The uploaded photos above spoiled it for me, but I'm not complaining xD Red is definitely my man's color! HE LOOKS…
He's a Taurus, so it is kind of natural. If I had my way he would be contractually obliged to only ever wear red/burgundy/maroon in historicals and xianxia.
It's not in all the scenes and there are some scenes when the Empress Dowager has just the same red eyes. I think some of the actors were probably allergic to the make-up they used.

I'm probably way older than you... For me it's a life-long passion. So who knows, there may be a moment in your life when you pick it up again. This novel is really delightful to read. I did a machine translation and am now editing it while reading. It keeps the brain-cells from dying π€£
I love the main male and female lead very much but cannot help it also looking into side character Yun Han. I…
Hmmh, I'm slowly reading the novel and he was just introduced two chapters ago... I cannot say that he is a very nice person there. Rather a bit full of himself and manipulative. No connection with the CP whatsoever, on the contrary: CP perceived him as a love-rival and had him arrested in a bout of jealousy. It'll be interesting to see how his story progresses...
I have to say that I really didn't like this cliff-hanger ending, especially since nobody seems to know if and when there will be the 2nd part. The "ending" confirms, however, my gut feeling about Lord Han, so not too surprise to see he really is a treacherous lying b*stard who will to anything to get rid of the competition on his way to the throne.
I watched the RR and the Romance of a twin flowers in the same time ( dropped after ep.19, no logic , infantile…
Comparing is human...we all do it! Just some people may not be ready to admit it. π
There are many good actresses around and it's not always those that are hyped the most. I first saw + liked Meng ZiYi in Ever Night. It was a good role! The FL in Twin Flower wasn't bad either, but the whole premise for the drama just had no logic (if she was such an independent, clever "modern" woman, why stay with an abusive a'hole of a husband?). Dropped it after the 1st episode.
While I'm overall enjoying this drama, I have to say that the horses that they used for this look truly terrible. It's rather abusive to make such emaciated creatures carry around people. Whenever there's a close-up, their eyes look dead. It's sad to see the life of horses in c-dramaland still hasn't improved much.
They made quite a few changes, but both versions can stand on their own. The drama version has taken a lot of inspiration from small details in the novel to preserve the overall character and it is definitely a very good adaptation. ML's poison tongue is not quite as poisonous as in the novel.

This is a supposedly romantic trope even in modern dramas, but I find it rather lame and I really hate it!
