotism I couldn't even be sure it's the same story. I think some of the incoherences may come from the fact that the script-writers have deviated too much from the original story in some parts so the rest no longer seems to fit.
Watched ep. 12 last night and the subs are still as hilarious as before. For me it's ok, once I figured out who is the box, the flat wind or the kitten, it's just like any other name. At lease the subs were synchronised with the audio.
Hm...tell me any xianxia that doesn't have annoying immortal! Always...always...there must always be bad immortals…
Probably inspired by the real world. Just look at some of the religious fanatics around the world, a lot of them aren't very nice people nor do they have the insight that you would expect an "enlightened" person to have.
Maybe I wanted more friendship than this More partnership than thismore fights and pain, similar to pledge of…
The detective is an introvert and after episode 10 he is a very troubled introvert, but he isn't really cold. Otherwise he wouldn't run after Lu FengPing the way he does in ep. 12. I think their "relationship" is currently in the classic "breakup/separation" phase of a C-drama and they are both suffering each in their own way. I don't know where you've seen boring bits, I quite like the atmospheric shots with nothing much happening. It's not a US-style crime drama where something new is happening every 2 minutes, but I like that.

Currently watching TTEOTM and Desire Catcher.
